5 out of 5 eggsRun exactly as described

Pros: They run as described. Could probably run even higher Mhz. Maybe. Haven't tried yet. But I will later.

Cons: I'm not sure if this is really a con. Its probably just the way RAM is. But you have to use the EXACT timings that it says in the description here on newegg. IIRC its 9-11-10-28. On my machine, it simply would not have anything lower. Not at 2133Mhz, anyway. The rig would blue screen after lowering any numerical setting even 1 point. But again, that's probably why they advertise the timings.

Other Thoughts: Excellent RAM, would recommend to anyone. But if you are at all unsatisfied with those timing numbers before you buy, seek other RAM.

5 out of 5 eggsGoing on a year without issues

Pros: I'm not a huge fan of G.SKILL, but when I needed to upgrade my system last year these were the best modules on the market in terms of price and speed. I've been using them in my ASUS Sabertooth 990FX Gen3/R2 at the rated speed and timings without issues. Remember that home applications are not RAM bound, and that you will not notice much, if any, real world difference between DDR2 1600 and DDR3 2400, especially if you have an Intel processor with a triple channel controller.

Cons: I have noticed that, at least in the case of my modules, that they don't take kindly to having their timings fiddled with. Trying to tighten any value and it will result in either instability or a non booting situation.

Other Thoughts: Not a bad RAM choice. Not the best, but far from the worst.

2 out of 5 eggsSeems like decent memory, but runs at 1/2 speed

Pros: Admittedly, I am not an expert at the modern bios, but I think it is reasonable to assume that a non-overclocked system i7 with asus p8z68-v le MB should automatically run this memory at the rated speed if the timings and voltage are correct in the bios. I am disappointed that this is not the case.

Cons: As stated in the title, the speed I am getting from this memory is 50% of the rated speed and yes, my motherboard supports this speed although G.SKILL is not on the QVL

Dear Customer

We can help clarify this issue for you. Adjusting the timings and voltage will only affect the timings and voltage. For the RAM to operate at DDR3-2133, the DRAM Frequency needs to be set to DDR3-2133. With a capable CPU and compatible motherboard, you can also enable the XMP Profile, which allows the motherboard to automatically detect and configure the performance values of the RAM. Once the settings are configured correctly, the memory should run at full speed.

The DRAM frequency reading can vary depending where you look. With a program like CPU-z that displays bus speed or real frequency, it will be half the value of DDR3. DDR is double data rate, so the real frequency denoted by 'MHz' multiplied by 2 gives you the effective frequency. For this memory kit, it will show ~1067MHz, which is DDR3-2133. Now if you run a benchmark test where it tests effective frequency, then it will show the full value of DDR3-xxxx. Hopefully this clears things up for you. If not, feel free to contact us directly and we will be glad to assist you.

Thank you

4 out of 5 eggsFollow up to "Don't be fooled..."

Pros: Kudos to G.Skill for taking the time to respond to customer reviews! I appreciate the time they took to address my issue of not being able to get the RAM to run at its 2133Mhz rated speed.

Cons: Still can't get the memory to run at 2133

Other Thoughts: This is a follow up to my review "Don't be fooled..." posted on 5/18/2014 2:17:06 PM.

I followed the manufacture's suggestions, but still experience instability at the full 2133 speed. I have since clocked back to 1866 and it is stable.

Realistically, the difference between 2133 and 1866 is practically insignificant, so I am happy. Rerunning the Windows 7 "Windows Experience" (WE) at 1866 (vs running it at 1600 before) resulted in exactly the same numbers. Sure a "good" benchmark would show differences in the memory speed, but those are so small as to be inconsequential.

So, I have re-evaluated my rating. From my former 3/5 eggs, I changed it to 4/5. +1 egg for G.Skill's customer care. Overall, -1 egg because I still couldn't get the memory to run stable at 2133.

Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. It is strange that you are unable to reach the rated specifications of the RAM. With a capable CPU and compatible motherboard, you should have no problem at all. Should you choose to run the RAM at DDR3-1866, timings can be lowered to make up for lower frequency. Contact the G.Skill support team and they will make sure your system is operating at maximum performance.

3 out of 5 eggsDon't be fooled

Pros: - Works (but only at 1600 - see Cons)
- Looks nice (but of course it's hidden in the case)
- Beefy heatspreader/heatsink

Cons: - Unstable at 2133

Other Thoughts: Put 2 x 4 GB sticks into my new ASRock FM2A88X Extreme6+ with AMD A10-5800K Trinity 3.8GHz. Updated to latest BIOS. Running Windows 7 64-bit with all the latest updates. Not overclocking.

The BIOS detected the RAM, but only runs at 1600 on Auto. The XPD information shows 2133, 9-11-10-28. When I change from Auto to Manual and select the XPD, the computer will boot. Windows will typically boot and run for several minutes. Then, as soon as a high-memory usage program is started (such as Firefox), the computer will crash. We are talking hard crash, all the way to a black screen, not even a Windows death screen. As soon the RAM is slowed back down to 1600, it is completely stable.

The RAM is installed in slots 2 & 4 as recommended by ASRock for maximum stability.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

Glad to hear the memory looks nice and it working well in your system. If the RAM is unstable at the rated specifications, don't worry, we are here to help. The AMD A10-5800K CPU is rated for DDR3-1866. So if you are attempting DDR3-2133, it can be slightly overloaded/unstable; a boost to the CPU-NB Voltage is necessary to stabilize the memory controller. In addition to the basic memory settings/profile, increase CPU-NB Voltage +0.1V and that should allow the system to be fully stable at DDR3-2133. Once the settings are configured properly for the RAM, your computer will be fast and reliable. For any questions or issues, contact us directly because we have the answers and solutions.
