5 out of 5 eggsWorking as advertised

Pros: Memory is working as advertised for my Mac Mini 2012.

Cons: Package was decent, but for the premium we pay for the Mac version of this memory, a nicer box, with little better protection would be a plus. Just to be clear, the packaging is decent, but not on par with higher end (often related to gaming) memory. I'm obviously splitting hairs, but thought I'd say it anyway.

Other Thoughts: I very rarely buy memory that are "specifically" design for mac, because that's often basic marketing strategy to make us pay more. I usually check what spec my Mac needs, and buy the cheapest offer that meet those criteria (not always the absolute cheapest, but you get the point).
This time, since I read so many report on memory not working on Mac mini even though they should have (correct latency and all), I decided to put more money and go for a tested kit for my machine.
Installed them in my Mini 2012 and it's running absolutely fine for now. Did some early test to "challenge" the ram and nothing to report so far. I will update if I experience freeze or similar stuff.

3 out of 5 eggsCheck compatibility

Pros: Good price, easy install, simple packaging

Cons: Not compatible as advertised

Other Thoughts: This would probably be a great product, but I failed to realize that it will not work in 13- and 15-inch mid-2012 MacBook Pro laptops, as per this article:

http://support.apple.com/kb/SP649

I figured as I was shopping for this, and as the manufacturer advertised and labeled their packages as such, that it would work flawlessly. However, those models can only accept 4GB of compatible RAM in each slot. Bottom line, be aware of what your computer can handle before you buy.

Lucky for me, Newegg was super-quick and easy for getting me a refund.

Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you were unable to get the memory working in your mid-2012 Apple MacBook Pro. The memory can be compatible, but you need to upgrade to the latest EFI firmware. Updates are commonly released to solve issues, and in this particular case, the laptop was initially designed for 8GB while the hardware was capable of 16GB, so an upgrade was later released to better support and improve memory compatibility. Once you do that, this memory kit will work without a problem. In the future, if you have any issues or questions, please feel free to contact us directly. The G.Skill support team is readily available to assist you with any problems like this or of G.Skill brand.

1 out of 5 eggsCaused immediate system instability

Pros: Good price - generally I love GSkill memory... first time I've had trouble with it.

Cons: Crashed my system within minutes. Verified most recent EFI, swapped DIMM slots, reseated RAM, all with no success. Requesting RMA. Was there a bad batch of RAM from the January 2013 run?

Other Thoughts: Should've heeded the other reviews... hoping replacement fixes the issue... would really love to run this thing with more than 4GB.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you had such issues. If you have a 2012 Apple computer, it should work fine with this memory kit. You can test each module individually to see if one may be bad causing problems. If so, send it in for RMA exchange and a replacement should work better. There has been no bad batches for this model, so that is not in question. Should problem persist, please contact the G.Skill support team directly. They can troubleshoot the issue and make sure you have maximum memory capacity in your system.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for Me

Pros: Easy to install in my MacBook Pro mid 2012. Shows up at 16 mb. Even though Apple says 8 max

Cons: Nothing, no problems

Other Thoughts: Seems to work well and quite easy to install for the novice. Get the right screwdriver for removing the bottom.

3 out of 5 eggsInconsistent Quality

Pros: Works great when it works at all. Of the two sets I bought, one is working fine, with an in-use load of 12GB for probably a whole week

Cons: The other set I bought would reboot randomly. The AHT extended test failed after 4 minutes, consistently. I didn't try individual DIMMs because I didn't want to have the machine open more than was necessary.

Other Thoughts: I've RMA'd the bad set, which was easy (though it costs $10 to ship: c'est la vie).

At the price, you might as well buy two pair and be prepared to return one of them.

2 out of 5 eggscheap 16gb

Pros: cheap 16gb ram

Cons: Put them both together and after a minute of use my mac froze.

So i installed memtest on my mac and run the test on one by one module... Turned out that one of the modules is bad... Gonna request replacement from newegg because I just got it today so let's hope that the next batch is good.

Other Thoughts: My Mid-2012 macbook pro would be happier with the 16GB ram but one of the modules was bad so I will be stuck with 4gb for few more days until i get my replacement

3 out of 5 eggsUnsure

Pros: A great upgrade from the default RAM my 2011 MBP came with!

Cons: Might be flakey—seeking confirmation elsewhere.

Other Thoughts: Installed and booted up with no issues, even when I tested the capacity and got 15GB of RAM wired to active applications. However, a few days later my (early 2011 i7) MBP had a fatal error and restarted for the first time ever. It's happened several times now, each in different circumstances (high/low CPU stress and varied temperatures) and the only connection I can make is the RAM, but it did pass two different memtests I put it through perfectly. If anyone else has this issue, I'd recommend returning the product.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear the memory is not working properly. Please make sure you have the latest EFI for the Apple MBP. Commonly, updates are released to improve memory compatibility. The 2012 MacBook Pro was the first model to offiicially support 16GB of DDR3-1600, but many have found 2011 models to be capable as well. With the latest EFI, this memory should work just fine. Also, when running a memory test, make sure to test modules individually. Memory diagnostics tools are only designed for testing a single module, so you may have inaccurate results if multiple modules are installed. For any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us directly.
