5 out of 5 eggsINCREDIBLE Value

Pros: EXTREMELY great Cost-to-Performance/Capacity/Quality/Looks ratio. No stability, speed, or compatibility issues.

Cons: Doesn't overclock well for me. Any slight changes to CAS timings or CPU timing ratios would produce failures in MemTest. HOWEVER, that doesn't really matter for everyday performance. Benchmark-after-benchmark shows that there's typically no noticeable real-world performance difference in DDR3 MHz past a certain point, and 1600MHz seems to be a sweet spot. Minor bumps to benchmark numbers occur, but when performing everyday tasks or playing games, it doesn't factor as much as other components. Still important to note if you plan on overclocking this RAM for whatever reason.

Other Thoughts: I've been using this particular quad-DIMM setup from G.Skill with my ASUS Maximus V Formula motherboard and Intel 3770k for over 2 and a half years and have LOVE them. Not a single issue, failure, or oddity. As long as I don't change timings, I've had no issues keeping stable overclocks ranging from 4.3GHz to 4.7GHz. 10/10 would RAM again. ;)

5 out of 5 eggsAlways Dependable

Pros: Consistently good quality from G. Skill

Cons: None that I have found

Other Thoughts: I've been using G. Skill memory for new builds and upgrades for about five years and have never had any issues. This set was no exception. I split these into 16GB installations for two builds.

2 out of 5 eggsDo Not Use With MSI Mainboards

Pros: -Inexpensive compared to the competition for what you get.
-G.Skill stuff is usually good quality.

Cons: -Major compatibility issues with MSI mainboards (see other thoughts.)

Other Thoughts: I checked beforehand and the G.Skill product page for this product (found at http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-1600c9q-32gxm) specifically lists my MSI Z77A-GD65 mainboard as among those that are compatible with this kit. However, once it was installed, my system became incredibly unstable. If any 2 of the 4 sticks were installed in any pair of the sockets on my mainboard, the system was unstable but less so. If all 4 sticks were installed, the system wouldn't load Windows without a blue screen. I assumed I just got a faulty product, then I found this thread which is stickied on the MSI mainboards forums: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=178019.0. It appears that MSI boards have many known issues with all kinds of G.Skill RAM. In some cases, you can manually work around the problem, in some cases you can't. Needless to say, this product does not appear to be properly compatible with my mainboard, despite G.Skill's claims. I've already setup an RMA and ordered a more expensive Corsair kit instead. I've generally had good experiences with G.Skill and the pricing on their products is great but apparently, that comes with some caveats. If you have an MSI board, be warned.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you had issues. There is absolutely no compatibility issues with MSI motherboards. The first thing to check is whether you have the latest BIOS for the motherboard. To determine whether it is a problem with a stick, or a compatibility issue, test one module at a time to see if one performs differently. This RAM is also above standard, so it is necessary to enable XMP or manually input settings for the memory. Without doing so, the system may not recognize the specifications properly. In the future, if you have such problems, please contact the G.Skill support team directly. We can help determine the culprit of any instability and make sure the RAM is running fast in your computer.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsBUY THIS MEMORY!

Pros: Performance meets expectations, running solid for last 10 days.

Cons: _NONE_

Other Thoughts: The Price/Value ratio makes this a great quality product for a reasonable price.

I've been using G. Skill memory for years and have yet to be disappointed by their products.

5 out of 5 eggsGood looking, worked perfectly

Pros: Heat sinks look nice. Also nice for holding them - keeps one's fingers off the actual chip while handling.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I wondered whether I should spring for faster speed than 1600, but I did some reading and it appears that some very knowledgeable folks have concluded that there is a testable difference between, e.g., DDR3 1600 and DDR3 3200, but that it is very difficult if not impossible to tell by your own perception (in absence of software testing). One gent claimed it made a few FPS difference. All in all, it appears to be much more about other components of your system - SSD vs HDD, GPU being much bigger impact on gaming performance than memory *speed*, though of course you need to have *enough* memory not to have to swap, but of course you probably knew that.

