It's Not the Fastest, Until It's TridentX!

Memory Frequency World Record at DDR3 4404MHz

Memory Frequency World Record at DDR3 4404MHz
Breaking the highest DDR3 speed world record at a staggering 4404MHz in 2013, G.SKILL TridentX series is known as the world's most powerful and fastest DDR3 memory available on the market. Named after the powerful weapon of Poseidon, Greek God of the Seas, G.SKILL TridentX is imbued with extreme overclocking capabilities waiting to be unleashed in your system.

Features

Removable Heat Spreader Fin

The G.SKILL TridentX series features a removable heat spreader fin to improve your cooling options. With the heat spreader fin, the increased surface area keeps the memory cooler. Alternatively, with a system that already has a sufficient cooling solution, the fins can be removed to accommodate massive CPU coolers or other customized cooling solutions.

If you follow my posts on the forums, you'll find that I consider myself one of Corsair's biggest fans, but those feelings were thrown completely out of whack when I received this kit from G.Skill. The G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to completely amaze me with its quality and clocking ability, and I fell in love after checking its price. You cannot find a 4 x 4GB 2666MHz kit for less right now unless it's been put on sale. This kit manages to overcome any performance deficiencies with flexibility and great overhead. At stock, I managed to beat out my trusty Corsair Dominator Platinum kit with a little bit of tweaking. Overclocked, the G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to go just as high without a boost in voltage. That is just outright fantastic.

G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit put on an impressive display of performance, easily overcoming the competition in all but four of the benchmarks used. Unfortunately, the memory was bottlenecked by the processor -- limiting the overclock to a 104 bclk and leaving us with a final overclock of 2218MHz and timings of 10-12-12-31 2T. Paired with a 3rd generation Intel processor, G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit would have benefited greatly from the increased bandwidth and has the potential to hit 2500MHz with some fine tuning.

Gold Award at OverClockersClub

G.Skill's Trident X line-up comes with kits that range from the 2400MHz kit we are looking at to a 2800MHz kit for massive memory speeds and the associated bandwidth that is a hallmark of higher speed bins. It seems that G.Skill is most definitely targeting the budget overclocker with this set of Trident X modules. A $99 price tag for 2400MHz-rated modules is a welcome sight after seeing huge price tags just a few months back for cas8 and 9 modules binned above 2133MHz. The Trident X are modules that perform well and deliver some overhead for a little bit more tweaking and come with G.Skill's lifetime warranty. Excellent looks aside, the Trident X would make a good addition to any system and have the flexibility to be cooled in multiple ways.

5 out of 5 eggswicked looking ram

Pros: Overclockable beyond XMP profile
XMP Profiles
Awesome look and feel

Cons: None.
Seriously, none!

Other Thoughts: These little things are HEAVY due to the massive aluminum heatsinks on top, which, by the way, are removable. They run cool, and extremely fast.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent RAM!

Pros: This is the first time I have tried any other brand of RAM other than Corsair. I thought I would give the G.Skill brand a try - and I was not disappointed. Runs at specified frequency when using the XMP profile in your BIOS. Great value, great performance - highly recommended.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I order to reach it's rated frequency speed of 2400, you'll need to enable XMP in your BIOS.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Great for overclocking. I don't have it tuned up a whole lot but it's completely stable and cool. If I want to increase the speed more I can without worry. Just buy it.

Cons: None. Maybe not quite as dirt cheap as off brands? Price is solid so not even a con...

Pros: Fast. Red. Stable. Inexpensive.

Cons: Large.Tall...with a Maximus VII Hero motherboard and CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Evo will get in the way of using second bank of memory slots without moving fan up the cooler or mounting fan on the other side of cooler.

Other Thoughts: These are Large memory sticks.Make sure that they will fit with your components before you buy,

4 out of 5 eggsLow Latency, Performs as Advertised

Pros: Low latency, sturdy, looks like something out of Tranformers, performs as advertised. Good price for what you are getting.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: As with any ram, remember to look up the timings and set them manually in your bios for the appropriate speed.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great memory kit here everyone. Picked up on my Z87 Asus mainboard without any issues and the timings posed no problems either. Price was fantastic, thanks Newegg, and even living in hot Aussie conditions I haven't had any issues. Love the colour scheme too

Cons: If any, the heatsink can be a little sharp edged causing some discomfort if you remove frequently

3 out of 5 eggsANOTHER G.Skill product that has failed

Pros: Works most of the time. I'm able to game and go about most tasks without interruptions.

Cons: Getting BSOD errors, mostly when waking from sleep, but also when using the web browser.

Other Thoughts: Memtest86 shows only about 6 errors, however this is enough to give me headaches. I keep having trouble with this company's products, and their website doesn't have anything useful other than a forum. Learned my lesson. Not buying from G.Skill after this. I see other users are posting reviews with the same BSOD when waking from sleep.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

Contact us directly or post your problem somewhere on the internet or forum and we will find and help you. This is an extreme performance memory kit. It is absolutely necessary to manually configure settings in BIOS/EFI or enable the XMP/DOCP performance profile. In addition, not all motherboards and CPUs are capable of DDR3-2400, so additional tweaks may be necessary. Since not all users are overclockers or have extensive experience, GSkill offers full technical support for this high end RAM, but we need users to let us know so we can help and provide the necessary details for your particular system. If you believe a module may be defective, test one stick at a time to see if one performs differently. Also, make sure you have the latest BIOS/EFI for the motherboard. This is one of the top memory kits on the market so with the proper configuration, you can expect nothing less than great.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Memory

Pros: Runs stable at rated speed and timings on ASRock Z75. Runs stable at command rate 1.

Upgrading from 8gb RipJaws 2133 CL 12..

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Not waiting for DDR4, doesn't look like its much of an upgrade from DDR3 in the benchmarks that are even possible considering there aren't any boards yet released that can use both.
