Good upgrade for HP EX470/EX475 WHS

Pros: By default, the HP MediaSmart Server (EX470/EX475) includes just 512Mb of DDR2-667 memory @ 5-5-5 timings. Out of the box, the HP requires ~550Mb memory and performance suffers as a result.

I replaced the HP's single stick of 512Mb DDR2 with this 2Gb G.Skill DDR2-667. It runs at 4-4-4 timings on the HP. Performance is noticeably improved.

Cons: Don't expect "night and day" improvement. The HP still has a relatively slow AMD Sempron CPU running at 1.8GHz.

Perfect for my HP MediaSmart Server

Pros: I purchased this for my HP MediaSmart Server and it works great! I am not sure how much of a boost in perfoemance I got since this was the first mod i made to the Server, as far as I know it works great!

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: This is a little bit of a bear to install in the HP MediaSmart Server. Prepare yourself for a little challenge, especially if you strip one of those little screws that hold it all together.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: G.Skill is a solid RAM manufacturer and I've never had a problem with them at all. Will continue to buy their products as long as I build.

Great upgrade for HP EX47x MediaSmart WHS

Pros: 4-4-4-12 latency was the biggest reason I chose this brand. Quality packaging/heat spreader and great reviews from others added to the decision.

Cons: It's been cheaper, but not by much...

Other Thoughts: A must have upgrade for an HP Ex47x MediaSmart home server. I also replaced the Sempron CPU with an Athlon 64, but honestly I saw a bigger difference with the memory - at least with what I'm doing right now (will be serving media as soon as I figure it out).
