Features

Removable Heat Spreader Fin

The G.SKILL TridentX series features a removable heat spreader fin to improve your cooling options. With the heat spreader fin, the increased surface area keeps the memory cooler. Alternatively, with a system that already has a sufficient cooling solution, the fins can be removed to accommodate massive CPU coolers or other customized cooling solutions.

If you follow my posts on the forums, you'll find that I consider myself one of Corsair's biggest fans, but those feelings were thrown completely out of whack when I received this kit from G.Skill. The G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to completely amaze me with its quality and clocking ability, and I fell in love after checking its price. You cannot find a 4 x 4GB 2666MHz kit for less right now unless it's been put on sale. This kit manages to overcome any performance deficiencies with flexibility and great overhead. At stock, I managed to beat out my trusty Corsair Dominator Platinum kit with a little bit of tweaking. Overclocked, the G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to go just as high without a boost in voltage. That is just outright fantastic.

G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit put on an impressive display of performance, easily overcoming the competition in all but four of the benchmarks used. Unfortunately, the memory was bottlenecked by the processor -- limiting the overclock to a 104 bclk and leaving us with a final overclock of 2218MHz and timings of 10-12-12-31 2T. Paired with a 3rd generation Intel processor, G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit would have benefited greatly from the increased bandwidth and has the potential to hit 2500MHz with some fine tuning.

Gold Award at OverClockersClub

G.Skill's Trident X line-up comes with kits that range from the 2400MHz kit we are looking at to a 2800MHz kit for massive memory speeds and the associated bandwidth that is a hallmark of higher speed bins. It seems that G.Skill is most definitely targeting the budget overclocker with this set of Trident X modules. A $99 price tag for 2400MHz-rated modules is a welcome sight after seeing huge price tags just a few months back for cas8 and 9 modules binned above 2133MHz. The Trident X are modules that perform well and deliver some overhead for a little bit more tweaking and come with G.Skill's lifetime warranty. Excellent looks aside, the Trident X would make a good addition to any system and have the flexibility to be cooled in multiple ways.

5 out of 5 eggsNice stuff!

Pros: Good looking fast affordable and adaptable

Cons: Uber tiny screws

Other Thoughts: Loved the ability to remove the heat sink on the memory for fit issues with some cooling pieces for processers

5 out of 5 eggsLives up to expectations

Pros: Performs as advertised. Runs stock at 2400mhz with XMP enabled. Ran a memtest and it came up clean.

Cons: Doesn't come in 16gb sticks :(

Other Thoughts: I definitely noticed a significant increase in system performance after upgrading from standard 1600mhz ram. System just feels all around snappier. For just $10-$15 more than 16gb of 1600mhz ram, I'd even go as far to say you're wasting your money if you choose anything other than this set right here.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter now than in November 2013

Pros: Booted up right away on my motherboard without doing anything fancy except resetting to default CMOS settings.
Set it to XMP #2 and it immediately OC'd to 2400 MHz without a hiccup giving it a 7.9 WEI, now it's just my CPU that's stuck at 7.7 the rest of the system is max Windows 7 score.
Using the Newegg's Will Call function my order was ready in less than 3 hours!!! Great job on that and I love the new side office rather than the back factory room.
This is only the second RAM kit I've ever bought online that didn't have some kind of problem and sent back. Obviously quality control has gotten better as of late. (Thankfully) Needless to say I was quite pleased as I was sure I would have to RMA them for a proper working set but that was a chance I was willing to take and quite glad/lucky it worked out this time around.
My CPU was able to OC 100 MHz higher than in the past comfortably, which isn't much, but it's still an improvement with these chips.

Cons: I'm glad I bought the item when it was $20 cheaper a few days ago than it is now. Most people don't realize that faster RAM generally won't improve your noticeable system performance for Overclocking. I laugh at some of the prices out there, especially for certain DDR4 kits and won't be going to that platform any time soon hence this investment. At the time of purchase, less than a week ago, this kit was the best bang for the buck in my humble opinion.

Other Thoughts: I originally purchased this RAM kit in November of 2013 and wrote a review on it then which was less favourable than this one. Before making this purchase Gskill posted a guide on their forum that might have helped me should I have had any issues getting the rated settings on the RAM which probably was the deal maker. That and the fact I was ready to RMA the kit to the Gskill factory and not Newegg this time around. (Glad I didn't have to and these chips were perfect right out of the package) I love Gskill's lifetime warranty and customer support. It's not hard to see why they are considered the number one RAM vendor out there.

5 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Perfect over a year and no problems runs cool and looks cool

Cons: Not free

If your using an AMD board you're going to have trouble getting 2400 out of it that's not the Ram though that's the CPU. Just fair warning you'll have to play with the OC a lot to get the 2400 on an AMD board. Not sure how intels do with this

5 out of 5 eggsFlies

Pros: >Combined< with Intel 4790k on ASUS Maximus VII mobo it's much quicker than the 2nd Gen equivalent i7 with 1600mhz version cards I replaced. Superb combo.

Runs cool at stock. One day I'll toy with OC'ing these but my PC runs so smoothly I see no reason to do so aside to say I have!

Cons: Had to tweak the Maximus VII's bios to force it to run at stock speed - although, that's more of a con on the mobo than on these cards.

Other Thoughts: Put a price watch on these, the prices fluctuate more than the US $ against the Russian Rubel!

5 out of 5 eggsEasy and Effective

Pros: I used these in a gaming PC I built. Very easy to install and worked right from the get go as advertised. I was planning to go up to 32GB but may hold off because my computer has been running everything I've thrown at it without issue.

Cons: I haven't taken an egg of but something to consider is the MB you're using. I didn't pay attention and noticed that my MB will only run this memory at the higher speeds if I OC it. So far I haven't done that because I haven't had any issues, but it's something to consider. In theory I could have spent a little less money and be getting the same performance. Again, that's my bad on the MB, no fault of the RAM.

Other Thoughts: The appearance is flashy and eye catching, if that's what you're looking for.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works

Cons: its native 1333MHz ram*,
*JDEC 666MHz, 9,9,9,tRAS 24, tRC33

Other Thoughts: Wish it was native 1600MHz RAM, timing wont tighten above 1333MHz

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Ram

Pros: Very fast Ram for the price - I got it for $134.99 during Newegg's Black Friday deal. I'm very happy with the performance! I previously had the G.Skill DDR3 1600 kit clocked at 2133MHz and loved them! Every G.Skill ram kit I purchase always clocks to the next MHz setting, but with these sticks....

Cons: I wasn't able to overclock these sticks like I hoped. To get them to the next 2600MHz speed, I had to up the timings quite a bit and they still struggled. I not going to knock off an egg because they don't overclock like I expected, and they work flawlessly at their rated speed.

Other Thoughts: Great ram - I cannot say one bad thing about G.Skill. I use them exclusively in all my builds - I don't even look at the competition. They are that good of a company and product! I highly recommend this product to anyone...
