1 out of 5 eggsOk memory, if you want slow speeds

Pros: Nice look. Lower profile than some other sticks from same brand.

Cons: Does not run at specified speeds. I should have heeded other reviewers comments. The fastest stable speed I can achieve is a default PC3-10700 (667mhz) as reported by CPU-Z. I am running a well seasoned chipset. (AMD 990fx on the Gigabyte GA-990FX-Gaming mobo) There should be ZERO problems out of the box. I understand that these are overclocked sticks, but they should at least be DDR3-1600 chips not DDR3-1333 imho

Other Thoughts: I have played with my bios time and time again trying to manually dial these in, to no avail. The ONLY settings that work are the default, slower speeds. Instead of "upgrading" my existing sticks, I took a hit and actually degraded performance. I purchased these chips over the DDR3-1600 sticks I already had so that I could double my total memory size (I was running 2, 4gb sticks), big mistake. I have been a long time G.Skill user, this has shaken my confidence.

Hi Michael

Glad to hear you like the appearance of the Sniper Series RAM. It is one of the most popular on NewEgg. Each G.Skill memory kit is guaranteed to operate at the rated specifications. If you ever have any problem, please contact us directly and we will be glad to help. The fastest stable speed you are able to achieve is default because you are looking at a value that does not change. "Max bandwidth" and everything in the SPD tab of CPU-z are not not actual operating values. They will not change; you can try DDR3-1066 or 800 and it will still show PC3-10700 (667MHz) because that is not the active operating frequency of the RAM. The "Max Bandwidth" displays the maximum value the RAM can boot up as with AUTO default settings. So with no changes in BIOS/EFI, it will only be recognized as DDR3-1333 CL9 1.50V. To enable the performance values of the RAM, DDR3-1866 CL10 1.50V, XMP Profile must be enabled or manual settings need to be input with a supported motherboard. This is true for any RAM or motherboard. The purpose of DDR3-1333 is so the RAM can work in any DDR3 computer. If the frequency was DDR3-1600, the RAM may not work in older systems that can not boot up at DDR3-1600. In any case, it is no difference to you as you plan to use this RAM at DDR3-1866. You will need to configure settings based on CPU model, and once that is complete, the system can run flawlessly at full speed. Please refer to the link below for instructions. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

5 out of 5 eggsFast RAM kit!

Pros: - 1866 MHz
- The price was great at sixty five dollars
-Easy install and with the GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD5 R5 motherboard being used, getting the full speed was as easy as choosing XMP profile 2

Cons: - None that I could detect

Other Thoughts: - I would recommend these to anyone needing DDR3 that has a motherboard that supports the speed of this RAM kit, or someone who wants to underclock them and tighten up the timings.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: None

Cons: Plugged both sticks in and my computer just stalls at boot.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We will be glad to help with this issue. It is unlikely both modules are completely dead. There are many possible causes for a system that does not boot. First, make sure you have the latest BIOS for the motherboard. Test one stick of memory at a time to see if one performs differently. If both modules have the same exact result, it may be a defective motherboard. Double check complete installation to confirm there is no over sight. If a module is performing differently than the other, send them in for RMA exchange and a new kit should work flawlessly. For all further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let us know. We will make sure 16GB of G.Skill RAM is operating at maximum performance in your computer.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good ram and fast!

Pros: -Fast ram 1866Mhz! AMD FX-8350!
-Reduced stuttering and improved smoothness (slightly) in games at 1080p Form a single 4GB dimm at 1333Mhz
-Easy to set speeds in motherboard. If not using XMP, set manually to 1866Mhz as it won't start at the speed marketed.
-They barely produce heat.

Cons: -Had to manually put the speeds in BIOS, but it was very easy.
-One dimm came with a very little misalignment in the heatsink, but it is functional and well and still looks good.

Other Thoughts: -Always check that the dimms run at stock speeds.
