5 out of 5 eggsLooks cool, works great so far

Pros: Worked perfectly, memtest passed with flying colors.

The RAM looks cool, and while that doesn't matter, it's a nice bonus.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: Will buy G.SKILL again.

4 out of 5 eggsEasy to install.

Pros: I had no trouble at all to install the ram. In the past I've always bought ram which didn't come with a heat sink like this ram does. When installing this ram I was able to grab ahold of the heat site while installing the ram and I wasn't worried about touching some part of the ram I shouldn't which might have resulted in damaging it. Maybe my concerns are unfounded but it made me more comfortable handling the ram while installing it.

Cons: No cons really. It works. It installed easily. It still works a month later....what could I say bad about it? Nothing comes to mind.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Jason

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear the memory was easy to install and works flawlessly after a month later. This is an affordable memory kit perfect for any new build. With 8GB of DDR3-1600, gaming, multi-tasking, video streaming, and much more is capable without any lag or delays. The low profile heat spreader can fit under any large CPU cooler, and it will keep the modules nice and cool under any memory intensive circumstance. 4 out of 5 eggsIt's great

Pros: - my 2 sticks came error-free (no problems)

Cons: - Newegg fails to put in the info description that this stick is XMP 1.2

Other Thoughts: I got these 2 sticks (2x4gig) for about $35 (before Black Friday, which went for $30 during). I was lucky to get the 2 sticks with no errors when I tested with memtest86. When buying memory sticks, always test them after you get it. The most delicate part of a PC system is the memory, which tends to fails a lot. I went with G.Skill brand because they are a known brand with years of experience in memory sticks/cards (that doesn't means that there won't be a bad stick passing quality check control). The last time I bought memory stick was from Patriot and the first package came with 1 bad stick so I had to RMA'd it. I didn't want to take my chance and went with trusted G.Skills this time and I am so glad both sticks came in good.

I took 1 egg off because Newegg failed to put this important info in the description and that this orange ares (I don't know if the color has to do with it or not) series has XMP 1.2, and NOT the current XMP 1.3. Oddly that my patriot sticks which I got over 3 years ago is XMP 1.3 so this means the Ares series is a pretty old line. I want to stress that despite the XMP version are different, I am able to run both my 2x Patriot and 2x Ares sticks together just fine. XMP are back-ward compatible and 1.3 will works fine with 1.2. I am just disappointed that Newegg could at least put this info in the description so people who what they are buying.

Would I recommend this stick? Yes, because it's cheap and it works great, and there is a less chance of a bad stick from G.Skills. If looking at the XMP number don't matters to you, get it. If you're thinking about building a new PC and want a high-end parts and got money to blow, you're better off to wait and get the DDR4, the newest type of ram for the future.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: Nice price point on these.
Work well in tight Mini-ITX box.
Reliable performance for budget gaming box.

Cons: These clearly are the older generation of next gen.
Best put to use in budget gaming builds.

Other Thoughts: Work just fine in my ASRock H87M ITX budget gaming build. I play mostly older generation hack-and-slash and racing titles, and these along with Intel Pentium LGA 1150 3.2 dual core do their job without fail.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Perfect

Pros: RAM has been working great for a few months now. No troubles at all. GSkill does a great job of providing system memory at a value that many other brand name companies can't match, so if you haven't already, give them a try.

Cons: None at this time.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat RAM for only $42

Pros: Works just fine in my 1333MHz system along with 2 x 2GB Kingston HyperX Genesis series memory for a total of 12GB @ 1333MHz

Matches well with my black & orange NZXT Phantom 410 case

It's a memory kit. Works as described like all others from good brands that aren't defective.

No issues to report at all!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Glad to see that DDR3 prices are starting to drop off since the addition of DDR4.
