5 out of 5 eggsWorks well with T61p Thinkpad

Pros: Packaged sensibly and legibly.

Cons: Cost. Kind of surprised this was still $200. Wow.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to take my Lenovo Thinkpad T61 to 8GB of memory. The official story is that this machine will only accept 4GB, and for years I believed it. Then I happened across the Lenovo forums and posters who had successfully installed 8GB with no trouble. So I tried it with this pair and it is working without a hitch.

The 4GB pair it replaced is a 5 year old GSkill kit which has worked perfectly and will be kept as a backup plan.

5 out of 5 eggsG Skill 8GB & Dell XPS M1730

Pros: Very compatible with my Dell XPS M1730 with the latest A11 Bios.

Cons: Price is a bit high for this older memory.

Other Thoughts: Just wish I had started here first in my search. Have searched for a long time for this...

5 out of 5 eggsRevived my old laptop

Pros: Fits perfectly.
Works perfectly.
Plastic packaging was NOT vacuum welded together - That means EASY TO OPEN, easy to re-close & store old memory. (This gets an egg all by itself... I HATE those plastic containers you have to slice / rip / chain-saw open!)

Cons: Did not install itself.
Did not come with scantily clad women and $10,000,000.
Did not mow my lawn.

Seriously - no cons so far.

Other Thoughts: For those who searched for this answer as I did:

Works great in ACER ASPIRE 5536 laptop. Posts up in BIOS. It is my understanding that 8gb is max this laptop can handle.

You need to be running Win7 (not the basic version) to take advantage of it, though.

Also upgraded to Win7 x64 Ultimate & 500gb hard drive. All no problem on this laptop.

As always - ultra quick delivery by NewEgg!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with SUPERMICRO MBD-X7SPA-H-O

Pros: Works with the SUPERMICRO MBD-X7SPA-H-O D510 motherboard even though the documented max says 4GB.

Cons: None at the moment!

Other Thoughts: A lot of people bought the Supermicro MBD-X7SPA-H-O (D510) motherboard and missed the documented max of 4GB. Other people have found that the D525 variation would work with 8GB, so I gave mine a try also and it works with 8GB.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as expected

Pros: Good quality as always.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Installed in a Dell D630 that I acquired. The top-side DIMM had to be re-seated due to a known issue with the laptop. Otherwise, memory recognized and made the machine usable again.

5 out of 5 eggsNever lets me down

Pros: Great G.SKILL reputation. Dual channel rocks. Makes running a large virtual machine easy.

Cons: Still WAY more expensive than DDR3. I guess it's the extra speed required in the silicon.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed memtest

Pros: Other than the obvious, there aren't any. It isn't 4-4-4-12, and isn't really all that special other than being from a 'reputable' brand.

Cons: Failed memtest on the first pass on tests 4 and 7, with over 200 errors per pass. Completely unaceptable. When G-Skill states that their memory is "100% tested", they are clearly smoking something.

Unhappy with the fact that this item's price just went up twenty dollars because I had to RMA a defective-on-arrival item. This is especially true since it is already a very pricy item.

Other Thoughts: I will be questioning my purchase of G-Skill memory in the future. The best indicator of future behaviour is past behaviour, and this is pretty unacceptable to get highly defective memory that is "100% tested".

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. It is odd the memory contains errors, please test one module at a time to see which is causing a problem. Also, check to make sure you have the latest BIOS for the laptop. A memory compatibility update may solve this issue.

All G.Skill memory modules are fully tested in-house to insure quality control. Unfortunately once the memory leaves factory, it can be difficult to control handling, so defective cases can still happen. It is the same for any memory manufacturer, unfortunately it is just the nature of DRAM products. If you look at reviews, we surely have the highest testing standards, but even so, we can not prevent DOA cases.

For RMAs, you can send them USPS First Class w/ Delivery Confirmation. This is the most cost effective method, it should cost around $3-4. For any further questions or issues, please feel free to contact us directly.

Thank you
