1 out of 5 eggsFailure, failure, then failure

Pros: Great while it works. Nice blue finish.

Cons: Three out of four sticks failed within a year. First failure occurred about six month in and took me forever for troubleshoot. System would just not boot from resume, not even POST. I turn it off, let cool down for 30 min and it is good to go. Time after time. I tested HDDS at low level, swapped graphics card - all the same. Dead M/B? Replaced it at the cost twice that RAM. New M/B - same result.
Swapped chips around to find faulty one, left pair on the shelf. Several months in, another failed. Quick re-shuffle, second stick goes on the shelf. Finally, third time. RAM has never been overclocked, always set by SPD. My system is liquid cooled and very well vented.
** G.Skill: this is not a coincidence, 3/4 is a rule! **

Other Thoughts: I build enough systems over 20 years to know what to expect. I had my H/W failures, but NEVER at such a spectacular rate.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you had such issues. If you would like to use SPD values, and NOT use XMP or manual settings, it is best to use a standard module such as DDR3-1600 CL11. With AUTO default settings, it is possible for the motherboard to use settings not ideal for this memory kit. As a result, errors can occur and cause the RAM to corrupt over time. Also, for future reference, it is best to use only a single kit of RAM to ensure the rated specifications. Since the modules are now most likely defective, send them in for RMA exchange and we can send you new replacements. With the new RAM, make sure to configure settings and the RAM should be fast and reliable. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

5 out of 5 eggsGskill Ares 8g 1866

Pros: It wasn't DOA. Showed up in bios as 8g 1600, both sticks. Have not enabled XMP for 1866 spdz, have not installed OS.

Paid 84 bucks for this RAM

I really loved how the packaging on this RAM was re-useable and easy to open/close. This also came with gskill sticker

Cons: None so far, will update after further use.

Other Thoughts: Everything else in my case was black and red. These are blue.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

Pros: It is fast RAM, and the heat sinks don't take up a lot of space!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This RAM works exactly as advertised. My MoBo recognized it as 1600MHz, but a quick setting change bumped it up to the advertised 1866MHz. The low rise heat sinks stayed out of the way of my CPU cooler. This is some great RAM!

3 out of 5 eggsWorked fine for about 6 months

Pros: Best RAM I could find for the price when I bought it.

Cons: PC began BSODing about a month ago. Games started crashing frequently, and then yesterday my PC wouldn't boot at all. Memtest shows the sticks have failed.

Other Thoughts: I'm a bit disappointed. Normally I buy the cheapest memory I can find and have never had a dimm fail. The one time I decided to spend a little more and get the "nicer RAM" it fails on me after 6 months.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear there is a problem with the memory. This memory kit is above standard, so please make sure to configure settings in BIOS/EFI. Without the proper settings, it is possible for the RAM to corrupt over time. Once you receive the new kit, make sure to manually configure settings or enable the XMP profile and the system should run smoothly. Visit the G.Skill website for complete RMA procedure. Once you receive a new kit, set up the RAM properly and the system should be fast and stable.

Thank you

2 out of 5 eggsPretty poor RAM

Pros: Cheap
Functions

Cons: Not actually 1866 RAM. It's 1600 RAM that's got a heatsink and includes factory overclocks. Unfortunately, even at these timings and voltages I can't even get it to POST. Only when I set it to 1600 speeds does it actually POST. Granted, I can bump it up a little if I OC the FSB, but so far the highest I got to POST was 1725 mhz with 11-11-11-33 timings, nowhere near the 9-10-9-28 at 1800 mhz. I'm using 2 x 4 GB sticks in dual channel mode.

Other Thoughts: Perhaps if I bump up the voltage, it will work. But I hate doing that, especially if it's advertised as much better RAM.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We can show you how to achieve DDR3-1866. DDR3 can only default to a maximum value of DDR3-1600 CL11. Anything better requires manual settings, or the XMP/DOCP profile should be enabled. Also, not all CPUs can natively support DDR3-1866, so this may be a potential problem. This memory kit is guaranteed to run at the rated specifications, so it will run flawlessly if configured correctly. Contact the G.Skill support team and they will help you configure the RAM to what your system is capable of. Once you are done with them, the computer will operate at maximum performance.
