Features

Removable Heat Spreader Fin

The G.SKILL TridentX series features a removable heat spreader fin to improve your cooling options. With the heat spreader fin, the increased surface area keeps the memory cooler. Alternatively, with a system that already has a sufficient cooling solution, the fins can be removed to accommodate massive CPU coolers or other customized cooling solutions.

If you follow my posts on the forums, you'll find that I consider myself one of Corsair's biggest fans, but those feelings were thrown completely out of whack when I received this kit from G.Skill. The G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to completely amaze me with its quality and clocking ability, and I fell in love after checking its price. You cannot find a 4 x 4GB 2666MHz kit for less right now unless it's been put on sale. This kit manages to overcome any performance deficiencies with flexibility and great overhead. At stock, I managed to beat out my trusty Corsair Dominator Platinum kit with a little bit of tweaking. Overclocked, the G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to go just as high without a boost in voltage. That is just outright fantastic.

G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit put on an impressive display of performance, easily overcoming the competition in all but four of the benchmarks used. Unfortunately, the memory was bottlenecked by the processor -- limiting the overclock to a 104 bclk and leaving us with a final overclock of 2218MHz and timings of 10-12-12-31 2T. Paired with a 3rd generation Intel processor, G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit would have benefited greatly from the increased bandwidth and has the potential to hit 2500MHz with some fine tuning.

Gold Award at OverClockersClub

Gold Award at OverClockersClub

G.Skill's Trident X line-up comes with kits that range from the 2400MHz kit we are looking at to a 2800MHz kit for massive memory speeds and the associated bandwidth that is a hallmark of higher speed bins. It seems that G.Skill is most definitely targeting the budget overclocker with this set of Trident X modules. A $99 price tag for 2400MHz-rated modules is a welcome sight after seeing huge price tags just a few months back for cas8 and 9 modules binned above 2133MHz. The Trident X are modules that perform well and deliver some overhead for a little bit more tweaking and come with G.Skill's lifetime warranty. Excellent looks aside, the Trident X would make a good addition to any system and have the flexibility to be cooled in multiple ways.

3 out of 5 eggsquad channel

Pros: Have not got the ram yet

Cons: Have not got the ram yet
But it should have 2 Fans
3 eggs because of the FANS ,,,,

Other Thoughts: I am thinking about purchasing some G. skill memory such as these ,,, how ever with a 2011 MOBO quad channel ,, why do you only have on fan for 4 sticks that are split 2 on a side which would require 2 fans
Thanks

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

This is a quad channel memory kit because it includes 4 modules, but it is technically designed for full slots with a dual channel motherboard (Z77, Z87). It can work with a LGA 2011 motherboard, but the extreme frequency can only be reached by select CPUs. Either way, the memory fans are not absolutely necessary. Even at DDR3-2600 CL10 1.65V, this memory kit will run extremely cool with the G.Skill Trident X series heat spreader design. It is the best memory kit on the market, so you will be very pleased with the result. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

1 out of 5 eggsUnstable over 2133

Pros: pretty good tech support

Cons: This is an update to my earlier review. I thought that the RAM was stable, but further testing proved it was not stable. I installed this RAM on my Asus P8Z77 WS. I could not get it stable over 2133. And 2133 required Vccsa of 1.20V, which is remarkably high. No combo could get it prime95 stable over 2133. Could boot to 2600, but that was all.

Other Thoughts: RMAed and got 32 GB of Trident X at 2400 (F3-2400C10Q-32GTX) for almost the same price. Performance difference is undetectable and I get 2X the RAM. The key: The 32GB is stable at 2400 using <1V on Vccsa and no tweaking at all. Given that 32 GB of 2400 Trident X RAM worked at 2400 and 16 GB of 2600 RAM was stuck at 2133 on the same board, the 2600 was clearly defective.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear the memory is slightly unstable. This is one of the top kits available on the market. It is an extreme performance memory kit that is pushing the limits of hardware. Keep in mind that Intel states CPUs will only support DDR3-1600 CL11, so for DDR3-2600 CL10, 1000MHz higher and a lower timing, it will surely need a boost to the memory controller voltage (VCCSA). In addition, most CPUs will not support it, currently only the latest i7-3770K and Extreme Ivy Bridge CPUs have shown to be mostly capable of this specification. In the future, if you encounter stability issues, please contact us directly for assistance. The G.Skill technical support team will make sure the memory is working fast and stable in your computer.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: this is 1600 mhz ddr3 ram.

Cons: The ram says its good up to 2600 mhz, but that simply isnt true. I loaded the XMP profile and the system would not start no matter what I tried. I managed to get it running @ 2200 mhz stable, but no higher.

Other Thoughts: Included fan is noisy and does not fit between ram and 1st pci slot.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you are having issues with this extreme memory kit. The rated specifications are only guaranteed for the motherboards on our qualified motherboards list (QML).

http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=519

Please make sure you have one of the listed motherboards, otherwise, be prepared to manually input DRAM settings. Note, XMP profiles will only work for motherboards on the QML list. Only the motherboards on the QML list have been tested and proven to accept this extreme memory kit. For motherboards not on the list, a BIOS revision may be necessary to reach the memory's rated specifications. With a proper hardware combination, you should have absolutely no issues operating 16GB @ DDR3-2600 CL10. For any further questions or issues, please feel free to contact us directly.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: XMP Profiles work correctly and memory runs at 2600MHz without any issue on an ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe.

Cons: Cost but you already knew that.

Other Thoughts: Received a 7.9 score on the Windows Experience Index.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great at 2600

Pros: Works perfectly and is stable at the rated speed of 2600 in my Asus P8Z77 WS + 3770K.
Great tech support. Called their voice line and got a tech instantly who got me going in the right direction.
Built-in XMP Profile for 2600 works, no tweaking required.
Looks great with the heat spreader; fan has blue LED.

Cons: The included fan set is the loudest in my case at the moment. The fan has a molex connector and speed is not adjustable.

Other Thoughts: To get it to run above 2000, I had to increase Vccsa to 1.25. Also had to increase Vcore on the CPU to 1.20. These were Q&D settings and lower values may work. YMMV.
