G.SKILL Trident X Series
Gaming Memory Modules

Overview
It's Not the Fastest Until It's TridentX!
Memory Frequency World Record at DDR3 4404MHz
Breaking the highest DDR3 speed world record at a staggering 4404MHz in 2013, G.SKILL TridentX series is known as the world's most powerful and fastest DDR3 memory available on the market. Named after the powerful weapon of Poseidon, Greek God of the Seas, G.SKILL TridentX is imbued with extreme overclocking capabilities waiting to be unleashed in your system.
Removable Heat Spreader Fin
The G.SKILL TridentX series features a removable heat spreader fin to improve your cooling options. With the heat spreader fin, the increased surface area keeps the memory cooler. Alternatively, with a system that already has a sufficient cooling solution, the fins can be removed to accommodate massive CPU coolers or other customized cooling solutions.

G.SKILL TridentX heat-spreader comes with removable top fin design. It allows overclocking enthusiasts to have more flexible options of memory cooling systems, as well as to reduce the height to fit with large CPU coolers.

Extreme Performance
Extreme overclockers and PC enthusiasts look no further, G.SKILL's TridentX DDR3 memory will push your system to an unimaginable limit. Not only available at ultra high frequencies of 2400MHz, 2600MHz, 2666MHz, 2800MHz and 3000MHz, but also available with extremely low timings at 2133MHz CL9, 1866MHz CL8, and 1600MHz CL7!
Intel XMP Support
All G.SKILL DDR3 memory come with the latest Intel XMP standard developed for Intel platform. It provides PC enthusiasts an entirely trouble free overclocking experience to boost their 4th Gen Intel® Core™ processors with Intel 8 series systems for extreme levels of performance, while retaining system stability.

Lifetime Warranty
All G.SKILL memory products come with a lifetime warranty and the G.SKILL technical team is always ready to provide consumers with complete technical support via online forums, telephone, and email.

If you follow my posts on the forums, you'll find that I consider myself one of Corsair's biggest fans, but those feelings were thrown completely out of whack when I received this kit from G.Skill. The G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to completely amaze me with its quality and clocking ability, and I fell in love after checking its price. You cannot find a 4X 4GB 2666MHz kit for less right now unless it's been put on sale. This kit manages to overcome any performance deficiencies with flexibility and great overhead. At stock, I managed to beat out my trusty Corsair Dominator Platinum kit with a little bit of tweaking. Overclocked, the G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to go just as high without a boost in voltage. That is just outright fantastic.

G. Skill's 2400MHz TridentX kit put on an impressive display of performance, easily overcoming the competition in all but four of the benchmarks used. Unfortunately the memory was bottlenecked by the processor, limiting the overclock to a 104 bclk and leaving us with a final overclock of 2218MHz and timings of 10-12-12-31 2T. Paired with a 3rd generation Intel processor, G. Skill's 2400MHz Trident X kit would have benefited greatly from the increased bandwidth and has the potential to hit 2500MHz with some fine tuning.

Gold Award at OverClockersClub
G.Skill's Trident X line-up comes with kits that range from the 2400MHz kit we are looking at to a 2800MHz kit for massive memory speeds and the associated bandwidth that is a hallmark of higher speed bins. It seems that G.Skill is most definitely targeting the budget overclocker with this set of Trident X modules. A $99 price tag for 2400MHz-rated modules is a welcome sight after seeing huge price tags just a few months back for cas8 and 9 modules binned above 2133MHz. The Trident X are modules that perform well and deliver some overhead for a little bit more tweaking and come with G.Skill's lifetime warranty. Excellent looks aside, the Trident X would make a good addition to any system and have the flexibility to be cooled in multiple ways.

5 out of 5 eggsGood RAM

Pros: Low CAS latency. I was able to take the RAM up to 2400 easily. For how fast this RAM is rated to run and having a CAS latency of 9, very good.

Cons: None that I've seen so far, but I've only had these two dimms for a couple days. I've always bought g.skill however and have never had a problem with any of the RAM I've bought from them.

Other Thoughts: It comes with a kind of dinky little RAM fan. It didn't really fit well in my system because I only have 2 dimms, so I gave it to my little brother because he has triple channel ram and it fit MUCH better in his system, the RAM fan is cool but IMO kind of a more aesthetic choice, but I must admit it does make my brother's system look cooler (he has a windowed side panel). His only wish was that the led was blue instead of white, or at least red. As for the build quality of the fan, it seems sturdy enough, it's designed for you to bend the metal so it clamps on.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: High speed with low CAS latency
Versatile and effective heatspreader design
Aesthetically pleasing

Cons: None at this time

Other Thoughts: This memory is running on a ASUS Maximus VI Formula with a 4770k. XMP profiles worked perfect both at stock 4770k speeds and 4.6 GHz overclock. I was also able to set command rate to 1T without issue, no voltage or timing adjustments necessary.

