G.SKILL Trident X Series
Overview
It's Not the Fastest, Until It's TridentX!
Memory Frequency World Record at DDR3 4404MHz
TridentXBreaking the highest DDR3 speed world record at a staggering 4404MHz in 2013, the G.SKILL TridentX series is known as the world's most powerful and fastest DDR3 memory available on the market. Named after the powerful weapon of Poseidon, Greek God of the Seas, G.SKILL TridentX is imbued with extreme overclocking capabilities waiting to be unleashed in your system.
Removable Heat Spreader Fin
The G.SKILL TridentX series features a removable heat spreader fin to improve your cooling options. With the heat spreader fin, the increased surface area keeps the memory cooler. Alternatively, with a system that already has a sufficient cooling solution, the fins can be removed to accommodate massive CPU coolers or other customized cooling solutions.

The G.SKILL TridentX heat-spreader comes with removable top fin design. It allows overclocking enthusiasts to have more flexible options of memory cooling systems, as well as to reduce the height to fit with large CPU coolers.
G.SKILL Trident X Series

Extreme Performance
Extreme overclockers and PC enthusiasts look no further, G.SKILL's TridentX DDR3 memory will push your system to an unimaginable limit. Not only available at ultra-high frequencies of 2400MHz, 2600MHz, 2666MHz, 2800MHz and 3000MHz, but also available with extremely low timings at 2133MHz CL9, 1866MHz CL8, and 1600MHz CL7!
Intel XMP Support
TridentX All G.SKILL DDR3 memory comes with the latest Intel XMP standard developed for the Intel platform. It provides PC enthusiasts an entirely trouble-free overclocking experience to boost their 4th Gen Intel® Core™ processors with Intel 8 series systems for extreme levels of performance, while retaining system stability.

5 out of 5 eggsFrom an overclocker... awesome

Pros: Where to begin... alright so I got this kit initially because I got it as a matching pair for a kit that came with my mobo I got online.. returned the mobo and the ram with it sadly but kept the kit from newegg. THANKFULLY I didn't return it. I know the 2400 MHz kit can overclock to 2600 MHz at the same timings basically so if you want a deal go for that one but if you want raw performance.. this kit or the 2800 MHz kit is what you want. I got this running with my Hawell (@4.626 GHz @ 1.534 V) at 2666MHz CL10-11-12-26-1T with a refresh of 180! ... it took a pounding at 1.95V but shoot was it amazing. Mem Tweakit score of 108,880 which is 2nd place on the scoreboard for Haswell dual channel ram scores. It can literally do whatever you want it to do.Buy it and don't look back.

Cons: I couldnt get it stable above 2800MHz but I'll be honest.. I didn't try hard since I didn't want to sacrifice CPU frequency. I might look back and wish I got the 16GB 2400 MHz kit instead since I usually run it at 2400 MHz anyway but... C'est la vie. I had a heck of a time overclocking it and got the kit for 20 bucks off so whatever.

Other Thoughts: Want a killer, fair priced ram kit get the 2x8 GB 2400MHz kit. Balls to the walls? Get this one. Most games and programs never even touch 8GB. If I run BF3, autocad and photoshop then I guess I'd be pushing it but I could just load some of the texture processing to my GPUs and boom I need 3 people on my keyboard to work everything open. Did I mention they are sexy? I have a ram cooler over them which sucks but without it.. pure awesomeness on my M6E. And if you think I am made of cash.. no. I am 22, a student and am just smart with money. It isn't impossible to afford

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: Looks pretty
Low profile

Cons: Dead upon arrival

Other Thoughts: Don't waste your time with this ram, as previous reviewers have stated, it most likely will not work. There is a reason it is bundled free with certain motherboards

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

You may have reviewed the wrong product. Please double check and repost if necessary. The G.Skill Trident X series is one of the top memory kits on the market. Each kit is hand picked, assembled, and tested for the best quality available. As with any G.Skill memory kit, if you do receive a bad module, send it in for RMA exchange and a new kit is guaranteed to work better. This RAM is definitely not bundled free, it is extreme speed DDR3-2600, and can only be used with certain motherboards and CPUs. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

Thank you

3 out of 5 eggsAdvertised speed is misleading

Pros: Blazing speed, fan looks cool in my blue liquid cooled rig. It works great, with a significant caveat (See below).

