4 out of 5 eggsG.Skill Ares 1866 Memory

Pros: Blue color matches my motherboard
G.Skill life time warranty
overclockable
Price

Cons: Motherboard would not allow me to achieve 1866 mhz with out blue screen of death (see other thoughts)
Did not pay my mortgage

Other Thoughts: I have an FM1 Motherboard that you have to set yourself so I could never get the voltage and speed to work together, my board does support 1866 Mhz but not xmp profile. So my bad for not checking (still runs great at standard clock speed of 1600 Mhz.
I would still buy these again at $53.00 just for the G.Skill warranty.

Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear the sleek blue heat spreaders matches well with your motherboard. The high frequency and capacity makes it a very desirable memory kit for any type of new build. Whether the system is used for gaming or video streaming, this RAM can handle it all. The low voltage allows for overclocking headroom beyond DDR3-1866. You will be very pleased with the performance once everything is set up properly. Please contact the G.Skill technical support team directly and we will be glad to help. With a capable CPU, this RAM can perform extremely well. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Installed, works great. Used in a stock build, no OC. Didn't have to tweak any settings to get rated speeds.
Nice and stable, machine stays on for weeks at a time, sleeping here and there.

Cons: na

Other Thoughts: Bought more for capacity than speed, so can't comment on that. Games that ran fine before still run fine, more capacity helps for running VMs and such.

4 out of 5 eggsAdded second set with out issues

Pros: Standard profile so no interference with CPU coolers. Runs stable* see cons. Cool blue heatsinks, better than the burnt orange or fire red coolers that are used on different speeds and density's. Cost efficient ram that has a decent timing.

Cons: A voltage bump is needed to run this ram at it's full speed. It is advertised to be stable at 1.5000V but I needed to increase the voltage to 1.5750V to stabilize the ram at 1862 MHz. I would not have expected this using an Asus Sabertooth 990FX r2.0 board. The reason for the drop in frequency is because of my OC in the system.

Other Thoughts: I had originally purchased one set of these for when I did a major refresh of my PC. Knowing the trouble that can be had by using two separate sets of ram I took the chance and purchased a second set down the road to up the amount to 16 GB. Besides the need for extra voltage to become stable near 1866 there were no ill effects from adding a separate set of ram to the system.

Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear you like the cool blue heat spreaders. By adding another two modules to run at DDR3-1866, the CPU memory controller may be slightly undervolted. Raising the DRAM Voltage can indirectly help, or you can raise the CPU-NB Voltage to target the issue. With sufficient voltages, the system will be fast and stable. 16GB will allow the operating system to remain nice and smooth under any circumstance. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Best RAM out there. Low power consumption, high performance, high stability and low latency. Low physical profile to reduce the chance of interference with any processor cooling fan.

Cons: Not the cheapest, but it is the best.

5 out of 5 eggsJust the RAM please.

Pros: Blue color scheme and mid height.
CL9 latency and 1.5V XMP.
Good pricing.

Cons: None, it's what I was looking for.

Other Thoughts: 9 year old son's rig and when I upgrade the CPU to an i5 should last him a bit..
RAM even took a BCLK tweak without a hiccup..

5 out of 5 eggsIt's RAM...

Pros: Good fast RAM, my mobo allows me to use the XMP profiles instead of changing everything manually. That is a really nice feature. In the past I've changed things manually to mimic XMP profiles and it works just fine that way too.

G. Skill has never done me wrong and I've never gotten a bad stick from them. They are cheaper than other brands who I will not name, and operate just as efficiently and as quickly (timings).

Cons: Zero

Other Thoughts: I plan on getting another pack to run 16 GB.
Running this on a Gigabyte board with an i5 3570k. I don't suppose the OC on the CPU matters for compatibility purposes, but in case I'm mistaken it's running @ 4.3Ghz.

Oh and I've had this RAM for longer than I can remember, which means it might be 2 years old or 6 months old haha. I believe it is over a year old now though.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's Alright

Pros: It Works
Didn't crash my PC
It's RAM what more to say

Cons: Didn't give me a hand-job

Other Thoughts: buy it on sale.( I certainly did)

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear the memory works well in your system. This is high performance RAM that can unleash the full processing power of any CPU on the market. Make sure to enable XMP/DOCP in BIOS for the system to operate at maximum speed. With 8GB installed, the operating system can remain nice and smooth even during the most strenuous memory intensive tasks. Even if the RAM is not on sale, it is still a great buy compared to other brands. For any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid, fast RAM.

Pros: Not much to say other than the RAM works well and is fast. I've had zero issues since install. It works well on my ASRock Z97m Pro4 board. The blue color is nice. Got the RAM on sale so the price was reasonable for the speed and quality.

Cons: No cons so far.

Other Thoughts: Can't talk about long-term reliability since I've only owned it for less than a week but I've had zero issues so far.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat RAM for first build

Pros: Plugged it in and it works at the advertised speed. Matches the color scheme of my Asus M5A97 R2.0 motherboard and SAPPHIRE DUAL-X 100373-2L Radeon R9 280 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5. I was going to go with the cheaper G.Skill RAM that had a red color but decided to go with the more expensive blue in order to have a matching color scheme. Using the stock AMD CPU cooler so there was no problems installing the ram into the designated slots.

Cons: None really. Kind of expensive but RAM prices are ridiculous right now so no surprises there.

Other Thoughts: Came with a G.Skill sticker to place on your case but I don't plan on putting it on to ruin the aesthetics of the case.
