Features

Removable Heat Spreader Fin

The G.SKILL TridentX series features a removable heat spreader fin to improve your cooling options. With the heat spreader fin, the increased surface area keeps the memory cooler. Alternatively, with a system that already has a sufficient cooling solution, the fins can be removed to accommodate massive CPU coolers or other customized cooling solutions.

If you follow my posts on the forums, you'll find that I consider myself one of Corsair's biggest fans, but those feelings were thrown completely out of whack when I received this kit from G.Skill. The G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to completely amaze me with its quality and clocking ability, and I fell in love after checking its price. You cannot find a 4 x 4GB 2666MHz kit for less right now unless it's been put on sale. This kit manages to overcome any performance deficiencies with flexibility and great overhead. At stock, I managed to beat out my trusty Corsair Dominator Platinum kit with a little bit of tweaking. Overclocked, the G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to go just as high without a boost in voltage. That is just outright fantastic.

G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit put on an impressive display of performance, easily overcoming the competition in all but four of the benchmarks used. Unfortunately, the memory was bottlenecked by the processor -- limiting the overclock to a 104 bclk and leaving us with a final overclock of 2218MHz and timings of 10-12-12-31 2T. Paired with a 3rd generation Intel processor, G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit would have benefited greatly from the increased bandwidth and has the potential to hit 2500MHz with some fine tuning.

G.Skill's Trident X line-up comes with kits that range from the 2400MHz kit we are looking at to a 2800MHz kit for massive memory speeds and the associated bandwidth that is a hallmark of higher speed bins. It seems that G.Skill is most definitely targeting the budget overclocker with this set of Trident X modules. A $99 price tag for 2400MHz-rated modules is a welcome sight after seeing huge price tags just a few months back for cas8 and 9 modules binned above 2133MHz. The Trident X are modules that perform well and deliver some overhead for a little bit more tweaking and come with G.Skill's lifetime warranty. Excellent looks aside, the Trident X would make a good addition to any system and have the flexibility to be cooled in multiple ways.

5 out of 5 eggsG.SKILL Trident X Series

Pros: Looks great and runs xmp straight out of the box. Originally these were meant for vanilla Ivy Bridge but since Ivy-E has an upgraded IMC over SB-E these work great. Have them running in quad channel on a Rampage IV Black Edition and a 4930k.

Price is amazing for the specs. If you increase the timings or increase voltage a higher clock speed can achieved.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Good ic's and an amazing price tag for enthusiast hardware. Heatsinks can be removed if wanting to watercool.

5 out of 5 eggsNot bad!

Pros: Works at rated speed right out of the box. Removable heatsink tops. I really like that since I didn't want to use the standard red and didn't want to take them off. I sandblasted the paint and now match my build theme perfectly. Can't say much about durability since I've only had them for a few days, but they feel solid. Finally I wanna say that price is unbeatable from other 2400 kits with 9 11 11 31 timings. I'm really happy with the price.
Comes with optional cooler. In my opinion, keep that cooler and make it less expensive.

Cons: Ugly Trident X Stickers. Color options. Reason why I was gonna do some Dominator Platinums was because of its stunning looks when matched with high end hardware. I suggest more color options or a more neutral color. To be fair, Red is an awesome color, but shouldn't be the only option. At this price, I'm not even gonna complain.

Other Thoughts: So far, I'm pretty happy. I have these on a Rampage IV Black Edition with a 4930K, I'm really happy to be running them at 2400mhz, right out of the box. Big jump from 1600mhz, even though I can only see the difference in benchmarks. Luckily I like running a lot of benchmarks to justify my upgrade.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Kit

Pros: Cheaper than other ram kits around its level, the corsair dominator plats. are roughly $150 more expensive just for the heatsink and corsair logo on them.

Overclockability, got mine running at 2800 with a few tweaks in the asus bios

double sided samsung IC's

look boss, removable heatsink fins if you are an air cooler, or dont like red.

Got mine running under water now with some EK dominator waterblocks, nice and cool.

c9 out of the box is nice for just $20 more over the c10 models.

gskill customer support is the best, i had another 32gb set of sniper series ram from gskill, had to rma it and had no problems with their rma service.

Cons: None that i can think of, little tinkering in the bios for an xmp profile and boom, runs at 2400 right out of the box.

Other Thoughts: In my opinion, the best ram choice right now for enthusiasts, overclockers or anyone in between.

5 out of 5 eggsNot compatible with ASUS X79 Deluxe MB

Pros: Great DIMMs, but not compatible with my Mobo....

No dings to G.Skill for my mistake however....I re-ordered compatible G.Skill DIMMs right off of the MoBo Certified Vendor List this time ;)

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsVery good RAM

Pros: - Excellent RAM, alt-tabbing is practically instant even with a good dozen of applications running and two games at the same time.
- Looks very good

Cons: - Didn't work at 2400 right out the box, had to overclock a little, but that's not a problem.
- Fan cooler is just for the looks...

Other Thoughts: When the delivery man showed up at my door, he accidentally dropped the package... I cringed, but it was so well-packed he could have thrown it to the ground and no scratches.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: - High Frequency, Low CAS
- Affordable
- Removable Sinks
- XMP profiles included
- Worked flawlessly with no tweaking

Cons: None that I can think of. These modules really don't need a heatsink or that little fan cooler that comes with it. Pretty gimmicky if you ask me, but considering how affordable the kit is you can't really complain for getting extras, even if they are just that, extraneous.

Other Thoughts: Worked like a charm on an ASRock Z87 Extreme 3 using the included XMP profile and 4770k. With the heatsinks removed this kit is compatible with the Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good speed and timings, can be undervolted, worked on stock vccsa.

Cons: They seem to have noticed people were getting 2666 c9 and tightened up their binning process. Can't get a single primary timing or speed bump to work regardless of volts or vccsa. On 3770k

Other Thoughts: Worth exactly their value, no "hidden gem" potential.

5 out of 5 eggsBest memory for X79 platform

Pros: Lowest latency you can get at DDR3-2400 (which is the practical max speed for Socket 2011 processors), and much cheaper than other kits with the same specs. Top fins are removable to fit under large CPU heatsinks. On Ivy Bridge these can do 2600 C10 on stock voltage.

Cons: None.
