Great memory

Works great with i7-964 (extreme) at full speed on Linux. We work them hard and this holds up well.

5 out of 5 eggsDone everything I've asked it to

Pros: Triple Channel
1600mhz
Stylish heat sink/spreader

Cons: None on the top of my head.

Other Thoughts: Bought this for a build that cannot use it to its maximum potential but the price just drug me in. My mobo only supports dual channel at a maximum and my processor has a memory bandwidth of 1333mhz, but it can done everything I have asked it to so far so 5 eggs from me.

5 out of 5 eggs2 Kits Work Great Together

Pros: Great memory, works right away at Socket 1366 default speed of DDR3-1333, and when you select "XMP" setting in BIOS then it runs at DDR3-1600 speed, no problem. This is my second 3x2GB kit; added it to existing one-year-old 3x2GB kit (exact same model) and they work together, no problem. Total system memory now 12GB. This amount of memory is overkill unless you are running several (or many?) programs at once that require lots of RAM or doing some intense heavy-duty photo or video editing. But, hey, having all six memory slots filled with shiny red RAM modules just feels good! Performance at default speed is excellent so no need to invoke XMP (extreme memory profile) in BIOS unless you have some extreme need.

Cons: The usual clear plastic packaging which is attractive to look at but difficult to open. Grab your scissors or box knife!

Other Thoughts: After installing new RAM, Windows showed 12GB installed but only "4.99GB Usable". This was because I had previously altered default settings for boot-up in MSCONFIG window of Windows 7. To correct this, needed to change setting in MSCONFIG window and restart computer (Click on Windows Start logo/type msconfig/select msconfig.exe in results above where you typed/click on BOOT tab in msconfig window/click on Advanced Options/un-check the boxes for "Number of processors" and "Maximum memory"/click OK at bottom of window/then restart the computer. After restarting, Windows shows Installed memory: 12Gb and nothing about a smaller amount of "usable memory". Problem solved. And it wasn't the memory at fault here, it was the settings I had imposed on the MSCONFIG Boot tab. Re: performance using XMP-enabled DDR3-1600 speed vs. "default" DDR3-1333, a couple of video conversion tests on huge files completed a few seconds faster, but in actual use no discernible difference even in 3D games.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Another great product from G-Skill

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I bought the 3 x 1 package of this ram when the core i7s first came out in November of '08 and that ram is still working excellent. I figured, why not buy 6 more gigz of the same stuff for under $40?

5 out of 5 eggsJust awesome

Pros: Have never had an instant of trouble with these - just bought my second set (12gb now - 2 x 6 gb). Once you configure your bios settings, they run perfectly at 1600 Mhz. No drama at all - like owning a Honda. Totally stable.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Fantastic price now - totally worth the money.

5 out of 5 eggsHow to get DDR3-1600 Speed

Pros: See Other Thoughts below for Speed setting.

Have 2 years perfect performance from this set of RAM!

Way cheaper now than when I bought it.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: Please ignore reviews that say this memory "doesn't run at advertised speed" or similar complaint. Here's the deal: Intel Socket 1366 (X58) has default memory settings of 1066 or 1333. Faster memory such as this G.Skill set will run at the default 1333 speed UNTIL you go into the BIOS setup screen of your motherboard and find the memory setting page where you enable "XMP" (extreme memory profile). Once enabled, your G.Skill or any other fast RAM will run at its advertised speed. Let me repeat - you must enable XMP in motherboard BIOS to get the advertised of 1600 or greater. Are we clear now?

2 out of 5 eggsDid not Work

Pros: None, due to the fact that they arrived broken.

Cons: Pluged them into my PC and windows kept crashing, turns out the problem was not one card, but all 3 cards were a little screwy, so no offence to Gskill they have great RAM but I am returning these.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGood Memory, Good Price

Pros: I bought it originally when it was $150 and bought another set recently with the HUGE price drop. I didn't have any issues getting the 12gb to register but couldn't get it to run 1600 and OC my i7-940 without it dropping 4gb of the 12gb. Read a bunch of the reviews here and got my answer from the gskill support, I was manually setting all my timings and then saw the option of running in X.M.P. and it auto set everything to the right timings with no issues at, now everything runs great!! After the fix definitly worth the 5 stars

Cons: none thus far, first set has lasted me over a year and now the full 12gb is running great
