5 out of 5 eggsAwesome RAM

Pros: Speed, price

Cons: not available in 16GB sticks

Other Thoughts: Decided to go with 32GB of 1600mhz RAM when I put my current rig together. Ripjaws are good quality. After setting my BIOS to recognize 1600mhz I was off and running, no problems. Been 6 months and no issues. Highly recommend.

Would to get these in 16GB sticks. My motherboard has four RAM slots and I'd love to go up to 64GB of RAM using Ripjaws. I will keep my eyes peeled.

My current build:

Asus Sabertooth z77
OCZ Vertex 4 128GB
WD Caviar Black 1TB

4 out of 5 eggsBad Module

Pros: The RAM runs well. Comes with a heat sink on each module that is nice to the eye.

Cons: I recieved a bad module. It took me forever to realize why my computer wouldn't boot up after I got it assembled. It was a bad Ram Module. I have RMA'd it for a replacement which I am waiting for.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear you like the heat spreader on the modules. It is definitely one of the most popular designs, and it is great in keeping the modules nice and cool even during long stressful sessions. It is strange a module was bad, but please send it in for RMA exchange and a replacement should work flawlessly. All G.Skill memory kits are backed by a lifetime warranty. At any time a module is not working properly, we can have it replaced immediately. The G.Skill RMA process is quick and hassle free, so your system should be up to speed in no time. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

Dear Customer

We apologize for the inconvenience. Please complete the G.Skill RMA procedure online and we can send you new modules. All G.Skill memory kits are backed by a lifetime warranty. At any time a module is throwing errors, feel free to send it in for RMA exchange. This memory kit is above standard, so make sure to configure DRAM settings or enable the enhanced performance profile if your motherboard supports it. Other Thoughts: This is my first newegg review. the multitude of prior purchases were all ok except this one.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you are having issues. This memory kit is above standard, so please make sure to configure settings in BIOS/EFI. If your motherboard supports enhanced performance profiles, make sure that feature is enabled. Without the proper configuration in BIOS/EFI, it can cause the memory to go bad and corrupt over time. It is unlikely all four modules are defective. Test one module at a time with the rated specifications to determine if a module is causing instability. Memory diagnostics tests are not designed for multi-channel motherboards, so results may be inaccurate if you have multiple modules installed during testing. If a module is indeed defective, send the memory in for RMA exchange. The G.Skill RMA process is quick and hassle free, so you should receive new ones in no time. For any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us directly.

1 out of 5 eggsVery dissapointed

Pros: The memory modules look great.

Cons: Three of the Four memory modules were DOA.
I'm running my new computer on the one working DIMM until I return them as soon as my replacements arrive.
Too bad that I have to pay return shipping.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. It is extremely odd multiple modules were defective. Please send them in directly to G.Skill for RMA exchange. A new kit directly from G.Skill will work flawlessly as each kit is thoroughly tested before being placed in inventory. This memory kit is above standard, so please make sure to configure settings in BIOS/EFI. Without the proper settings, the system may be unstable and the memory may seem defective. With the memory configured correctly, your system should be fast and stable. For any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us directly. We will make sure 32GB of DDR3-1600 CL10 is working perfectly in your computer.

5 out of 5 eggsEmbarrassed with myself...

Pros: Fast, supports XMP, quad-channel, lots of capacity.

Cons: The first set had legitimate errors, uncovered by Memtest86+ via bootable USB key. The replacement set after RMA has been rock solid, and error free.

