5 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review - Fantastic Memory

Pros: Updated Feb 2016: Replaced power supply and updated ASUS Bios and the memory works with standard voltage and 2133 settings in BIOS. I have since added 2 more sticks and am running 24gb in all four slots and stable - GSkill solid as a rock.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wanted to update my review because I do not think I gave G.Skill a fair review. I was able to get the memory running stable at 2133 on my FX8350. Even though the FX8350 memory controller only supports 1866, it is not unusual to run 2133 DDR3 at full speed with the FX processor. After testing my FX8350, I found the max I could OC was 4.1Ghz. Unusual for an FX8350 which is known to OC to as high as 5Ghz. I upped the voltage on the CPU, NB, and memory and set everything to auto except for the memory timings. I set the memory to 2133 with 13-13-13-35 timings and it runs stable. Since then I have dropped the speed to 1866 and timings to 10-11-10-30 as recommended by ASUS. Memory runs fine at 1866 and with lower timings the benchmarks are better than running at 2133.

Cons: Not really any cons, I should have checked the Asus website for DDR3 2133 memory compatibility.

Other Thoughts: UPDATE - Feb 2016
Replaced my power supply in January and updated BIOS and GSkill DDR3 is now running at 2133 completely stable. No problems. My random freezes and blue screens were caused by the Corsair power supply. Replaced with trusty 7 year old Antec and systems is completely stable.

After checking the ASUS website I found the G.Skill 1600 and 1866 are compatible with M5A97 r2.0 but not 2133. My fault for not checking the memory compatibility on the ASUS site. Sure enough when I checked the forums, the only DDR3 2133 that folks were able to run at 2133 was the ones listed on ASUS documents. The G.Skill runs fine at the ASUS recommended setting of 1866 10-11-10-30 at 1.5 volts.

So I changed my mind and admit I was a little hasty in my first review. For the cost and the performance I am getting running this memory at 1866, I would say it was a really good deal.

5 out of 5 eggsNothing Wrong. Dirt Cheap for the price and speed

Pros: Less than $50 when I bought them. Not even on sale. Just dirt cheap for memory, even with prices now

Cons: Uh, nothing. No instabilities, no random fires from tweaking voltage. Nothing

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great.

Pros: Been working great for over 5 months now. no complaints.

Cons: bit taller than necessary.

Other Thoughts: make sure it fits on your board, some cpu coolers and radiators might not fit with taller than normal ram.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review

Pros: Currently running 2,130mhz after manual bios config. Specifically tRFC = 255, and XMP Profile2. I'm writing this review with the sticks in the machine. Previous review I said I could only get it to post at 1,950mhz max and was running 1,900mhz.

Cons: Had to find the tRFC trick on my own after fiddling with manual bios settings. Found it, so no biggy.

Other Thoughts: tRFC for my mobo only goes to 255 (Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3, rev 1.0, bios F11). I suspect the SPD tries to set a value outside this max range and that's why it doesn't post when that value is set to auto. For this reason as well, I doubt my mobo is in the compatible list for this mem, but that's no problem since it's now running just fine at rated speed after manual bios config as outlined above. Thanks to Gskill prompt reply in my previous review. I will be keeping the sticks, so long as they don't release their blue smoke.

3 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Works in a 6 year old machine. Cheap. Fast delivery, got it next day. Writing this review with the sticks in the machine.

Cons: Higher than 1,950mhz, no boot. Current settings 10-13-13-34, 1.6v, 1,900mhz.

Other Thoughts: I've had another set of Gskill in that same machine for 6+ years that's been running 2,000mhz 24/7 for those past 6 years at significantly faster timing (9-9-9-27). This model: F3-16000CL9D-4GBRH (2x2GB). Maybe the manufacturer could suggest an equally reliable model, or advise on bios settings to get closer to advertised speed on the model for this review (F3-17000CL11D-8GBXL). Meanwhile, I'm reconsidering my options.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Martin

Glad to hear you got the RAM in a timely fashion and they are providing a nice boost to your older system. This is a high performance memory kit that can have outstanding results. The low voltage allows for good overclocking head room if a capable CPU and motherboard is used. If you ever have any issues or would like assistance with tweaking settings, please contact us directly. The G.Skill support team is readily available to assist you. You can also post hardware specifications on the G.Skill technical forum to get tips from many experienced users/overclockers to achieve optimal performance. The RAM is surely capable of the rated specifications and better, so it is a matter of inputting the proper settings based on your other main hardware such as motherboard and CPU. With G.Skill, you chose the best option and we can prove that.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsLove G.Skill

Pros: I have been using G.Skill for all my builds including laptop upgrades for the better part of a decade now. This memory kit went into a 2600k build and provided me a stable OC for 5 years. Now I use this same kit in AMD-8350 build. G.Skill makes quality products.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable

Pros: Reliable, XMP support easily configured from BIOS.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Ive had 8gb of this ram for over a year and recently went and bumped it to 16gb, It has never given me issues and the XMP profile was very easily set through my ASUS mobo BIOS.
