5 out of 5 eggsG.Skill Sniper 1866

Pros: I got 1 set because I wasn’t sure if I would need 16 or 32GB. It’s installed on a computer running an AMD FX-8350 with an Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0 board. I am running the Adobe 2014 suit and the highest usage I’ve seen is just under 9GB while rendering out video files from Encoder or Premier. I did have some memory errors initially but now that all of the drivers are updated there isn’t a problem.

Pros: fast ram

Cons: defective after about a week of use.

Dear Customer

Glad to hear the memory works fast in your system. This memory kit is above standard, so make sure to configure settings in BIOS/EFI. Without doing so, it is possible for the RAM to corrupt over time. If you need assistance with this, contact the G.Skill technical support team directly and they will be glad to help. For RMA, if you experience a problem with the form, email the RMA dept. directly and they can assist you. G.Skill support can also be reached via telephone and forum, so there are many ways to get in contact with us if one avenue is not working for you.

Thank you

1 out of 5 eggsGSkill Sniper RAM

Pros: None

Cons: Does not work with the AS Rock Fatalty Z97X Killer MB

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you had such issues. The RAM is compatible with that motherboard. Please test one module at a time in the initial slot to see if the system can boot. If one module boots and the other does not, it is a defective stick of RAM. If neither modules boots up, it may be a defective motherboard. Double check installation and if you continue to have a problem, replace the necessary parts and that should solve the issue. For any further questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact the G.Skill support team directly. We are here to help and make sure your computer is fast and stable with our products.

3 out of 5 eggs1 works 1 doesn't

Pros: The one that works is good

Cons: Second Stick won't POST and I have to return both for RMA just to hopefully get 2 that work this is silly lookout for paired items like this now I will have like a week or two of no system which is silly.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We can take care of this issue right away. For high performance memory modules like DDR3-1866, it is imperative to keep the RAM as a matched pair. In some cases, a mis-matched pair may not perform as well. The G.Skill RMA process is quick and hassle free, so rest assured your computer will be up to full speed in no time. Visit the G.Skill website for complete RMA procedure. With a new kit, configure the settings in BIOS, or enable XMP/DOCP profile, and your system should run fast and stable. If you have any issues or questions, please feel free to contact us directly. We will make sure G.Skill RAM is working flawlessly in your computer.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat RAM for the price

Pros: -Low $/GB ratio
-Works as advertised

Cons: No 4x8GB package available

Other Thoughts: This was for a home CentOS KVM build and I needed a lot of RAM that ran at board speeds for a decent price. Managed to pick up 2 of these for ~$280, which made it one of the cheapest 32GB options at 1866 for the time.
Detected, ran as advertised with no issue.

Server setup for those playing at home:
AMD FX-8320 with stock cooler (for now)
Biostar TA970
Samsung 840 Pro 128GB boot drive / high speed VM option
WD 2TB Green for standard VM storage.
Repurposed Corsair HX500 PSU
Repurposed Gigabyte 5770 1GB card(for HDMI out, gross overkill)

5 out of 5 eggsRead your UEFI/BIOS settings on 1866

Pros: Meets all proclaimed capacities

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: People are complaining that this doesn't run at 1866.
False

``Support for Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) memory modules''

You have to enable XMP support in your UEFI/BIOS.

Enabled in the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 version 3.0 from experience jumps the 1600Mhz to 1866Mhz.

All boards that support 1866Mhz or higher must have XMP enabled to surpass 1600Mhz.

Stop posting useless reviews when you technically don't understand what you are reviewing.

3 out of 5 eggsRAM

Pros: Gigabyte P67A-UD4-B3 motherboard posts with this RAM.

Cons: Does not run at advertised speed/timing/voltage.

The RAM I received will only run at 1600 MHz 9-9-8-24 @ 1.5 volts

Other Thoughts: Not sure if it's defective or false advertising from G.SKILL, either way it's too big a hassle to return.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We will be glad to help with this. This memory kit can run at the advertised specifications, but it is up to the user to enable those values. With a capable CPU, enable XMP Profile in BIOS and the system should run at full speed. You can also manually input the basic DRAM values to achieve the same result. If you need any assistance with this, please feel free to contact us directly. We will make sure 16GB of DDR3-1866 is working fast and stable in your computer.

5 out of 5 eggsGood quality memory

Pros: The memory works just great, clocks in at the right speed and everything seems good. What's more it doesn't have a huge massive heatsink that will interfere with some CPU fan/heatsinks out there. It does have a heatsink, but the size is a lot more reasonable than some of the monstrosities you see out there.

The black heatsink also works well in my case with a black CPU fan and a dark grey motherboard.

Cons: None really.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!!

Pros: -No issues reported with memtest software

-Fast and 16 gigs

Once its set on the bios (automatically with XMP profile) and passed memtest, thats all you need.

Cons: -None so far

Other Thoughts: 16 gigs is overkill, however, expect ram usage to increase in the following years. When I'm gaming, using voice chat, and lots of other software in the background, I usually go over the 8 gigs threshold.