Ubuntu's install of memtest86+ from GRUB has a bug that caused me to mis-diagnose the second set of RAM as faulty. See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: I'm using the Gigabyte GA-x79-UD5 motherboard with a Noctua cooler for the i7-3930k CPU. I set the BIOS to warn on CPU fan failure. Because of the low RPMs of the 2 fans on this cooler, and because only one fan is hooked up to the CPU fan lead on the motherboard, the BIOS detects this as a failed CPU fan, and prevents the system from resuming from sleep each and every time (3 long beeps, followed by reboot, followed by 1 long beep and 45 short beeps). This drove me crazy troubleshooting since Gigabyte provides zero info about this beep code. What is sleep other than caching of RAM contents to disk, and then soft power off. So I made the guess that the system was having problems resuming because it couldn't restore info from the disk to the RAM. Ok, so I troubleshot the drives by pulling them out one-by-one, moving them to different controllers/channels. Still got the error and beep codes. Next step was to test the RAM. I had recently installed Mint 14.1, which is based on Ubuntu 12.10, and includes Memtest86+ that can be booted into from GRUB. The problem is that there is a known bug with this version of Memtest86+ that causes it to throw false positives on test #7 regardless of the RAM being tested. It *says* that it is Memtest86+ version 4.20, but it must make use of something in the Ubuntu build because it only fails from this version. When I boot into the latest UBCD 5.11 or from the Memtest86+ image from their website, the tests all pass with flying colors on known good RAM that I had lying around. So I tested this quad-channel kit again with the stand-alone memtest86+ and voila! it passed just fine after about 22 hours of non-stop testing.

I'm giving this product 5 eggs to balance against my last review which was 1 egg. The first set was bad, so I feel that's legit. Newegg was awesome, and even offered to RMA the second set.

The moral of the story: DON'T BLINDLY TRUST YOUR TOOLS. Software tools can be wrong sometimes. Double-check it with a second set of tools.

1 out of 5 eggsThe lost art of QA

Pros: 32GB quad-channel. That's literally it.

Cons: First set I got caused random BSODs in Windows. Ran Memtest86+ and uncovered errors in one of the 4 sticks, but because it's a quad-channel kit, had to send back the whole set. RMA'd to Newegg who promptly shipped me a replacement set. Second set has a new host of errors, not sure in which stick, but have to RMA a second time.

Also, I have a Noctua cooler for my i7-3930k in this case, using the Gigabyte GA-x79-UD5 and with these stupid gaudy heatsinks it is a huge PITA to change out the sticks, usually involving removing one of the fans from the Noctua cooler in order to seat the RAM.

Other Thoughts: Next time I'll spend an extra few bucks for low profile RAM from a company that actually cares about quality control.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you had such issues. This memory kit is above standard, so please make sure to configure settings in BIOS. With that motherboard and CPU combination, enable XMP in BIOS and see how that works. The Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) will allow the motherboard to detect the proper settings from the RAM and automatically set them for you. Otherwise, it is necessary to manually input the basic memory settings in BIOS. Without these changes, the system may be unstable and the memory may seem defective. Should you continue to have issues or have any questions, please feel free to contact us directly. We will make sure 32GB of DDR3-1600 is working fast and stable in your computer.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the value

Pros: Great price and haven't had a problem after installing them in my board and maxing out the 32gb RAM limit.

Cons: Wish it was faster CAS but I didn't paid for that and I doubt I would have notice the difference w/ my i7.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear this high speed, high capacity memory kit is working great in your new Intel i7 build. This memory kit can maximize the processing power of any CPU on the market. Take full potential of the Intel i7 CPU rather than bottleneck overall bandwidth and limit potential. A lower CAS is generally better, but it can not be noticed with the naked eye, so it is usually not a big deal. Though with 32GB of memory, you will notice that the system will never lag or delay, it should be capable of anything you put to it. For any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: -Heatspreaders do their job
-Runs at 1600MHz and 10-10-10-30

Cons: -Had to manually set frequency and timing, not sure if RAM or MoBo's fault.

Other Thoughts: I have an ASRock Z77 Extreme4 mobo, and I had to set the timing and frequency manually. The auto-detect had them running at 1333MHz and 9-9-9-24. It was easy enough to fix though.

I haven't tried and don't plan on overclocking. 32GB at their stock speeds is plenty for modern gaming and multitasking. Plus I got these during Black Friday sales for only $100, hard to beat that $/MB!

5 out of 5 eggsAlways good when stuff arrives before you're expecting it!

Pros: First of all thanks Newegg for getting this shipped out so quickly. Based on past experience I wasn't even thinking about my package arriving until the end of the week. Not only was that not the case but believe it or not it arrived a day early.

G.Skill makes good RAM. They are yet to let me down. Thanks to this 32GB kit I no longer have to power down my VMs to play Skyrim.

Cons: Wasn't free.....