3 out of 5 eggsOne bad stick on arrival

Pros: I've had G.Skill product in past builds and never had an issue. Giving them the benefit of the doubt (3 stars rather than 1), and assuming this was just a fluke. System was running beautifully for about 20 minutes. Have ordered thousands of dollars worth of product from Newegg over the years......this is the first defective item I have ever gotten from them.

Cons: Put together new system and after loading Win 8.1 and just getting my new rig warmed up, started getting intermittent blue screen of death with random error codes (ie MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, BAD_POOL_HEADER, SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONE_PAGED_AREA). I was miffed by all the varying error codes, but after doing some Googling, I started to focus in on the RAM. Pulled out the 3 & 4 sticks and just-like-that, the system ran flawlessly. Quickly narrowed it down to a single bad stick out of the 4.

Other Thoughts: Newegg issued RMA right away, but a little miffed about having to pay to ship it back and insure it so I wouldn't be out 300 stabs if UPS lost it on the way pack. Should a manufacturer's defect really have ended up costing me additional money? Now I have a $2000 paper weight sitting on my desk waiting for Newegg to receive the returned product and resend the replacement product. I know life happens, and things don't always work out the way we plan, but frustrating nevertheless.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Set of RAM

Pros: Wow pretty much sums it up. 32GB of RAM used in a GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-Gaming 5 mother board. Built this out for and Adobe/video capture project and this just makes things run silky smooth.

Cons: None

3 out of 5 eggsDIMM failed after 7 months

Pros: Very fast RAM.

Cons: I run sys_basher periodically to determine if my RAM is reliable. Desktop systems don't have ECC so there is no way to know if you have a RAM problem unless you run a diagnostic like sys_basher (availble in the repos for Fedora and Enterprise Linux 6 and 7). I bought this RAM in May, it passed sys_basher at that time. Over New Years I ran sys_basher on all of my systems (I have 10). One of these DIMMs failed badly. I ran sys_basher repeatedly (it's an overnight run) and if failed consistantly. I moved the DIMM to another socket just to make sure it wasn't a motherboard problem, the errors moved with the DIMM. I replaced the DIMM with a spare, now the system passes sys_basher.

Other Thoughts: DRAM is not nearly as reliable as people think. I've had several DIMMs fail on me, altough none has failed as badly as this DIMM. Unforunately desktop systems have no error detection or correction, if you want that you have to buy a server, so the only way to know if you have a problem is to run a diagnostic. On Linux systems the program to use is sys_basher, I don't think there is anything as good on Windows boxes (Memtest86 isn't nearly as comprehensive).

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

Glad to hear the memory is working very fast in your system. This is a high capacity, high performance memory kit that should be very reliable in any new build. The RAM specifications are above standard, so make sure to configure settings in BIOS/EFI. With the proper values input, the RAM will perform extremely well and stable. Visit the G.Skill website for RMA procedure. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.

5 out of 5 eggsGood stuff

Pros: Has run stable from day one for over a year now. I was impressed when 4 sticks worked straight out of the bubble wrap without any BIOS tweaking. ( ASRock Z87M Extreme4 MB).

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Not a peep after a year of constant use.

5 out of 5 eggsDifferent but love it

Pros: Insanely fast
very stable
great clearance for my CPU heat sink
ram heat sink color matches my LED color/theme

Cons: Was having some issues getting it set up in my Asus Sabertooth Z87. I'm thinking it was the motherboard not the ram. Even after I updated the BIOS to the latest version it refused to read both of the A slots and would not post until I took them out and only ran the 2 B slots.

Other Thoughts: I had a friend come over who knew more about Bios settings/programing and between the two of us and 3 hours we managed to get it running although (still not sure what we did) in an odd way... For some reason the MOBO wants to read the ram in a raid-ish setting so instead of the 32 gigs at 1600mhz. The benchmark tests and CPU-Z are both saying that its running16 gigs at 3800mhz.... still... not sure what we did but its running stable and insanely fast
