3 out of 5 eggsFailed over time with minimal use

Pros: Worked a few times. Fairly fast.

Cons: Was in wife's seldom used digital camera. Had for a couple years but hardly used. Now doesn't work at all. Camera was used less than 10 times with this memory card.

2 out of 5 eggsSomething's WRONG!

Pros: When used for light duty, low capacity, this card lasted quite a while. (If you consider 2 years quite a while) Low cost, versatile, fast, high capacity.

Cons: I only put about 200Mb on this card, and it's use was extremely light since the files were music, the use was WAV file playback, one video only played about 4 times and one data file. The stereo I was using was sold with the car it was in...So I decided to use it for ready boost to revive an older laptop. It was working as desired while I was surfing the web... I was searching the egg for memory and started reviewing all the problems with this one's bigger brother the 32Gb version. At some point the MFG.s response included information that suggested using a special format utility... I thought: I didn't do that! I don't want my card to die, so I'd better download the utility and reformat the card...WRONG! This was the first time the card had been fully exercised because I decided to use the erase data feature and reformat the card. The utility took a decade to run and immediately after formatting with the recommended utility I tried to return it to service as a ready boost device. NOT Happening! The drive failed the speed test for Ready Boost but still remained recognized as an available memory location so I transferred the files back onto it that I'd removed to perform the format...BYE BYE files! The drive failed completely, the formatter would no longer recognize it, Windows 7 realized there was something in the bay, but no access exists. The drive is totally BRICKED! If only I had another copy of that video! All the other files were copies from another drive...G Skill You've GOT to determine the cause for the rampant failures of these devices! The failure rate is far and away beyond acceptable levels. I LOVE your RAM! It's my preferred stick for multiple builds, but these SD cards are a disappointment!

Other Thoughts: I thought I was investing my time wisely by trying to reformat this SD card with the recommended utility...Maybe a quick format would have been enough, but if the card can't stand to have zeros written to it's memory locations to capacity more than a single time...then it can't be trusted with important data, and if the data aren't important, why store it at all??? Maybe the card failed because it wasn't originally formatted with the utility, but if that's required then a notice should have been included in the packaging to alert the user to download the utility and use it exclusively for the SD card. I'd never heard of the utility before yesterday! Who knows how long it would have lasted had I not tried to maintain it! I keep dozens of computers running, but I failed to extend or even perpetuate the life of this card despite my best efforts... Not Good news for G Skill SD cards but remember G Skill RAM is still my preferred stick for dozens of custom builds, and upgrades...THAT hasn't changed due to this issue!

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

Glad to hear the memory card was working well for 2 years. This is a high speed memory card that is perfect for HD and large file use. It is strange the flash stopped working after a format. Some thing may have corrupted blocks during the process causing the storage to fail. Don't worry, all G.Skill microSD cards are backed by a lifetime warranty, so please send it in for RMA exchange and we can have a new one out to you immediately. The G.Skill RMA process is quick and hassle free, so you can receive a replacement before you know it. Visit gskill.com for complete RMA procedure. For any further questions or concerns, feel free to let us know directly.

1 out of 5 eggsDead less than 1 year

Pros: na

Cons: Completely dead after using in my Galaxy s3 for less than 1 year. Lost countless files, pictures, videos, etc. Never got around to sending in RMA because of the hassle, & the fact I just popped in an old Samsung Class 2 microsd card (4 yrs old) and that's been working fine, albeit slow...

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsDoesnt work

Pros: None

Cons: Doesn't work

Other Thoughts: Ordered dash cam. Not as advertised (wanted visor mount & no card). Ordered Card & received today. Doesn't work as dash cam indicates "Format", click "OK" for "yes", then indicates "Please plug out card". Live in a big city and should have gone to local retailer to avoid aggravation

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear your dash cam is not working properly and some things were not as advertised. The G.Skill microSD card would be a great fit for the device. The Class 10 speed is perfect for HD recording, and the 16GB capacity is perfect for videos and large files. A flash card can have multiple purposes, so if the dash cam is not working, simply use the flash card in another device such as smart phone or camera. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

1 out of 5 eggsHigh Failure Rate

Pros: Size

Cons: Mostly Everything you don't want in storage: High Failure Rate. Don't be fooled. GSKILL will twist your arm behind your back to get and RMA and Newegg won't help any either. At best this product is a scam!

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Reliability

Pros: The cards were fast when they worked.

Cons: The longevity of these cards is very poor. I purchased two of them and less than two years later they have both given up the ghost.

The first one died within about 1 year. The second one died just recently, about 1.5 years after I purchased them.

The first card, was used in my phone, which I ended up having to factory reset to get it working properly again after the card died in it. The second card died in my laptop, which I had to uninstall the SD adapter and reinstall it to get it working properly. I don't know what these cards do when they die, but that's two separate devices that they have caused issues with upon their demise.

Other Thoughts: It's frustrating when technology like this breaks so quickly. It's even more frustrating when it messes up other things, like your phone.

I would recommend purchasing a card known for reliability and longevity. Speed is nice, but not at the expense of reliability.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

This is a high speed, high capacity card that should work extremely well for smart phones, laptops, and any device that can support the latest flash cards. All G.Skill memory cards are backed by a lifetime warranty, so we can take care of any product defects right away. For all questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks good

Pros: Works well,
Fast speed

Cons: If they make them any smaller, I won't be able to get it in or out of the device! (Not a GSkill issue)

Other Thoughts: SD cards have a wide range of performance, even if rated for USB 3. If you read reviews of actual speeds, not even the expensive ones get fast compared to a SSD. Many of the faster speeds are only obtained in the bigger cards so you have to watch the spec's and see which ones get what speeds. Read the phine print!