Cons: Cost: This RAM costs 2x as much as the 2400MHz rated model, and while I was happy to splurge on it at the time, learning that it does not actually reach the advertised speeds is pretty upsetting.

Advertised speed is misleading: It does not overclock to the advertised speeds with my i5-3570K. I contacted G Skill, and was told that it would only reach these speeds with the 3770k. I was very disappointed, as I could have purchased 2400 MHz ram for half the cost. As gaming rigs don't benefit much from hyperthreading, I think this is a situation many users may find themselves in.

Other Thoughts: The RAM works, but it's significantly overpriced, and frankly, I feel cheated. I took a risk and bought G. Skill because of the insane advertised speed, but I'll be going back to Corsair RAM from now on.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you are having issues reaching the rated specifications of the memory. The memory does reach the advertised speeds if you have a CPU that can support it. The memory controller is embedded in the CPU, so the actual memory speed may vary due to the overclocking margin of the CPU. With an Intel i7-3770K CPU, you will have absolutely no issues. This is currently the only LGA 1155 CPU tested to be fully capable of this memory kit. With any other CPU, it is not guaranteed. All G.Skill memory products are strictly tested and guaranteed to operate at the rated specifications. This is a top-of-the-line kit, so the price reflects the rare chip quality. Many world class overclockers are able to achieve DDR3-3000+ with this kit, which can not be attained with simply any memory kit. Since your CPU can not support the high frequency, you can lower frequency and timings to achieve similar performance. This memory will still outperform with lower settings, the RAM cost directly reflects chip performance. Should you have any further questions or issues, please don't hesitate to contact us directly.

4 out of 5 eggsOxymoron 2 ?

Pros: Look nice without the fans and I have not yet booted up the thing.

Cons: They are advertised as being for the Z77 Platform but, maybe not for P8Z77-V-Deluxe by ASUS. I found that the G.SKILL fan mount cannot be installed correctly when using the 3.0 header. There isn't enough room for the mount to sit squarely on the ram dimms. If I'm wrong please help!!!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. This memory kit is indeed compatible with your ASUS Z77 motherboard. Trident X extreme DDR3-2600 is one of the best kits currently offered on the market. You will be very pleased with the performance results. We are aware of the memory fan fitment issue, some adjustments may be necessary to make it stable. If you have any further questions or issues, please feel free to contact us directly.

3 out of 5 eggsOxymoron?

Pros: Speed! Fast ram and reasonably priced for it.

Cons: 1.65v

It says made for Z77 but is rated for 1.65v which Intel CLEARLY states is a no-no and highly recommends against it for Ivy Bridge (even for Sandy bridge for that matter)

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We can certainly clarify the confusion you may have. Intel does NOT support overclocking, so DDR3-1600 is the maximum frequency they suggest. As a result, DRAM Voltage is also limited at 1.50V (standard). This memory kit is clearly not average, or standard, so of course it will not follow Intel's guidelines. As you know, Intel has had this DDR3 limitation for Sandybridge and chipsets prior, so it is nothing new. If you do a quick search for performance DDR3 memory, everything is above 1.50V. Rarely is <1.50V memory considered high performance.

G.Skill produces the best (extreme) memory modules available on the market. Rest assured that the kits are tested for their specific platforms. With the proper settings, although much greater than Intel specifications, it will not harm your CPU. Similar to CPU frequency overclocking, 4.6GHz+ from 3.8GHz default (turbo) is common, but technically Intel does not support it. If you want to follow Intel and the standards, you will need to purchase DDR3-1600 CL11 or under.
