Memory Frequency World Record at DDR3 4404MHz
Breaking the highest DDR3 speed world record at a staggering 4404MHz in 2013, G.SKILL TridentX series is known as the world's most powerful and fastest DDR3 memory available on the market. Named after the powerful weapon of Poseidon, Greek God of the Seas, G.SKILL TridentX is imbued with extreme overclocking capabilities waiting to be unleashed in your system.

Features

Removable Heat Spreader Fin

The G.SKILL TridentX series features a removable heat spreader fin to improve your cooling options. With the heat spreader fin, the increased surface area keeps the memory cooler. Alternatively, with a system that already has a sufficient cooling solution, the fins can be removed to accommodate massive CPU coolers or other customized cooling solutions.

If you follow my posts on the forums, you'll find that I consider myself one of Corsair's biggest fans, but those feelings were thrown completely out of whack when I received this kit from G.Skill. The G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to completely amaze me with its quality and clocking ability, and I fell in love after checking its price. You cannot find a 4 x 4GB 2666MHz kit for less right now unless it's been put on sale. This kit manages to overcome any performance deficiencies with flexibility and great overhead. At stock, I managed to beat out my trusty Corsair Dominator Platinum kit with a little bit of tweaking. Overclocked, the G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to go just as high without a boost in voltage. That is just outright fantastic.

G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit put on an impressive display of performance, easily overcoming the competition in all but four of the benchmarks used. Unfortunately, the memory was bottlenecked by the processor -- limiting the overclock to a 104 bclk and leaving us with a final overclock of 2218MHz and timings of 10-12-12-31 2T. Paired with a 3rd generation Intel processor, G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit would have benefited greatly from the increased bandwidth and has the potential to hit 2500MHz with some fine tuning.

Gold Award at OverClockersClub

G.Skill's Trident X line-up comes with kits that range from the 2400MHz kit we are looking at to a 2800MHz kit for massive memory speeds and the associated bandwidth that is a hallmark of higher speed bins. It seems that G.Skill is most definitely targeting the budget overclocker with this set of Trident X modules. A $99 price tag for 2400MHz-rated modules is a welcome sight after seeing huge price tags just a few months back for cas8 and 9 modules binned above 2133MHz. The Trident X are modules that perform well and deliver some overhead for a little bit more tweaking and come with G.Skill's lifetime warranty. Excellent looks aside, the Trident X would make a good addition to any system and have the flexibility to be cooled in multiple ways.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat RAM

Pros: - Well crafted and great looking RAM!
- Entered BIOS and set to XMP 1, loaded the 2400Mhz settings with no issues.
- Heat spreaders are removable if needed.

Cons: Only a semi-con. The heat spreaders are quite tall so make sure you have room in your case for them depending on your cooling setup. Nice thing is you can remove the spreaders is needed!

Other Thoughts: Increased benchmark in Intel Extreme Tuning Utility by 80 pts compared to 1866Mhz settings.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Fast & good timings (10-12-12-31)

Cons: Heat Spreader 'may' interfere with some coolers, although they can be removed for a lower profile

Other Thoughts: They're G.Skill, you can't go wrong

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: RAM was detected with no issues, was perfectly compatible with my mobo as G Skill advertised, performance as advertised

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I'm by no means a super overclocking, benchmarking speed freak. So I haven't tweaked the hell out of timings to squeeze every ounce of performance out of these, or anything like that

5 out of 5 eggsSmoking fast

Pros: It is Gskill, so I know that it is dependable. I just upgraded from a 16gb kit of Ripjaws X that I had for four years. The memory is blazing fast ,has beautiful heat spreaders, and was easily detected with no issues on my Asus Z97 Pro Gamer.

Cons: No cons as of right now

5 out of 5 eggsTrident X

Pros: Good looking memory with its billet aluminum heat spreader and nice red color. Timings are good and they don't get hot at all. With the XMP profiles they were a breeze to set up and get running.

Cons: Really none to speak of

Other Thoughts: I've had many ram types and G skill are always the best looking as well and reliable

4 out of 5 eggsA Solid Purchase

Pros: Solid RAM. I've never been disappointed with anything from G.SKILL and still have no reason to complain.

Cons: Packaging arrived damaged. Neither of the memory sticks had moved within the packaging, but the bottom of the plastic covering had broken open along the bottom. It didn't look like anything had been damaged on the memory itself, so I ran a MemTest to be sure, and everything is working just fine.

Other Thoughts: Even when the packaging is damaged, G.SKILL finds a way to make me give a good review. Touche.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear the memory arrived and is working well in your system. Memtest86+ is definitely the go-to software to determine whether the modules contain any errors. If they are error free, they should work without a problem. With a supported motherboard and capable CPU, enable XMP/DOCP in BIOS and the RAM can run at full speed. This is one of the best memory kits on the market. It can unleash the full processing power of any CPU on the market, including Intel Extreme and AMD Black Series CPUs. Especially for the price, there is nothing better. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsFAST

Pros: switched from 1600mhz 9clk ram to this and my benchmarks increased by ~11.5% with no other changes to system. very impressive. no fitment problems for me since I'm using water cooling. booted up first try in xmp profile @2400mhz

Cons: I guess being a little pricey is a "con" but you gotta pay to play
