Features

Removable Heat Spreader Fin

The G.SKILL TridentX series features a removable heat spreader fin to improve your cooling options. With the heat spreader fin, the increased surface area keeps the memory cooler. Alternatively, with a system that already has a sufficient cooling solution, the fins can be removed to accommodate massive CPU coolers or other customized cooling solutions.

If you follow my posts on the forums, you'll find that I consider myself one of Corsair's biggest fans, but those feelings were thrown completely out of whack when I received this kit from G.Skill. The G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to completely amaze me with its quality and clocking ability, and I fell in love after checking its price. You cannot find a 4 x 4GB 2666MHz kit for less right now unless it's been put on sale. This kit manages to overcome any performance deficiencies with flexibility and great overhead. At stock, I managed to beat out my trusty Corsair Dominator Platinum kit with a little bit of tweaking. Overclocked, the G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to go just as high without a boost in voltage. That is just outright fantastic.

G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit put on an impressive display of performance, easily overcoming the competition in all but four of the benchmarks used. Unfortunately, the memory was bottlenecked by the processor -- limiting the overclock to a 104 bclk and leaving us with a final overclock of 2218MHz and timings of 10-12-12-31 2T. Paired with a 3rd generation Intel processor, G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit would have benefited greatly from the increased bandwidth and has the potential to hit 2500MHz with some fine tuning.

Gold Award at OverClockersClub

Gold Award at OverClockersClub

G.Skill's Trident X line-up comes with kits that range from the 2400MHz kit we are looking at to a 2800MHz kit for massive memory speeds and the associated bandwidth that is a hallmark of higher speed bins. It seems that G.Skill is most definitely targeting the budget overclocker with this set of Trident X modules. A $99 price tag for 2400MHz-rated modules is a welcome sight after seeing huge price tags just a few months back for cas8 and 9 modules binned above 2133MHz. The Trident X are modules that perform well and deliver some overhead for a little bit more tweaking and come with G.Skill's lifetime warranty. Excellent looks aside, the Trident X would make a good addition to any system and have the flexibility to be cooled in multiple ways.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth every penny

Pros: Works as advertised

My bios was already set to xmp profile 1 so this was literally plug and play for me nothing else was needed to do. Will do business with G.Skill again.

My comp specs:
i74770k
Nvidia GTX 690
ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO LGA 1150
16GB DDR3 @ 2400 "system actually shows it as 17gb , not complaining"

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: I was skeptical about g.skill as I have always used corsair in the past but there prices have become outrageous and so I took a chance and I am very glad I did. G.Skill just made themselves a new customer.

5 out of 5 eggsExactly as promised

Pros: Runs exactly as advertised with no issues. Set bios to xmp profile 1 and good to go. No further tweaking needed can't ask for easier setup.

My system:

i74770k
Nvidia Gtx 690
Asus Maximus VI Hero
16GB DDR3 @ 2400

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This is my first time using ram other than kingston but they have become so overpriced I decided to try something new and man am i glad i did. This ram is excellent and they have just made a future long term customer.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it.

Pros: Quad channel, 2400 mhz is soo fast if your board can support it. works with AMD or Intel

Cons: the AMD 8350 does not technically support 2400mhz ram (1866 max) it will work with it at 2400 mhz but it limits CPU overclock ability due to northbridge heat(at least for me i cant speak for anyone else)and it was a bit of a hassle learning how to underclock ram and what latencys i should use to get it down to 1866 stable but oncei got it set like that im actually seeing 3% more performance from the ram then i was at 2400MHZ with no CPU overclock. plus! that lower CL latency is so sexy. with my 8-10-10-31 2t timings with my read to read set to 5 and lower voltage then stock(cant remember the exact voltages but i think i hit the - button 3 times and that was as far as i could go with it and have it still stress test)

Other Thoughts: if your planning on buying an 8350 do youself a favor and buy the 1866 version of this ram and youll have alot easier time setting it up manually

3 out of 5 eggsG.SKILL F3-2400C10Q-16GTX

Pros: Paired with Asus Z87-Deluxe. Works and love the speed.

