Highly Recommend! - GREAT for netbooks
- Pros: I decided to buy this after purchasing an MSI Wind, and I wanted to throw an upgrade into it which not only increased performance, but battery life as well. And this thing did exactly that.
This thing is a great bang for the buck, and I recommend it for someone looking to get a nice cost effective SSD solution for their netbook, or get 2 of these in a RAID 0 for some solid performance. After installing into my MSI Wind, I gained about another half hour of battery life, the boot times cut by 2/3 easily, shutdown times about the same.
- Cons: None!, buying another one :)
- Other Thoughts: To those who aren't clear as to what the USB port is for on the SSD, its basically built in for accessing content when not installed internally, it acts as an external drive when plugged in that way.
How I used it: 1.) Did a fresh install of Windows XP Professional on my MSI Wind on original 120gb HD.
2.) Installed all my programs, adjusted settings, made configurations and system changes which were necessary.
3.) Remove original laptop drive when finished, and plug into another desktop/laptop using a SATA to USB connector.
4.) Plug GSkill SSD into same desktop/laptop using the built in USB port on drive.
5.) Using Acronis True Image, clone the disks with the original 120gb HD as the source drive, and the 64gb SSD as the destination drive.
6.) When completed, install SSD back into laptop, and boot.
This is just one example of its use, which I particularly found useful. :)
NICE UPGRADE
- Pros: Averaging 119 Mb/S read, with max read 134 Mb/S, 0.2 ms access time on HD Tune in Vista x64.
Couldn't benchmark the write because the drive isn't emty... I've got it as an OS Drive for G50VT-X2. Speeded up OS and Software load times. Outperforms any other drives and raids in SiSoft Sandra Benchmarks.
- Cons: Not really a con, Not as fast as I was imagining it, but it is still very very fast.
Hopefully next windows will be optimized for ssd.
- Other Thoughts: Make sure to disable search indexing, system restore,
Enable write cashing and enhanced performance in device manager / disk drive / gskill, or otherwise performance will be dropping to very low Mb/s read (Had as low as 0.1 Mb/s read with write cashe disabled)

Nice Drive
- Pros: Excellent Drive, Fast on the read, not as fast on the write. I have not played around with the pages, or caching. I guess it has setting that are different per O/S. I haven't messed with it because it works very well. Oh, the better battery life is outstanding. Went from 2.5 hours(with old sata drive) to 5+ hours with SSD. Priceless...
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: I would recommend this drive for rough and rugged areas, and travels.
Stuttering
- Pros: It's fast, it's big, and it's cheap.
- Cons: The first month was great, but now I have issues with the drive stuttering. The computer will just pause for a second or so then continue. This problem is especially bad if something is being copied onto the drive while I'm doing something else.
- Other Thoughts: I'm running Windows 7 RC, and in one of the other ratings G.SKILL said in a "Manufacturer Response" that the stuttering issue "is a common issue with older operating systems. Most issues will be resolved with Windows 7." This is not the case. I have the stuttering issue and I'm running Windows 7.
