3 out of 5 eggsFigured out the problem

Pros: pretty, probably excellent, sadly packaged with a combo that isn't compatible.

Cons: in a rare case of disappointment I got this as part of a combo deal from Newegg where it was paired with an AMD A10-7850K & an ASUS Crossblade Ranger, seemed an excellent combo and deal. Until I found the rub, it'll only post at 1600, the reason for this is it's not on the Qualified Vendor List for the Crossblade Ranger. To be a properly spec'ed combo it should've been paired not with a RipJaws series set that's apparently more spec'ed for intel offerings but with Trident X series Ram that IS on the QVL for the Crossblade. I contacted newegg as I'd planned on RMA'ing the part that's out of place and replacing it with the proper TridentX G.Skill RAM so my beautiful new box would post at 2400 as it should. Alas to do so I'd have to take the hit of losing the combo discount. Their chat rep basically said yeah that sucks, you should try selling it online. I've been a loyal Newegg'er for over 10 years now and this is the first time I'm genuinely disappointed in their service. I'm sure the Majority of the folks in these reviews have this same problem as it seems consistently a complaint. Would hope the RAM is EXCELLENT, though without running it at full speed how would I ever know. I guess I could tighten the timings as the price gap between 1600 & 2400 ripjaws isn't much. But I wanted the fastest ram I could get for my AMD APU, and it turns out this isn't it, or at least not with this board. In a perfect world maybe a BIOS update will fix this in the future.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We will be glad to help with this issue. The RAM is indeed compatible with that motherboard. Many memory kits that are compatible are not on the QVL because the manufacturer is unable to test and list every single model of RAM on the market. Combo deals are tested to work together, so you don't have to worry. Though the combo deal you purchased is no plug and play package, it is for overclockers and extreme gamers. First of all, the AMD A10-7850K CPU supports up to DDR3-2133 according to AMD. This is NOT native or the boot up value; in fact, DDR3 RAM has a maximum boot up value of DDR3-1600, which is why the system did not recognize any higher. In order to run at a higher frequency automatically, you must enable XMP/DOCP performance profile in BIOS/EFI. That will allow the motherboard to detect and configure the basic RAM settings. Now because the CPU supports up to DDR3-2133, additional tweaking is necessary to stabilize DDR3-2400. In addition to the memory profile, make sure to set and raise CPU-NB Voltage +0.1V to +0.15V. This will give the processor the necessary boost to stabilize the higher DRAM frequency. Once you input the settings properly, you will have a killer system and the APU will also run at maximum performance. Should you have any further questions or would like direct help settings this up, feel free to contact us directly via forum, email, telephone, and more so we can walk you through the necessary steps. With G.Skill, you can rest assured you have all the assistance you may need.

4 out of 5 eggsBIOS Sees it as 1600Mhz

Pros: Runs stable at 1600Mhz. Higher speeds???

Cons: BIOS sees it as 1600Mhz. My mobo supports 2400 (OC). When I first received the memory, I tried OCing to 2400 11-13-13-31, down to 1866 but had stability issues. Admittedly, some of these issue may have been mobo stability issues addressed by recent updates. I value stability over speed, so I haven't messed with the memory speed settings since.

Other Thoughts: I have an ASUS A88X-PRO motherboard with the latest BIOS revision as of 6/25/15. The SPD information is:
Manufacturer: G-Skill
Module Size: 4096MB
Maximum Bandwidth: 1600Mhz
Part Number: F3-2400C11-4GXM

Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. All high performance DDR3 memory kits will default to a standard value of DDR3-1600 CL11 or DDR3-1333 CL9. This allows the RAM to be compatible in any DDR3 computer. With a compatible motheboard and capable CPU, you may be able to achieve a higher frequency by manually inputting settings in BIOS. The memory controller is embedded within the CPU, so the maximum DRAM frequency is dependent on the CPU. To force the CPU to be capable at a higher frequency, one key adjustment you will need to make is the CPU-NB Voltage. Without adjusting this voltage, the CPU may only support up to DDR3-1600/1866. Adding voltage can help it support more stress/load while keeping the system stable. Should you need assistance with this or have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us directly.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Looks good, runs cool

Cons: it only runs at 1600. When I manually turn it up to 2400 my computer crashes and wont boot. When I enable XMP same thing, computer crashes and wont boot.

For that I cant justify giving this product more than 2 eggs.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

Glad to hear you think the memory looks good and runs cool in your system. The memory is rated and guaranteed to operate at DDR3-2400, but you also need a CPU that is capable and a motherboard that is compatible. Since you are having issues, test one module at a time to see if one performs differently. If both have the same result, check that you have the latest BIOS for the motherboard. Should the problem persist, contact the G.Skill support team directly and we can help troubleshoot and determine what may be causing the issue. This is a high performance memory kit that can perform extremely well in any new system.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect as usual from a G.Skill product

Pros: They're very fast and I got them on sale for $62. Very impressed with the performance.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I bought this kit for an APU build, and they make a huge difference with APU's. In my opinion, 2133MHz is the minimum speed you should use for an APU build, and 2400MHz is just an added bonus in speed for your system and gaming performance.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat RAM Great Price

Pros: Popped these in my new motherboard. Went into the bios and set it to the proper setting and these have been running as advertised quite nicely. The added heat sinks are a good quality as well

Cons: the heat sinks make these fairly tall. Make sure they will fit with Processor/heat sink combo will work with these.

5 out of 5 eggsLower clock next time

Pros: Fast. Nice appearance. Runs smooth.

Cons: XMP required. To use this (at 2400) with my i7 4790k I have to use XMP or extreme memory profile in BIOS. I seem to be having some stability issues when doing this. As the processor only recognizes DDR 3 1866. I feel like this should be announced in big bold letters on the product page. I did not knock an egg because it comes down to paying attention at the consumer end.

Other Thoughts: Playing BF4, Arma 3, and Sims 4 with this product on ultra settings with 0 issues. I would get the DDR3 1866 version, because I can't tell the difference when I underclock this down to that.
