4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Price
No fuss installation - just plug in and go
Build quality seems to be good

Cons: Heatsinks are a little large, but do not interfere with a 212 Evo on an Asus Z97-A board.

My only gripe is that I wish the description would be more clear about XMP. I did not know until after I bought it that this model cannot be automatically adjusted using the Asus automatic overclocking suite. There is a different model number for that.

Other Thoughts: If I had known about the difference, I would have purchased the model that is XMP enabled. Still, this is not a big deal. This RAM is cheap and it works fine with no fuss, which is what is important to me.

While installing the RAM along with a Hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler, I mistakenly tweaked the stick nearest the CPU in its socket by pushing the top of the stick and flexing it. I thought I might have damaged it, but nope, everything POSTed just fine :D To me, something of an amateur, this indicates good build quality.

Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear you got the RAM at a good price. This is one of the most popular memory kits on NewEgg as you get gaming performance and processing power at a low price. DDR3-1600 is a perfect fit for any of the latest CPUs, and 8GB is a good amount for multi-tasking, gaming, video streaming, and more. The heat spreaders are taller than standard, but they will clear any large aftermarket CPU cooler. So whether you plan to use two or four modules in your build, you can expect plenty of clearance. With regards to the XMP Profile, they are all the same. Any RAM better than DDR3-1333 CL9 will have a built in XMP Profile. To enable the profile, the user must enable the feature in BIOS so the motherboard can automatically detect and configure settings. The automatic overclocking suite is designed to overclock all frequencies including the CPU; we do not recommend using that to configure the RAM. There is not another model of RAM designed for that, it is not recommended by memory manufacturers. Should you need help with BIOS/EFI configuration, let us know and we will be glad to help.

Thank you

1 out of 5 eggsBe careful! Compatibility issue

Pros: I don't know for this product.
But 4GBRL I purchased 5 years ago, was wonderful

Cons: Worst Compatibility I have ever experienced.

My motherboard support 1600, but CPU support up to 1333 (Clarkdale).
This product does not work on my system. It even cannot run at 1333 speed, contrary to the conventional thought.
I contacted manufacturer, who told it to me.

I am running my system using 4 GBRL, but 8 GBRL is a different story.

Even though 4GBRL and 8GBRL have exactly same specification, they are not compatible.
If you are running old system such as Clarkdale or Sandy bridge, or etc., don't buy this product.
Motherboard specification fitted for 1600 does not work if CPU does not support 1333.
It cannot run at 1333 speed, but it did run at all.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

We will be glad to help with this issue. The latest DDR3 modules have a standard of DDR3-1600, meaning they must boot up at this value. Because your CPU does not support DDR3-1600, you are experiencing a compatibility issue. Five years ago the RAM standard was DDR3-1333, which is why the older RAM worked fine at DDR3-1333. To upgrade your system, purchase the G.Skill F3-10666CL9D-8GBNT and this model should work better. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Excellent speed, reliable memory. I will be buying again.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Be cautious when using with the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO CPU fan. This RAM is very tall, and can interfere with some wider fans. I bent the RAM in its channel, but no damage was done.

Pros: High quality, reliable memory

Cons: ***NONE***

Other Thoughts: Been using this particular memory for numerous PC builds now and it's never failed me. However, as with anything made by human hands, if it does happen to fail I know I can have it replaced with no problem :)

Pros: Cool heatsink design and colors

Cons: Quality Control

Other Thoughts: Bought G.Skill for the first time for a new build and one stick was bad.

Dear Customer

Glad to hear you like the red heat spreader design of the RipJaws series. It is one of the most popular memory kits on NewEgg ever. With 8GB of DDR3-1600, this is a perfect memory kit for any system builder. Whether the computer is for gaming or work, this RAM can handle it all. It is strange a module is not working properly, please send it in for RMA exchange and new replacement should work much better. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly. We will make sure the RAM is running at maximum performance in your computer.

Pros: Quality memory, great price

Cons: Except for being bigger, same specs as my previous memory but it won't run

Other Thoughts: I wanted to run 16 GB Ram, I'm currently at 4 GB

Biostar TH55B HD motherboard, about 4 yrs old....runs great with GSkill F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ 2GB x 2 DDR3 1600 is working fine with 4 GB total, (but only running at 1333.) AMI Bios IH55E-MHT

Running Windows 7 64 bit. Intel Core i3 530, Intel, 1156 chipset 650 watt PSU, AMD videocard

Just purchased G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL DDR3 -1600, 4X4 = 16 GB,from NewEgg. Board is rated for 16 GB. 4 Sticks Tried INSTALLING all 16 GB at once, but it hangs at the bios screen. i Tried just 8 in the 2 red A1 slots, same result. Tried the other 2 new ones, same result. MIxed, same again. Always boots right back into Windows 7 when I put the old 4 GB back in. Here is the memory guide from Biostar......
http://www.biostar-usa.com/app/en-us..._ID=466#memory

