5 out of 5 eggsAwesome memory!

Pros: I had to do some searching for some memory that would work and fit in my Sabertooth x79 board with a Noctua fan. This fit the bill on both!

Cons: Not on sale?

Other Thoughts: Had a few issues getting the memory (motherboard related issue) to the proper freq, but once I figured it out the memory was screaming fast on the Memtest.

4 out of 5 eggsreview update

Pros: It all works. All 32 GB. I'm very happy about that.

Cons: XMP enabled? What the hell? Fine. Now it works.

Other Thoughts: I suppose that it is common knowledge that you have to enable the XMP profile in the system bios in order to have the entire 32 GB run without serious instability problems. My mom probably knows all about that. But I totally agree that it seems silly NOT to include a small note about enabling XMP in the package with the RAM dimms. Do you ever ask yourself why people are asking you this? Or maybe it's just me and that other guy. I actually found out about the XMP requirement by reading the Newegg product reviews. Wow! Is the profit margin on memory so small that it cannot include a simple note saying something like "For all you boneheads out there that don't know; don't forget to enable the XMP profile in the bios"? You could even stamp it on the outside of the box, for that matter. All that whining done, everything works great and I'm thrilled with the new system. But you lose an egg for not having the note. Sorry about that.

Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear all 32GB is working well in your system. The JEDEC standard is DDR3-1600 CL11, so if you have memory better than this, you must manually input settings in BIOS or enable XMP. XMP allows the motherboard to automatically detect and set memory settings. With the proper settings, you should have no issues. For any further questions or issues, please feel free to contact us directly.

Thank you

3 out of 5 eggsRam Unstable

Pros: Matched to the 3930 processor
Good clock speed
Great price (compared to the old days)

Cons: I bought 32GB (8X4) but anything over 16 GB is unstable and causes unacceptable system crashes. 16GB is rock solid, so for now that is what I am using. I am not certain at this point if it is the RAM itself or the combination of the ASUS P9X79 pro MB and the RAM.

Other Thoughts: I'm sure that I will work this issue out. I have an email into GSkill tech support (so far unanswered). I've tried multiple configurations and always get the same result. I can't really say I'm unhappy, but if I don't work this out I will regret purchasing the 32 GB kit. The new machine overall totally rocks!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you are having issues. Don't worry, we will make sure all 32GB is operating at the rated specifications. This memory kit is designed specifically for the ASUS P9X79 PRO motherboard, so you should have absolutely no problems. In BIOS, make sure XMP Profile is enabled under AI Overclock Tuner (advanced tab). If the system is unstable, try reseating the memory and make sure they are firmly inserted. Should problem persist, contact the G.Skill technical support team and they will troubleshoot the problem for you.

For your convenience, here is a guide to enable the XMP Profile:

5 out of 5 eggsEnable XMP profile in bios! or else.

Pros: 32 GB of ram, that just sounds insane.
Ram works great once the XMP profile is enabled in bios!
Testing ram with memtest via a usb stick for 16 hours found no issues ONCE XMP IS enabled via the advanced page in bios on a p9 x79 pro

Enable xmp in bios on the advanced page!

Cons: WHY if its life or death important (keep your product or return it) would you not say enable xmp in bios in a very clear, manner without having problems first?

G skill should just include a simple paper insert stating, please enter the bios to enable xmp failured to do this will result in an unstable computer and a possible return ( a pain for you, un necessary and a simple failure to communicate)

Other Thoughts: I have been building computers since 1999. One would love to assume you install ram, it should just work upon boot. and be stable etc.

But no, this ram absolutely requires xmp be selected via the advanced bios page.

I bought a Asus p9 x79 PRO motherboard and an Intel 3930k processor with this ram and used the same video card as my last system ( a gtx 680) I was getting constant ( video driver has crashed but has recovered errors it was not acceptable) I knew it was a good video card because I tried 3 different ones. I installed latest drivers for everything windows was up to date etc.

All that was left was ram. I took out all sticks but one and it was fine. I was then told and found out via forums you HAVE TO enable XMP profile via the bios settings manually.

I will never understand why this is normal. I mean seriously to get a stable system you have to muck around in the bios? Is that ok?

So is this Asus or G skills fault? all i know is XMP ! in bios!

2 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: Looks pretty
It runs

Cons: Unable to get system to boot with XMP enabled
Unable to get system to boot pushing ram t any settings beyond 1600mhz

Other Thoughts: Ran windows mem test, nothing found, not sure what's going on but I feel like I may have spent extra money for nothing and GSKILLS web site is not helpfull

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

We can surely assist you with the problem you are having. First, make sure you have the latest BIOS for the motherboard. Note, XMP is only guaranteed for the motherboards on our QML, so if you do not have one of those motherboards, additional tweaks may be necessary. Contact the G.Skill technical support team with hardware specifications and they will make sure the memory is working flawlessly in your system. Rest assured when you purchase G.Skill, you are not alone, we will make sure the memory is working fast and stable in your computer.

5 out of 5 eggsUPDATE: O.C. Review

Pros: As I hinted at doing in my previous review, I've managed to create a stable overclock with all 8 DIMM's. Note the following settings:

(Note: BCLK on i7-3820 (or LGA2011 in general) has been set to 125 to get the freq. below as an option.)

MANUAL (not XMP)
MHz: 2000
Volt: 1.55V (1.6V nominal)
Timings: 10-11-10-32 (rest are unchanged, with manually inputted settings that were detected in AUTO after XMP (so they wouldn't change automatically later)

ASUS X79 Sabertooth DIGI+ Power Control (gets about .5 GFLOPs more & 1degC higher temp out of my system on Intel Burn Test):

DRAM Current Capability (all): 110%
DRAM Voltage Frequency (all): 350KHz
DRAM Power-Phase Control (all): Extreme

These sticks really are fantastic. Thanks to this O.C. I'm able to get these results on Crystal Disk Mark on my 8GB Dataram RAMDisk (which currently stores BOINC):

5Passes@1000MB
R: 6500MB/s and W: 8700MB/S
4K: R: 447MB/s and W: 370MB/s
4KQ32: R: 435MB/s and W: 346MB/s

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: G.Skill did very well in creating this kit.

Don't be afraid to leave the XMP training wheels behind with this massive 32GB kit. It is just as capable as the smaller kits to be pushed to its limit (without utterly failing).

Just know what you're doing when you're trying to find those working settings.

I'm getting slightly higher performance than I was previously out of the SAME product!

A clear 5-egg product!
