5 out of 5 eggsGreat RAM for only $42

Pros: Works just fine in my 1333MHz system along with 2 x 2GB Kingston HyperX Genesis series memory for a total of 12GB @ 1333MHz

Matches well with my black & orange NZXT Phantom 410 case

It's a memory kit. Works as described like all others from good brands that aren't defective.

No issues to report at all!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Glad to see that DDR3 prices are starting to drop off since the addition of DDR4.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent RAM

Pros: Very fast

Cons: none yet

Other Thoughts: Ive purchased these Ares ram sticks for a couple PCs, theyre very good if you plan to use an aftermarket CPU cooler like the Coolermaster EVO212 because these are lower profile to fit under the cooler unlike some ripjaws depending on your MOBO. Overall very pleased with the many Ive bought, never any DOA

5 out of 5 eggsBRING FORTH THE WAR!

Pros: The speed and efficiency with which this RAM is able to assist the might Xeon E3-1235 dispense with any foe thrown its way is truly worthy of the highest praise! Even Heimdall would agree, and he is a man who truly knows the worth of RAM!

Cons: I'm not actually affiliated with any deity or mythology

Other Thoughts: I am a banana!

4 out of 5 eggsYou MUST change BIOS

Pros: It's RAM

Cons: It requires that you go into your BIOS and set your timing to 9-9-9-24 in order to get the timings advertised with this RAM. I am not too sure if this is the fault of G.Skill or Newegg, but I have since removed it from my machine and will hold on to it until I make a new build.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to use with my Ripjaws 1600 Mhz 9-9-9-24 RAM, but I don't trust this RAM to use with the Ripjaws now. So it sits on my desk in it's packaging until I make my steam box build.

Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. All memory kits better than DDR3-1333 CL9 or DDR3-1600 CL11 will require manual settings or enabling of the XMP/DOCP memory profile. It is not a fault, and it is the same for any RAM manufacturer. This standard allows the RAM to be used in any DDR3 computer. Once the settings are properly input, the RAM can run at the maximum rated speed, or they can be overclocked even further. For your RipJaws series kit with identical specifications, the same deal applies so you should notice the RAM is not operating at full speed if all settings are left to AUTO default. Should you need help with any set up, or have any questions, please feel free to let us know directly. We will be glad to help and make sure G.Skill RAM is operating fast and smooth in your computers.

Thank you

1 out of 5 eggsgood luck

Pros: was cheap and previous great experience with gskill

Cons: 1 stick DOA and other a month later

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

Glad to hear you have great experience with G.Skill and got the RAM at a good price. This is a high performance memory kit that is good for any build or user. 8GB is a sufficient amount for gaming, multi-tasking, streaming, and much more. DDR3-1600 allows CPUs to operate at their designed capabilities. So whatever the computer is used for, you can expect a quick and smooth system. Since the memory specifications are above standard, don't forget to enable XMP/DOCP or manually input settings in BIOS. Without doing so, the RAM may run at incorrect settings and this can cause the memory to error and become defective over time. If you believe a module is not working properly, don't worry, complete the RMA form online and we can have new modules out to you shortly.

2 out of 5 eggsGood performance while it lasts.

Pros: It does it's job! It worked right out of the box, booted my system up, and ran all my games and applications no problem. I don't overclock RAM so I can't say on OC performance, but it worked great until...

Cons: ...3 months. I've had this set for 3 months and one of the modules has given up on me. Memtest was reporting errors in the hundreds of thousands and when the stick went out it took Windows with it. I had to do a fresh installation as it corrupted the OS in such a way that trying to access System Restore / Refresh would crash Windows.

When it works it's great but I've never experienced a hardware failure that had such catastrophic effects on my operating system.

Other Thoughts: I've used G.Skill exclusively for almost ten years now and in that time all their products have worked faithfully without any kind of failure. This is the first time I used one of the Ares Series products and experienced a failure only a few months in to it. I chalk it up as a lemon, but lemons grow in groups. I'd advise to stay away from this particular product. I don't want anyone having to do an OS install at 3am with a paper due in a few hours, because of unexpected hardware failure.

Filling out an RMA form as I type this.

Dear Customer

Glad to hear the memory performed well in your computer. The specifications of this kit are above standard, so make sure to configure settings in BIOS/EFI or enable the XMP/DOCP profile for the RAM to be recognized properly. Without doing so, it is possible for the RAM to error and develop hard faults over time. This is a performance memory kit so it will definitely work extremely well for gaming and running many applications. Once you receive the new RAM and input the necessary values, we are certain your computer will be fast and stable for a long time to come. With all G.Skill products, you get the best quality product, price, support, and service. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.

5 out of 5 eggsThey work, they're orange.

Pros: They're an awesome dark metallic orange color, not the gaudy matte displayed in the first two pictures. Matches my Gigabyte SOC motherboard perfectly and sits comfortably under my tower cooler.

Cons: Rated timings were not correct initially. When first plugged in they were at 11-11-11-28. I just manually set them to 9-9-9-24; no big deal.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks fine, not bright orange.

Pros: Works at rated speeds. XMP profiles. Low cost for DDR3 at these speeds.

Cons: Could have better CAS latency but not bad.

Not the bright orange color (which I had hoped for) that is shown in the first two photos. Pay attention to the last photo, the actual color is more of a metallic firey brownish-orange. That said it is still orange, and quite attractive. I was just hoping for something brightly colored.

Other Thoughts: I did programming in H.S. back in the late 1990's, work in IT for the military and own an entire LAN setup at home. For a decade I poured over tech sites, and have learned a lot. These are things that allow you to put "high" tech knowledge on these reviews. I can always learn more so I put somewhat. We never stop learning new things.

Faster RAM speeds do little for most modern PCs - for integrated chips it makes more of a difference. The industry seems to have shifted towards more energy efficiency at this point rather than more power, something I'm fine with as the common desktop system has more power than it uses for most tasks.

I'm a fan of a program called "Speccy" made by Piriform. You can google it, it tells you a lot about your RAM and in my opinion it is superior to CPU-Z - however unlike CPU-Z you cannot run it without installing it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear the memory works at the rated specifications. DDR3-1600 CL9 is performance RAM since the standard is CL11. There are memory kits with lower timings such as CL7, but surely the price will be higher. This is a good budget memory kit for any type of builder. The low profile heat spreader allows it to fit in mini and micro ATX builds such as HTPCs. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.
