5 out of 5 eggsGreat RAM newegg needs to update the picture

Pros: I have bought 2 kits of this one about a year ago and another about a week ago. They perform great and look great aswell. Nothing that seems out of the ordinary which for RAM is a good thing.

Cons: The second kit I received had a green PCB instead of black. Again not a big deal once they are in the slot you can hardly tell. And I don't mind the green PCB but I did buy this thinking they would be black.

5 out of 5 eggsbought some time ago

Pros: on 2011-11-10 i got theses 8GB sticks for $65

Cons: $25 more is too expensive. if one would need 32GB it would cost a whopping $360 and that is just too much.

Other Thoughts: if you're a power user i would suggest 16 or 32 GB's of RAM
especially if you want to run several Virtual Machines at the same time. always leaving 4-6GB's of wiggle room
for the Host OS. to save wear and tear on your hdd when downloading large files from the internet i would recommend
the ImDisk Toolkit 20140710 tool that allows you to put that new RAM to good use with a e.g. 2-8GB RamDisk where you proceed to download enormously large files to. sometimes you may also notice that download throughput will increase using this method since the write speed of RAM is exceedingly faster than any SSD or HDD currently available. very rare to hear of RAM failing at the same rate as an SSD though their uses are quite different.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid memory.

Pros: Works solid at 1866. I have not OC'd it beyond that due to minimal performance gained by doing such a thing.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: In 2009 I purchased memory from G.Skill and was very happy with it. I upgraded my mobo to an LGA 1155 last autumn and went with this memory. It's been running game after game and heavily multitasking applications without a single memory error.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid G-Skill Quality

Pros: Works as advertised. Got it on sale for $70.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: In 2007 I built my first computer and paid $300 for 2 1GB sticks of Corsair Dominator 1066 RAM. Everything was WAY more expensive then. I now have this installed in an ASUS Z87-Pro (V Edition) motherboard with an i5 4670K and it is able to run at 1866 with the processor overclocked to 4.4GHz. I bumped the voltage on this RAM from 1.5 to 1.52 to keep it stable but it handles that without breaking a sweat. I've bought dozens of G-Skill kits between building machines for work and upgrading home PCs and not a single one has ever been bad in any way. The oldest ones are 5 years+ and still chugging away like new!

5 out of 5 eggsG.Skill doesn't disapoint

Pros: Heat spreader is factory and it's not bad too look at (if you have a case that gives you a view). OCing with this memory has been great. The rig I have this in is not highly overclocked but it's not all stock settings either. Highly stable and reliable and if I feel if I really pushed it the memory could take it.

Cons: None that I have found

2 out of 5 eggsCheap "heatsinks"

Pros: Newegg refunded my money.

Cons: The "heatsinks" are essentially plastic stickers. I'm done with G Skill if this is the quality they are spewing these days.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you do not like the build quality of the Sniper series heat spreaders. This particular series is geared towards gaming and heavy usage, so voltages are low and the modules will remain cool to touch. If you prefer a heavy duty, thick metal heat spreader, please take a look at the Trident X series. The G.Skill Trident X series is for extreme overclocking and pushing limits, so it is designed to withstand extreme heat with it's much different heat spreader. Simply because the RAM does not have a bulky heat spreader does not mean it lacks quality. Each type has it's purpose and will be just as effective no matter the weight. Take a look at the reviews for the Sniper series, it is one of the most popular as it fits great for system builders, gamers, students, and much more. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsG.SKILL Sniper Series

Pros: Very Fast
Low Profile
Work as intended

Cons: Absolutely none

Other Thoughts: Will definitely do service with G.SKILL again as these sticks are cheap and good quality.

5 out of 5 eggsHave never bought another RAM brand, never will

Pros: Excellent build quality, heat spreader is tough and has a very wicked look to it.

XMP support. Was utterly trivial to take this RAM up to 1866MHz (as various other reviews have noted, this ram will only run at 1600 without an OC).

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Bought two kits, all four sticks worked absolutely perfectly right out of the box, and are still going strong a year later.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The quality I've come to expect from G-Skill. Plugs right in, no issues, OC at 1866 and stable.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Like noted in another review, you have to enable OC in your BIOS to have faster than 1600 speeds, but that's true with any memory over 1600.