The included fan is unnecessary for running at rated speeds. After a few hours of Memtest86+ the memory is barely even warm.

My system is watercooled so there were no clearance issues with the very tall heatspreaders. It's nice to have the option to remove them if I ever need to clear a more traditional heatsink.

I've used the Ripjaws X series on another build which is what influenced my purchase. That set's performance, build quality and value really impressed me. This Trident X set is even better. I've been using Corsair and Kingston for years but these two sets of G. Skill have won me over.

Getting my hands on this Trident X kit was a little challenging. I had to check the product listing multiple times a day for a couple of weeks. I was finally able to get them during the 1 hour window when they were actually in stock. I've found that Newegg's auto-notification emails can be a bit untimely. On multiple occasions I've received email notifications only to find the product is no longer in stock, or I've seen the product in stock but never got an email.

Anyway, I give this memory kit 5 eggs for performance, build quality and value.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat when not on Windows 8

Pros: Great memory, XMP profile works perfectly and sets it as advertised.

Cons: Didn't work for me with Windows 8. Not that I care, Windows 8 gave me a lot of issues with my previous memory.

2 out of 5 eggs1600MHz maybe

Pros: cheaper than other 2400MHz memory 9-11-11-31 is very tempting if you could make it work

Cons: I have x79 with 3820 cpu, it worked stable at low clock speed, 1600/1333MHz but it started crashing with memory dumps so I replaced it with different 2x2GB RAM and memory dumps stopped bothering me.
I RMA-ed gskill memory, their customer service was nice and fast but memory dumps errors came back with replacement memory at both 1866MHz and 2400 MHz. Overclocking tuning was done right the memory didn't and crashed both win7 and win8.

Other Thoughts: I got "burned", and I am going back to Corsair, they never failed me. I can't get my money back so I will be selling gskill and buying Corsair Vengeance Pro for my crossfire system.

Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you had such issues. If you are unable to get the memory to work properly, please contact the G.Skill support team for assistance. Representatives are available to help get the G.Skill RAM working fast and stable in your computer. With a compatible X79 and capable LGA 2011 CPU, the RAM should run flawlessly with outstanding results. The Intel core i7-3820 CPU may be capable of DDR3-2400, but it is not guaranteed. Only unlocked "K" and Extreme "X" series CPUs are fully guaranteed for DDR3-2400, so you will need one of those for reaching the maximum potential of this memory kit. To test this, try each module at DDR3-2133 with XMP enabled. This can help determine whether it is a CPU limitation, or if a module is not working to specification. If you continue to have problems, feel free to let us know and we can help directly.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsIt just does it

Pros: Set to run 2400MHz @ 9-11-11-31-1T @ 1.65 volts in BIOS
Ran single module at a time through Memtest 5.01. Passed 5 passes each. Not a single error.

What more can I say?

Cons: XMP is set to run a 2T CR but since it runs a 1T CR it's not really a con.

Other Thoughts: This is SDRAM sweetness. As advertised.
After I'm done overclocking the CPU and am confident of stability, I have a strong hunch I'll be able to goose the Trident modules a bit more. :)

4 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Fast, adjusted timings to 9.10.10.24.1N with AIDA latency bench mark of 41.78. Looks good and have no heat issues.

Cons: Fan kit is kinda silly feeling, doesn't really want to stay in place tightly, but I used it anyways.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear you were able to get the RAM configured properly and it is working fast. This is an extreme performance memory kit so you should be very pleased with the result. Paired with a good CPU, you have one of the fastest computers one can build. With regards to the memory fan, you should be able to get it to fit tightly over the memory slots. The memory cooler has been tested to reduce temperatures in the memory slots area by ~10 degrees F, so it is surely a useful product especially for overclocking situations. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat ram

Pros: Very fast ram with low latencies. I was able to run 2800 with 10-12-12-32 timings with 1.75v, though thats not a daily runable voltage I just did it for testing to see what they could do. With stock volts this ram will probably run 11-13-13-35 at 2800 speeds no problems, still very respectable timings for that speed and very overclockable ram.

Cons: Not that this is really a real con and certainly would never drop an egg for it but I was not able to achieve over 3000mhz no matter how much voltage or loose of timings I threw at it. I really only wanted to try it for bragging rights of running ram at 3000mhz lol.

Other Thoughts: Mostly only Haswell chips can run these kind of speeds without a large bump in the memory controller voltage (VTT) like you would have to do with Ivy and Sandy bridge chips. But my 4770k loves these sticks with a Gigabyte Z87x-UD4H board.
