5 out of 5 eggsFantastic RAM!

Pros: Great RAM. Not truly elaborate with heatspreaders; low profile and nice looking. Passed both PC Doctor extended RAM tests and Prime95 Blend tests.

Paired this up with a 4770k, so I can do some serious work: 3D Modelling and CAD. (No Quadro or FirePRO yet. :( ) Running these at the full 1866MHz with XMP enabled and it performs great! Huge step from a Core 2 Quad and 8GB DDR2-800 RAM.

Cons: Can't complain at all.

RAM does what RAM does! Not DOA either.

5 out of 5 eggsStrong, Solid RAM

Pros: * Low-profile form-factor
* 16GB at 1866
* Lifetime warranty from a company well-respected in the industry
* Strong support for overclocking / timing adjustments

Cons: * Touchy on power requirements for POST

Other Thoughts: These modules were purchased to round out a 64GB setup on a Sabertooth x79-based system. [Multiple] boards would not initially post with the RAM until the most current BIOS was flashed and the ram put in the second pair of channels (C, D). After configuring for 1.6v, the system would post with 4 units in for 32GB total. After running the system for a few months at 1.6, I was able to scale back down to the tested 1.5v. While G.Skill is a highly-respected company in the industry, I was surprised at the steps required to get the system to POST with the RAM. Should the RAM show signs of degradation, I will RMA under the lifetime warranty.

This RAM is well-suited for those looking to take advantage of the DDR3 speed range while staying in the general 'advised' range of motherboards. While not the fastest options available, they are solid performers with plenty of overhead room for those looking to push performance through overclocking or adjustment of the timings.

You will likely want to consider investing into direct cooling cooling solutions if overclocking these modules as their heatsinks lack the surface area for thermal dissipation. They support mild overclocking on passive cooling, but will likely need active cooling to reach their performance limits.

3 out of 5 eggsI have used this since 2012

Pros: Looks good and Is reliable. Low-ish profile to fit under a large CPU cooler.

Cons: Back in 2012, it went for $55 !!!!!! (black friday sale)
Yes, 2 x 8 for 16 gig at $55!

Other Thoughts: Considering the fact that any 2 sets of ram, even from same maker with identical item numbers, are NOT guaranteed to be compatible....
I would have to wait for this set to be at LEAST $75 before I would buy another.
When we call $160 a bargain, we only screw ourselves.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

Glad to hear you think the memory looks good and is working well in your system. The G.Skill Ares series is low profile so it will clear large aftermarket CPU coolers. It can also fit in small form factor cases so you can have high performance in a space limited case. With regards to pricing, that is something we can not control. Current supply is different than 1-2 years ago which is why you notice a difference in price. So in the future, if you notice a good deal on RAM, you know to purchase the full amount you may need. Otherwise, one day when you finally need more RAM, price can be higher. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

5 out of 5 eggsGood RAM, good price

Pros: -Overclocked well (can't remember the exact timings, they all got reset to default but I know we were able to push it pretty far)
-Good price point for 16GB RAM

Cons: -They didn't exactly match the red-themed case that I bought, but it didn't matter. You couldn't see very well inside without a window, and a decent-sized CPU cooler hid them from sight.

Other Thoughts: I bought these for a gaming/video editing rig. They've served me well and I have no complaints.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat memory

Pros: Using this to run multiple OS's concurrently via Virtual Box, everything runs very well and I've had no issues what so ever.

Cons: No Instructions included, could not get EOCP to work as advertised with this memory kit.

Other Thoughts: Could not get this to automatically setup via EOCP with my Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ with AMD FX-8350 processor.

What worked for me (Settings).

EOCP = Disabled
Set Memory Clock = 9.33 (1866 MHz)
DDR3 Timing Items = 10, 10, 10, 30

2T
10T = CAS LATENCY
10T = RAS TO CAS R/W DELAY
10T = ROW PRECHARGE TIME
30T = MINIMUM RAS ACTIVE TIME

System Voltage Control = MANUAL
DRAM Voltage Control = 1.500v

*** Tips for success ***
I upgraded from 8GB DDR3 1600MHz to 16GB DDR3 1866 MHz.

This part is common sense but may be helpful to some...

Put memory into slots 4, 3

If you don't already know, memory slots are not in numerical order, usually they are ordered 1,3,2,4 if you read the manual or look at your motherboard you'll probably see the numbers written on the board.

For me to get this memory to show up and POST (Power On Self Test) in BIOS you need to clear your CMOS first via the jumpers on your motherboard.

Prior to doing this I would just get a black screen and the BIOS would not POST.

Also, make sure that you manually set your DRAM Voltage Control to 1.500v, I recommend that you do this even if it already displays 1.500 volts as some people have had problems if they did not perform this step.

Hope this info helps somebody out there :)

3 out of 5 eggsFast but not 1866

Pros: Cost effective considering how expensive ram is now. Low profile so it fit under my Noctura D14.

Cons: Won't/Can't run 1866 at 1.5v. Will run 1600 all day long (30 cycles of Intel Burn Test at max). Failed within 2nd-3rd cycle consistently at 1866 on very high.

Perhaps this ram is simply promising too much at 1866 or it's expect of us to up ram voltage to make it actually work as promised which I don't want to do.

Other Thoughts: My Rig: Before someone chimes in that perhaps my machine can't handle 1866.

Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you had such issues. Glad to hear the memory fits well under your aftermarket CPU cooler. Overclocking can be done while keeping the CPU well under normal operating temperature. The memory you purchased is rated for DDR3-1866 CL10, so it should have no problem reaching these specifications at all. In fact, enable the XMP Profile in BIOS, then everything should be ready to go. If you have issues, feel free to contact us directly, or send the memory in for RMA exchange and a new kit should work flawlessly.

Thank you

4 out of 5 eggsGood product

Pros: Look really cool and get the job done. They were $118 so it wasn't too bad of a deal.

Cons: They came clocked at 1333Mhz so that was disappointing. But I changed the setting to 1600hz immediately, and haven't tried anything over that yet. Wasn't too big of an issue, just a nuisance.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear you got the RAM at a good deal and you think the memory looks really cool. The memory is above standard, so you need to manually configure settings in BIOS/EFI, or enable the XMP/DOCP/EOCP performance profile. Without completing either, the motherboard can only recognize standard values such as DDR3-1333 CL9. Once everything is set up in BIOS/EFI, the computer can operate at optimal performance. Should you need assistance with this, or have any questions, please feel free to contact us directly.
