Features

Removable Heat Spreader Fin

The G.SKILL TridentX series features a removable heat spreader fin to improve your cooling options. With the heat spreader fin, the increased surface area keeps the memory cooler. Alternatively, with a system that already has a sufficient cooling solution, the fins can be removed to accommodate massive CPU coolers or other customized cooling solutions.

If you follow my posts on the forums, you'll find that I consider myself one of Corsair's biggest fans, but those feelings were thrown completely out of whack when I received this kit from G.Skill. The G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to completely amaze me with its quality and clocking ability, and I fell in love after checking its price. You cannot find a 4 x 4GB 2666MHz kit for less right now unless it's been put on sale. This kit manages to overcome any performance deficiencies with flexibility and great overhead. At stock, I managed to beat out my trusty Corsair Dominator Platinum kit with a little bit of tweaking. Overclocked, the G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to go just as high without a boost in voltage. That is just outright fantastic.

G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit put on an impressive display of performance, easily overcoming the competition in all but four of the benchmarks used. Unfortunately, the memory was bottlenecked by the processor -- limiting the overclock to a 104 bclk and leaving us with a final overclock of 2218MHz and timings of 10-12-12-31 2T. Paired with a 3rd generation Intel processor, G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit would have benefited greatly from the increased bandwidth and has the potential to hit 2500MHz with some fine tuning.

Gold Award at OverClockersClub

Gold Award at OverClockersClub

G.Skill's Trident X line-up comes with kits that range from the 2400MHz kit we are looking at to a 2800MHz kit for massive memory speeds and the associated bandwidth that is a hallmark of higher speed bins. It seems that G.Skill is most definitely targeting the budget overclocker with this set of Trident X modules. A $99 price tag for 2400MHz-rated modules is a welcome sight after seeing huge price tags just a few months back for cas8 and 9 modules binned above 2133MHz. The Trident X are modules that perform well and deliver some overhead for a little bit more tweaking and come with G.Skill's lifetime warranty. Excellent looks aside, the Trident X would make a good addition to any system and have the flexibility to be cooled in multiple ways.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor write performance

Pros: Got a decent price for the 16gb kit

Cons: I removed a 32gb set of GSkill 1866 C8-9-9-24 memory and replaced them with 2 sets of these 2133 C9-11-11-31 kits. Memtest performed flawlessly with no errors after 5 passes. Checking the throughput with AIDA64 the read speed increased substantially from 52738 MB/s to 57785 MB/s. The write speed however dropped dramatically from 52669 MB/s to a dismal 39897 MB/s. What a heart breaker this set is. A lot of money wasted. First GSkill memory that disappointed me.

Other Thoughts: Installed on an MSI X79A-GD45 Plus MB with an i7-4930K clocked to 4.4ghz.

Dear Customer

Glad to hear you got a decent price on this memory kit. It is strange the write performance decreased compared to a DDR3-1866 kit. This should not happen, some timings adjustments may have been necessary to optimize performance. Make sure you have the latest BIOS for the motherboard as that can improve AUTO configuration by the BIOS. In the future, please feel free to contact us directly if you have any questions or issues. We will make sure G.Skill RAM is operating at maximum performance in your computer.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsYep, BEST RAM as far as I can tell.

Pros: 1) Looks great (bonus points if your going for red build).
2) Heat sinks are soild and hefty.
3) Heat sinks also removable to convert it into low profile memory for people with clearence issues with CPU air coolers.
4) Performs as rated Mhz.
5) Fully passed with 0 errors on all 44 Memtest86 tests (nearly 6 hour RAM testing software).
6) Unbeatable warranty.
7) Works great with XMP profiles.

Cons: None that I have encountered.

Other Thoughts: G.Skill keep up the good work! Initially only bought 16GB because I didn't think I would need more, but once I saw how RAMDisk allocation speeds up certain apps and games (and even a whole Windows OS to those who know how to achieve such a thing), I won't go anywhere else for my next 2x 8GBs to fill up the 2 remaining slots on my motherboard.

5 out of 5 eggsVery, Very Good RAM

Pros: Fast and high density. 24 hours and 12 passes in memtest with zero errors. I have bought many kits from G.Skill, on Newegg and elsewhere, and only had one bad stick, which was promptly replaced.

Cons: the logo sticker seems a little cheap and cheesy, I prefer the raised metal, silver style they've done on other models. this complaint is completely superficial, meaningless and the only one I have.

5 out of 5 eggsNIce Memory

Pros: Not much to say about these, plug them in and they work as expected. Easy to overclock within reason and have a nice look if that matters to you.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent choice

Pros: Paired this memory with a MSI FM2 board and an A10-5800K for a new home server. Runs perfectly flawless at 2133 CAS 9 speed. The MSI board allows Intel XMP selection with 2 profiles. Ran MEMTEST 5.01 for 10 passes and no errors. Very nice. The removable cooling fin is a plus if interference with the heat sink becomes an issue.

Cons: None, works perfectly as advertised.

Other Thoughts: Since this is going to be integral with my home server I have no plans to overclock them. Quite pleased with this set. I have purchased G.Skill over many years and find they worked in every system I've built without issues. Thanks for another great set. I'm running a 32GB set of 1866 CAS 8 GTX's in my ASUS FX8350 computer and they are still perfect after 2 + years.

5 out of 5 eggsBlazing Fast

Pros: I was looking for RAM that would be fast. I considered a lot of things, and decided to go with this set. You get what you pay for. I am very pleased with my purchase.

-Durable
-Was easy to install, just push into mobo, and good to go.
-I had to configure it to 2133, but no biggie; just mobo defaulted for stability while I was setting up.
-They are very well made, and I didn’t feel like I would break them just by picking them up.
-I find them to be very aesthetically pleasing.
-The performance is outstanding for me, and I want to buy another set just because.

Cons: There's nothing negative for me to say.

3 out of 5 eggswhats the deal?

Pros: works, kinda
slick look

Cons: doesnt want to run at 2133 on my asus impact vi, even tried to use the XMP in bios and it works for a while, then crashes my system to where i need to hit clr cmos to get it to boot, i donno what the deal is, but im running it at 1600 right now and it seems fine. even tried using the exact timing and voltage it was specified for.

Manufacturer Response:
