Overview
It's Not the Fastest, Until It's TridentX!
Memory Frequency World Record at DDR3 4404MHz
TridentXBreaking the highest DDR3 speed world record at a staggering 4404MHzMHz in 2012, the G.SKILL TridentX series is known as the world's most powerful and fastest DDR3 memory available on the market. Named after the powerful weapon of Poseidon, Greek God of the Seas, G.SKILL TridentX is imbued with extreme overclocking capabilities waiting to be unleashed in your system.
Removable Heat Spreader Fin
The G.SKILL TridentX series features a removable heat spreader fin to improve your cooling options. With the heat spreader fin, the increased surface area keeps the memory cooler. Alternatively, with a system that already has a sufficient cooling solution, the fins can be removed to accommodate massive CPU coolers or other customized cooling solutions.

The G.SKILL TridentX heat-spreader comes with removable top fin design. It allows overclocking enthusiasts to have more flexible options of memory cooling systems, as well as to reduce the height to fit with large CPU coolers.

Extreme Performance
Extreme overclockers and PC enthusiasts look no further, G.SKILL's TridentX DDR3 memory will push your system to an unimaginable limit. Not only available at ultra high frequencies of 2400MHz, 2600MHz, 2666MHz, 2800MHz and 3000MHz, but also available with extremely low timings at 2133MHz CL9, 1866MHz CL8, and 1600MHz CL7!
Intel XMP Support
TridentX All G.SKILL DDR3 memory comes with the latest Intel XMP standard developed for the Intel platform. It provides PC enthusiasts an entirely trouble-free overclocking experience to boost their 4th Gen Intel® Core™ processors with Intel 8 series systems for extreme levels of performance, while retaining system stability.

Lifetime Warranty
All G.SKILL memory products come with a lifetime warranty and the G.SKILL technical team is always ready to provide consumers with complete technical support via online forums, telephone, and email.

TridentX Editor's Choice at Techpowerup
If you follow my posts on the forums, you'll find that I consider myself one of Corsair's biggest fans, but those feelings were thrown completely out of whack when I received this kit from G.Skill. The G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to completely amaze me with its quality and clocking ability, and I fell in love after checking its price. You cannot find a 4 x 4GB 2666MHz kit for less right now unless it's been put on sale. This kit manages to overcome any performance deficiencies with flexibility and great overhead. At stock, I managed to beat out my trusty Corsair Dominator Platinum kit with a little bit of tweaking. Overclocked, the G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to go just as high without a boost in voltage. That is just outright fantastic.

TridentXEditor's Choice at Neoseeker
G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit put on an impressive display of performance, easily overcoming the competition in all but four of the benchmarks used. Unfortunately, the memory was bottlenecked by the processor -- limiting the overclock to a 104 bclk and leaving us with a final overclock of 2218MHz and timings of 10-12-12-31 2T. Paired with a 3rd generation Intel processor, G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit would have benefited greatly from the increased bandwidth and has the potential to hit 2500MHz with some fine tuning.

TridentXGold Award at OverClockersClub
G.Skill's Trident X line-up comes with kits that range from the 2400MHz kit we are looking at to a 2800MHz kit for massive memory speeds and the associated bandwidth that is a hallmark of higher speed bins. It seems that G.Skill is most definitely targeting the budget overclocker with this set of Trident X modules. A $99 price tag for 2400MHz-rated modules is a welcome sight after seeing huge price tags just a few months back for cas8 and 9 modules binned above 2133MHz. The Trident X are modules that perform well and deliver some overhead for a little bit more tweaking and come with G.Skill's lifetime warranty. Excellent looks aside, the Trident X would make a good addition to any system and have the flexibility to be cooled in multiple ways.

4 out of 5 eggsRuns a bit hot for me

Pros: Good combo price
Was able to get stable at 1.5v 1866Mhz

Cons: Consistently ran at 1.683-1.687v using XMP

Other Thoughts: Using an ASUS Z97-A motherboard I consistently got 1.683-1.687 volts using the 2400 MHz XMP profiles. I really don't need 2400 MHz and I don't want to run the voltages that high, so I played around to see how fast I could get these to go at 1.5v.

XMP 2440 1.65v (actual 1.683-1.687v)
2400 10-12-12-31 2t Memory Latency: 48.0

These were all stable at 1.5v: (actual 1.53v)
1600 9-9-9-24 1t Memory Latency: 56.1
1600 8-8-8-24 1t Memory Latency: 54.1
1866 9-10-9-28 1t Memory Latency: 51.9
1866 8-9-9-24 1t Memory Latency: 50.5

I use the last one as it gets me pretty close to the 2400 XMP but runs at a much more comfortable 1.5v.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear you got the RAM at a good price. This is a very popular memory kit as you get great looks, high performance, and high capacity at a low price. As you have experienced, this memory kit is very flexible, so even if you have a CPU that can not support DDR3-2400, or if you don't want to run the voltage higher than 1.50V, this RAM is still compatible and capable of it all. Those are very good testing results that should be helpful to many people. Extreme frequency performs best for the latest Intel CPUs, but to maintain a low voltage, a good performance level can still be had with a lower frequency and timing configuration. For any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsNice RAM

Pros: -These are sturdy ram sticks with a relatively high clock and low latency timings which are beneficial for any system over slower clocks and higher timings.