G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ DDR3 -1600 2X2 = 4 GB
G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL DDR3 - 1600, 4X4 = 16 GB

I I could get it to work, I'd give it 5 Eggs. It has all the same specs, you'd think it would / should. I sure hate to RMA this!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

We will be glad to help with this issue. The DDR3 standard has changed since the motherboard was released, so the current modules may have a problem with the older motherboard. Also, the CPU does not support DDR3-1600, which is why the system was running at DDR3-1333. For the H55 chipset, it is recommended to use the G.Skill F3-10666CL9D-8GBNT. This is the current model that is compatible to boost your system up to 16GB. Exchange for this plug and play kit, install them, and your system will be ready to go. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

5 out of 5 eggsFlawless memory

Pros: Quality design and manufacturing. I've owned other memory sticks with heat spreaders that felt as though they were simply going to break or fall off the DIMM using the necessary pressure inserting them in the motherboard. Not so with this product. Mainly, because the heat spreader design makes it completely unnecessary to apply pressure to anything but the DIMM itself. This would seem to be common sense when designing a product like this, but apparently it isn't always the case.

Initial installation in my MSI x79a-GD45 plus motherboard was problematic. Memtest reported multiple failures beginning with Test 3, and if I hadn't researched MSI's website for both that specific motherboard as well as MSI's forums, I would not have known it wasn't at all the fault of the G.SKILL ram, but that of the motherboard itself. A bios update eliminated this memory problem completely, and I've never had Memtest fail using the aforementioned motherboard or this ram in any of the three boards I currently have it installed in.

While I cannot say this ram is actually faster than other brands (G.SKILL is all I use for DDR3 now), I can safely say I'm completely satisfied with it's performance in the gaming systems I've installed it in. Games such as the entire Battlefield series save Hardline (I don't particularly care for that addition to the BF franchise), Shadow of Mordor, Metro 2033, Metro Last Light, The Witcher series, Crysis series... pretty much any and all AAA titles out there in the RPG, FPS, RTS, and 4X Strategy genres.

I read all the time, as I'm sure many of you do, how this game or that game will not work on someone's system. These claims made by people who swear it's 'not their system', because game X, Y, and Z run, just not game W. Well, if I can play ANY game I've ever installed including these games (pretty much any and every game on Steam or Origin) that people claim are broken, then it MUST be their system. I have over 1,000 games on Steam, over 50 on Origin, a few dozen on GoG, some on Desura, well, you get the picture. Quality products, used correctly and not abused (extreme overclocking can easily cause system instability, which is sometimes difficult to accept for some). This ram lightly overclocked has yet to give me any problems, but for the record, I run it stock speed 90% of the time, and currently it's stock speed, along with my Intel i7-3820 processor.

So basically, in the three gaming systems I have at home right now, my two sons and mine, we have zero issues and all have this ram installed. Of course when I upgrade around Christmas I'll still use G.SKILL, but it will be their DDR4 memory, of which I have little doubt it will be of the same high quality found here.

Cons: I have a Cooler Master Hyper 212 plus installed on all home gaming systems (or variants of... the EVO on one system) and I know on my system the heatsink just barely clears the rather high heat spreader on the ram in the first DIMM slot. Just something to keep in mind, though I doubt it will be an issue for most boards out there, unless those ram slots are even closer than those on my MSI board as mentioned above.

Other Thoughts: Always check the manufacturer's website of your motherboard for updated bios and/or drivers if and when having any issues with your system. Generally, I'd recommend NOT updating firmware UNLESS you're having an issue, and that issue is specifically addressed, and even then only as a last resort. It's far too easy to brick a system (even with the 'dual bios switch'). Personally, I've never fried a board updating the bios, but have seen people who THOUGHT they did, as well as people who actually have. Neither is an exciting, fun experience!

1 out of 5 eggsWouldn't recommend to anyone.

Pros: Its ram

Cons: Long story short me and roommate both got this kind of ram and both stopped working in under a month.
My roommate and I both built computers around the same time. We both got this kind of ram coincidentally, seeing how many good reviews it had. I built my computer and three weeks later one of the sticks of ram started causing infinite blue screen restart loops. A week after he built his the same exact thing happen to both sticks of his ram. Needless to say this was extremely frustrating for both of us. Please keep us in your prayers so that our returned ram will allow our poor, blind, deaf, gluten intolerant, children to feel the warm hum of our computers.

Other Thoughts: Maybe this is a fluke from a bad batch of ram...maybe.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We will be glad to help with this issue. This memory kit is above standard, so make sure to configure settings in BIOS/EFI. Without proper configuration, it is possible for the RAM to corrupt and fail over time. If the motherboard supports XMP/DOCP, and the CPU is capable of DDR3-1600, enable the memory profile and that will the system to detect and adjust all memory values automatically. When experiencing strange stability issues, test one module at a time to determine whether the issue is a stick a RAM. If so, feel free to send them in for RMA exchange and a new kit should work better. For all further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.
