5 out of 5 eggsum...it's RAM

Pros: It does RAM things really well? It looks cool? Yeah, I'd recommend it. Good price point.

Cons: it's not free

Other Thoughts: I'm sure I could run memory tests, benchmarks, etc etc but really...who has the time? It's RAM, it does what it's supposed to do.

2 out of 5 eggsOne Failure

Pros: Three Ripjaws memory chips worked great for a number of years.

Cons: The one memory stick separated the heat sync from the memory chips.

Other Thoughts: Don't know why one failed . Possible factory manufacturer problem

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

Glad to hear the memory has been working well in your system. This is a high performance memory kit that can work great for any purpose. Whether the system is built for gaming, video streaming, or graphics editing, this RAM can handle it all. If the heat spreader is loose on one of the modules, you can squeeze both ends together to see if it can stay, or you can remove it and use the RAM without it. The memory runs very cool so it can be just fine. All G.Skill memory kits are backed by a manufacturer lifetime warranty, so you are more than free to send them in for new replacements. Visit the G.Skill website for complete RMA procedure. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.

5 out of 5 eggsG.Skill Ripjaws 4GB DDR3

Pros: Price
Color
DDR3

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Great memory,. Have never had issues with GSkill memory. Put it in an AM1 build to replace bad adata memory (owned less than 6 months) and it worked immediately. Easy to install and instantly recognized in BIOS

5 out of 5 eggsRipjaws Drop

Pros: Fast. Affordable. Looks spiffy. Stays cool. Added heat sync to provide lower temps.

Cons: No cons that I can think of... I don't think I got conned into buying this award winning memory...

Other Thoughts: Gained 2x speed boost on 3D graphics benchmark using Passmark. The only thing that changed hardware-wise was the addition of this second dual channel memory stick to enable dual channel. It was very delightful to see the over 2x speed boost when adding the new stick of memory.

Speed / performance mark went from 400.1 to 886.3 marks. Very impressive. Using a Gigabyte MA-f2a78m-d3h mobo. This is just stock speed without any overclocking.

2 out of 5 eggsworked for a bit

Pros: worked good for a few weeks

Cons: clock speeds were 11 instead of 9..

stopped working, bsod.. my monitor would lose display and reconnect to dvi straight to blue screen.

i have to pay return shipping

Other Thoughts: i thought it was my graphics dying which i bought used and cannot return. but i swapped in my old one and same problem. phew. i ran memtest86 off a CD and it failed after 1 pass. threw in a couple 1gig sticks i have that still work along with the newer graphics card and it went 3 passes perfectly and i am still on it writing this review when usually it would have bsod'd within an hour or two. i know you should do about 6 passes on memtest but i have faith it would have bsod'd by then if anything else was bad besides ram. will return.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

We can help with this issue. The clock timings were CL11 because that is the standard AUTO default boot up value. In order to use the RAM at the rated specifications, it is necessary to enable the XMP/DOCP memory profile, or manually input the basic DRAM values. Once that is complete, the system will be fast and stable. Without adjusting for proper values, errors can occur and cause the RAM to corrupt over time. Since the modules may be defective now, send them in for RMA exchange and a replacement should work much better with the correct changes in BIOS. Please visit the G.Skill website for complete RMA procedure.

1 out of 5 eggsDefective

Pros: Older memory, cheap price

Cons: Did not work. I bought this same model memory in 2014. 3 4gb sticks for 12gb ram. Wanted to finally add the final 4gb so came back to newegg (been pretty much gone ever since) to get the exact memory. PC wouldn't boot. Went through a myriad of cmos clearing, battery draining, etc. All memory worked fine even when tested as single sticks, but any equation that involved the new stick would result in failing to boot.

Other Thoughts: Haven't been to newegg in a while and was reminded why. Faulty memory sent to me = I have to pay return shipping? and you know what newegg's auto print "discounted" price was for ONE stick of memory? 10 bucks! Yeah, this is why it's been so long. A certain other large website (which is sooo lame newegg that u won't allow me to use their name in this review) that begins with an A and ends with an N? returns = free if it's defective. That's how it should be

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you had such issues. You mentioned all memory modules worked fine when tested individually, so the new module may not be defective. It may be a compatibility issue with the original RAM. Please contact the G.Skill technical support team directly for assistance. We will make sure you have 16GB of RAM working well in your computer.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent and Reliable RAM

Pros: DDR3 1600, which has been a standard for a while it seems.
The appearance is pretty nice. I love the design.
Extremely reliable; I bought one stick four years ago, and ran a gaming PC until last year when I bought ANOTHER stick finally, and they both work absolutely amazing.
I have NEVER had a problem with this RAM personally. I put it in, tested it, and it has worked since, with no issues at all.

Cons: The only con I have for this is that the price has gone up since I first built my computer.
There have been no cons other than that for me.

Other Thoughts: I have two of these sticks now, with an AMD Phenom II in an ASUS M4N75TD motherboard, and a GTX 550 Ti card, and it has reliably run everything I've thrown at it since it's incarnation with a GeForce 9500 GT card.
The ONLY complaint I think I could have is that I had to buy another stick because games started to consume more memory than I wanted them to.
I regret nothing. I'd buy two more if I could afford it.