-The red part of the heatsink is removable! It's great if you plan on using a giant cpu heatsink (pretty much any double tower heatsink).

Cons: None that I can think of

5 out of 5 eggsBeautiful

Pros: This memory is wonderfully solid. Its probably the heaviest memory I've ever held. I'm pretty sure I could defend my family against a home intruder with this stuff. Seriously. Solid.

Also, it shipped really fast with the cheap shipping option. Newegg is famous amonfor getting packages out to Nashville quickly

Cons: I bought this memory for a system I'm building for my wife. I got the memory first because I thought I could 'borrow' it in my 5 year old phenom II x4 machine and play me some Warcraft, but I get no video while the trident RAM is installed. It sounds like it is starting, but I have the little *BEEP* speaker turned off so no beep codes. Just FYI don't buy this RAM unless you have a fairly new CPU/MoBo and in all honesty, you probably won't get the full potential out of this memory on an AMD build using currently available AMD stuff

Other Thoughts: I could probably flash the BIOS on this Phenom II dinosaur, but I don't want to mess with the old box since it still plays WoW on high settings, which is all I need it to do for now. I'm going to go ahead and order the MoBo today and make sure it will POST with this memory and will update my review when I get the system built. This RAM will eventually end up living next to an overclocked, water cooled i7 5990k. And yes, I'm aware that I'm wasting money for small upgrades lol

5 out of 5 eggsOh Baby!

Pros: (See Other Thoughts)

Cons: (See Other Thoughts)

Other Thoughts: This RAM runs smooth and looks fantastic! No brainer here. Teamed a set of these with the MSI Z97 Gaming 7 and I drool whenever I look at the computer. :)

5 out of 5 eggsWhy go anywhere else?

Pros: Must echo comments of Brian H. below; easily ran these up to the max on my board: DDR-2133@9-11-11 in 1T at 1.6v and could tweak it a little more. Oversize sink fins interfere with large cpu coolers but are easily removed with no danger of overheat, esp if placed alongside a fan.

Cons: Absolutely none at this time, they are stable and that is what matters to me. Be sure to give them enough juice and you'll avoid the glitches.

Other Thoughts: Take advantage of the discounts, they make this RAM one of the best bargains around.

5 out of 5 eggsThis ram is fast

Pros: If you are looking for a fast set of ram that is high quality and looks awesome, this is it. For about the same price as a 1600mhz set, this 2400mhz set is a no brainer. The heat spreaders look great and the colors will match a black and red setup beautifully. The red fins do come of btw.

Cons: This isnt really a con, but the sticks are a little tall and they might hit your cpu cooler if you have a big one, but the fins do come off leaving you with plenty of room.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a 2400mhz set of ram, this is it. You get fast ram with great timings at a low price. Plus the lifetime warranty. You can't beat it.

5 out of 5 eggsFast

Pros: Very fast, havent even bothered overclocking it yet and handles everything, G-Skill makes great products and this is top of the line

Comes with a case sticker, stickers make it go faster

Cons: doesn't support FM2/+ boards nativlly (downclocks to 1600mhz) nothing a simple tweak cant fix, still annoying tyhough

Other Thoughts: I know i'm never going to need to upgrade my ram. G-skill makes great products

Guts, Glory, G-Skill Ram

5 out of 5 eggsGreat RAM both speed & price!

Pros: Very fast CL of 9.6 @ 2400MHz, 9 at 2133
Supports Intel XMP 1.3 for EZ setup in most BIOSes
Nice removable heatsink design
Passed on Win7 memory diagnostic and Memtest 5.01+

Cons: You could cut your fingers handling these babies (like some reviewers have)!

Other Thoughts: I tested these in serveral passes of Memtest 5.01 at 2400MHz and 2133 - both had NO errors.

However, when I first installed this set in my Gigabyte F2AX88XM AMD motherboard, it didn't recognize the XMP profile timings. I literally had to re-flash my BIOS to clear the previous set of memory's XMP data and then this memory was automatically timed perfectly using XMP. I've never had that happen before! Not a fault of the RAM, but rather Gigabyte on no factory reset of all settings in their BIOS!

Very happy with this set as it has easily passed all tests and works great at either 2400 MHz (CL10) or 2133 (CL9).
