Great Price/Performance
- Pros: High capacity, low latency, LOW VOLTAGE. Very good overclocker. I replaced my 2GB DDR3 1600 kit with this new G.Skill kit and the G.Skill is running at the same speed and timings with lower voltage than my other kit. I paid top dollar for that other kit, so I'm extremely happy with what these G.Skills can do.
I've tried several different speed/timings combinations and this memory is very forgiving. I haven't failed to POST once. A great kit for overclockers and tuners.
- Cons: My motherboard doesn't properly read the XMP profile. You will probably have to manually set the speed and timings if you want it to run at advertised timings.
- Other Thoughts: Not only am I running this kit with higher than advertised speed, I also have tighter timings than they advertised. 100% stable.
This kit doesn't appear to scale with high voltage. Mine stopped scaling at around 1.7V. That hasn't proven to be a problem though, as it runs very fast with that low voltage. Much better than I thought it would be.
Works well
- Pros: Nice heat spreaders, attractive packaging. Can handle much higher voltage than it's rated for, and can handle the increased speed/timings to match. I read somewhere this RAM uses Micron chips...
- Cons: Be careful what board you use it with. Cannot achieve advertised timings on an Intel DP45SG. Best I can pull off is 1333-8-8-8-18 @ 8GB. DP45SG does not appear to support XMP which is where this RAM stores its aggressive advertised settings. If I choose the default SPD, the timings set to 9-9-9-24.
- Other Thoughts: G. Skill customer support has been helpful but they can only help me so far, because it seems to be partially the board's fault. G. Skill customer service has always been helpful and because of this I made my last three RAM purchases from them for over $500 worth of RAM. G. Skill also uses good chips despite their aggressive pricing.
