AMD Phenom II compatible
- Pros: These are compatible with MSI 790FX-GD70 and a Phenom II X2 550 processor. They run smooth and fast. The heat spreaders are not that big...at least not imho. To save some other body the hair pulling, I need to say these default to 1333 which I expected via the many reviews. I understand it is a safe default setting that you can start your computer and set up the higher settings without jacking your computer right off the bat. Anyway, after setting the speed via the (I think) fsb/mem ratio. It worked fine..but the timings were still at default safe(slow) setting. I set them to the settings on the package - 7-7-7-24. There are a lot more settings in there than just these 4... I left the rest auto...THAT DOES NOT WORK. It rebooted and gave me a checksum data error and it reset the bios to default. So after searching the internet I found the G.Skill forum which one guy commented that he set the memory to the EXACT settings under the xmp profile which is under the memory ez(?) setting.
- Cons: a little bit of hair-pulling at first...and gnashing of the teeth. :) Trying to figure out the correct settings for the memory. I incorrectly assumed that the xmp profile settings were just for Intel because everywhere I have read seems to indicate that, but the xmp profile seems to work for the memory regardless of the processor being used. If I had known that up front, it would have been faster setup. Oh, the user guide that comes with it is very general...such as this is a motherboard that you have bought and these are the pretty little parts and not much more. OOhh, one more thing that confused me at first, maybe because my last build was an AthlonXP board, but this one had manual settings for memory for slot 1 or slot 2 or both. If you select both, which if you have 2 you will want to do, you will need to input the settings for both slots. The settings for second one are directly below the settings for the first one. I assume mine only listed 2 slots because I had 2 memory sticks.
- Other Thoughts: The moderators on the forum on the site seem to be guessing and giving vague answers, but using the EXACT settings as listed under the xmp profile (leave any not listed as "auto" and it works just great.
Very nice
- Pros: Works as advertised. No problems upon boot up. Bios automatically set the speed to 1333MHz with 9-9-9-24 timing, so in order to run at 1600MHz, use the XMP Profile settings in BIOS and your memory will run OC at 7-7-7-24 at 1.6V. Very nice heatsink, runs cool... .why pay more for Dominator. All 4 gigs are showing which is great. May get 2 more soon but have to figure out how to fit one stick in the first slot as the CPU cooler heatsink fan (Zalman CSPN10X) is right above the first slot. Modules without the tall heatsink will fit perfectly however.
- Cons: None so far.
- Other Thoughts: Vista x64, Win 7 x64

Phenom II X4 Compatible
- Pros: I installed G.SKILL Ripjaws into my MSI NF980-G65 running at DDR3 1600 ONLY after manually entering the timings from the XMP profile and setting the appropriate ratio. Otherwise, it was a 'plug-n-play' experience.
- Cons: I am unable to run them at the advertised CL 7. So, instead of 7-7-7-24, they work at 8-7-7-24 @1.6v. Hopefully this may be resolved with a future motherboard bios tweak.
- Other Thoughts: I realize DDR3 1333 is the rated official speed of the Phenom II X4 cpu. However, I took the chance that I might get CL7 speed at DDR3 1600 with the newer C3 revision or stepping of this 955 cpu. Some are running at CL7 on very select motherboard based on the 790FX chipset. I am hopeful this may extend eventually to my board based on the Nvidia NF980a chipset.
great and stable
- Pros: stable
no memtest errors
- Cons: nothing
- Other Thoughts: currently at cl9 but havent gotten around to forcing them to the 7cl
win 7 64bit antec 1200 i7 860 stock idle (20-30c) load (50-60c) w/ mega shadow & Shin-Etsu X23 GIGABYTE GA-P55-UD6 G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR3 1600 @ 9cl evga gts 250 PC Power and Cooling 750W
Great buy!
- Pros: - Ran at advertised timings with no fuss, even when my Core i7 860 was overclocked to 4.2GHz. While they come with slower default timings for safety and/or spec reasons, they do have an XMP profile with the advertised timings.
- Great performance for the price.
- Endorsed by EVGA for use with my E657 motherboard.
- Heat spreaders have low enough profile to not interfere with my Noctua NH-U12P CPU cooler.
- Cons: - I wish they were 4GB sticks because I'm afraid of potential overclocking instability that may result if I buy another pair of 2GB sticks. I feel like buying only 4GB of RAM is the only place in which I potentially skimped on my new system.
- Other Thoughts: - Bought these because they were on EVGA's list of supported RAM for my motherboard, combined with the price, performance and reviews.
- I would like to know whether it is safe, recommended and/or necessary to run these at 1.65V when overclocking, as many guides say to do so.