Cons: Bought the ram in June of 2013 here on Newegg. Paid for 1x1 yr Replacement W/ ADH plan, and glad I did. Two out of the four modules were DOA. I read the reviews of memory before buying and kept seeing G.SKILL respond with “Each G.Skill Trident X series kit is handpicked, tested, and guaranteed to operate at the rated specifications”. How is that possible when two out of four modules don't work? This was my first buying any G.SKILL product. In the future I will be vary weary buying ram from them again, based on statements that promote product is tested.

Other Thoughts: After getting the ram replaced by Newegg, it works great. Its been nine months with no issues. I am knocking two eggs off for the two out of four DOA modules. Newegg handled the RMA, and it was painless! So thanks Newegg.

3 out of 5 eggsone of the sticks is not working.

Pros: amazing RAM, mobo detected the sticks and after setting the speeds to the rated ones its working flawlessly,

Cons: except for one problem, one of the sticks is faulty out of the box and sadly, I live far that I cant RMA it.... wish G.skill could find me a solution for that

Other Thoughts: would have note that when you press the Trident X into the DIMM slot you have to make sure that you don't push it from the heat spreaders head... it hurts..

Dear Customer

Glad to hear the memory is working flawlessly in your computer. For RMA, there are several locations around the world you can ship the memory to have replaced. Please contact the G.Skill RMA dept for your nearest location. Once you receive a new kit, install the RAM, configure the DRAM settings or enable XMP, then everything should be ready to go at full speed. This is a high capacity, high performance memory kit so you will be extremely pleased with the result. With regards to installation, refrain from pressing down directly with thumbs (traditional). Instead, put the index finger and thumb on each side of the red fins, rather than directly on top, then press down on the memory module. With fingers in a "pinching" fashion, the memory can be safely installed. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

5 out of 5 eggsFAST memory, looks great

Pros: Memory runs at specified speeds using the XMP profile. Had no problems whatsoever. I could definitely notice the difference in the overall performance of my PC after installing these babies. They also look great in my red themed PC.

Cons: It's not really a con, but the edges of the RAM sticks are VERY sharp. Just be careful if installing. They can give you a nice knuckle scratch or two.

Other Thoughts: Using with ASUS Sabertooth X79 mobo, i7 3970X CPU, and using 2 sets of 16GB. Fires up like a charm, without a flinch at 2400MHz!

5 out of 5 eggsG.Skill Trident X Series Memory

Pros: First off, I gotta give G.Skill Customer support props for awesome customer service. They answered my questions and were very friendly, good job guys, you've earned my business. Memory modules look great on my ASUS Maximus VI Formula mobo with the red and black color scheme. The heat sinks look pretty cool too. They were easy to overclock in UEFI to 2400Mhz.

Cons: No complaints yet

Other Thoughts: Like I said, I am giving G.Skill Customer Support a lot of props because they got back to me promptly and answered all my questions without any hesitation.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Memory

Pros: Finally able to run 4 DIMMS @ 2400 on my Asus Formula-Z. Haven't played around too much but I was able to clock up to 2456 before my PSU took a !@#$%.

@1.7v they weren't too hot.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If you've been waiting to run your Formula-Z with 4 DIMMS @ 2400...that's worth the price alone.

5 out of 5 eggsGorgeous, quality RAM

Pros: They run at the advertised speeds with default timings and voltage without issue. They were Memtest86+ error-free and Prime95 stable for a full 24 hours. The heat spreaders aren't just for show as they actually do seem to make a difference in temperatures. They're gorgeous and have a nice heft to them; very solid.

Cons: As of now, none.

Other Thoughts: Some people would argue that 2400 MHz is pointless, but hey, if your motherboard/CPU can handle it and they're don't cost too much more, why not?
