5 out of 5 eggsBetter than advertised.

This review is from: G.SKILL 64GB Secure Digital Extended Capacity (SDXC) Flash Card Model FF-SDXC64GN-U1

Pros: Sequential reads and writes are 20 MB/s and 10 MB/s respectively, and writes improve about 35% if requests are queued. (Reads don't care.) Random I/O (4k) is 4 to 4.5 MB/s for reads, and a disappointing 0.6 to 0.7 MB/s for writes. However, this seems to be the nature of SD, as even the "fast" ones really suffer on random writes. This is actually not as bad as some.

The price was great, and the capacity is wonderful. If used for media storage and the like, not for programs and swap (for which SD is inherently poorly suited), the performance is more than acceptable for the advertised speed grade – in fact you'll get just about double the rated speed.

Cons: Uh, let's see... there was only one in the package? ;) Seriously, I don't have any complaints.

Other Thoughts: It's not the fastest SD card out there, but it's actually much better than I expected for a simple Class 10/U1. For price per gigabyte, it's really hard to beat. If you can find a secondhand SSD and have a SATA port and drive bay free, you may want to do that instead, as the performance will be much better – but if you need to expand the storage of a laptop that already has a small drive, this will fit the bill nicely.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value for its capacity/speed

This review is from: G.SKILL 64GB Secure Digital Extended Capacity (SDXC) Flash Card Model FF-SDXC64GN-U1

Pros: - Great value.

Cons: - None so far.

Other Thoughts: - Go pop over to Staples or Best Buy or wherever and see what they're charging for a 64gb Class 10 SDXC card and then come back and realize $40 is a steal.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good, but used?!

This review is from: G.SKILL 64GB Secure Digital Extended Capacity (SDXC) Flash Card Model FF-SDXC64GN-U1

Pros: Fast, cheap, and high capacity.

964 picture capacity on Nikon D610 saving RAW + Normal quality JPEG (1:8 compression).
5.4K (5400-5499) picture capacity on Nikon D610 saving only Normal quality JPEG (1:8 compression).

Cons: Both of the cards I purchased appear to have been previously used.

There is sticker on the packaging to hold it shut, but it is easy to peal off without damage, so there is no way to know if what you purchased has been used. In my case, it was quite obvious, however, because both had data on them!

The first had a strange version of CrystalDiskMark (folder called "CrystalDiskMark00D8E764"), and reported 4gb of 59gb used.

The second had no files visible in Windows, but reported 3gb of 59gb used.

When mounted on Windows, both reported that they had been dismounted incorrectly and should be repaired. After snooping around to look for where the used space was, I formatted both. The first formatted without issue, while the second reported an error formatting the first time, but succeeded on the second attempt. Both had to be reformatted in the camera, and neither had a problem.

I will be using these in "Backup" mode on my camera for a while to make sure they function correctly.

Other Thoughts: Using a UtechSmart USB 3.0 reader (Newegg part number 9SIA2690RG7534), connected to a USB 3.0 port, I tested both cards:

The first::

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
CrystalDiskMark 3.0.2 x64 (C) 2007-2013 hiyohiyo
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
* MB/s = 1,000,000 byte/s [SATA/300 = 300,000,000 byte/s]

Sequential Read : 59.359 MB/s
Sequential Write : 32.135 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 55.243 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 4.704 MB/s

Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 0.880 MB/s [ 214.9 IOPS]
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 7.177 MB/s [ 1752.1 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 1.184 MB/s [ 289.1 IOPS]

OS : Windows 7 Professional SP1 [6.1 Build 7601] (x64)

and the second (same settings as above):

Sequential Read : 55.058 MB/s
Sequential Write : 34.318 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 51.426 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 4.628 MB/s

Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 0.828 MB/s [ 202.2 IOPS]
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 6.964 MB/s [ 1700.3 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 1.150 MB/s [ 280.8 IOPS]

Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear the memory cards are working well with your digital camera. It is very strange if the cards were not RAW, and clear of any data. If you would like, send them in directly to us (G.Skill) for RMA exchange and you should get a perfect product. Unfortunately, we can not control third party handling, but you are backed by a lifetime warranty so either way you can always have a brand new product in your hands. This is a high speed, high capacity SDXC memory card so you should be very pleased with the result. It is a great fit for HD cameras such as your Nikon D610. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsOver a year ago and still happy

This review is from: G.SKILL 64GB Secure Digital Extended Capacity (SDXC) Flash Card Model FF-SDXC64GN-U1

Pros: Last year I purchased this SDXC card from NewEgg, In that year, I've taken thousands of photos and so far this card has been fantastic.

It may not be THE fastest card available in 2013, but it is fast enough to handle all the video, stills and even used it to try Ubuntu.

I've used it to record Blue Ray disks for temporary storage and not one problem. I take it everywhere and it is used almost every day with constant writes and reads with no problems.

Cons: No cons. OK, one. The price is lower since I got it over a year ago. Such is life with technology!

Other Thoughts: For the price, which dropped by $20 since I bought it, it is a no brainer.

I use it as a temporary storage device and for my video, point and shoot and DSLR cameras.

It gets used a lot and it has handled it all as GSkill is the company I only use for my memory needs.

I run GSkill DDR3 memory in my desktop and am very happy with GSkill products.

1 out of 5 eggsMy first ever bad review

This review is from: G.SKILL 64GB Secure Digital Extended Capacity (SDXC) Flash Card Model FF-SDXC64GN-U1

Pros: Looked great

Cons: When I opened the package, the word "defective" was already written on the back of the card in pencil. Very disappointing.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

Glad to hear you think the memory looks great. It is very strange you received a disappointing card. If the flash card in fact had such markings on it, it was surely not direct from G.Skill. G.Skill does no such markings, so it must have been tampered by a third party. As long as the card is not damaged, send it in directly to G.Skill for RMA exchange and you will see the difference of a perfect product direct from G.Skill. Each G.Skill product is 100% brand new, and passes the most rigorous testing to ensure quality control. With a new G.Skill 64GB SDXC card, it should work great in any device that can support it. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.
