5 out of 5 eggsGREAT!!!

Pros: Purchased one set and it was described as compatible with ECS Z87H3-A4 Ver(1.0). I only purchased 1 16GB set because the manufacturer mentioned that they had not tested with memory greater than 16 GB, installed and it worked flawlessly, in Bios set to defaaulr XMP profile and immediately running at 2400. Recently got the coupon for 10% off memory so I bought a second set to test. All 4 in place (32GB) Bios saw it with no issues, XMP at 2400, loaded win7 x64 and all is great. I would highly recommend this memory. Reasonable priced, great performance low profile and simply performs.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this, please check the G.Skill web page for compatibility information as they have a comprehensive list of compatible hardware.

5 out of 5 eggsG.SKILL Ares Series 16GB

Pros: What can I say...it's RAM.

Works great with the built in XMP profile and my ASUS Maximus HERO VI motherboard.

Cons: Could have been cheaper...but you pay for what you get.

Other Thoughts: Will be buying the another 16GB in a week or so! Empty RAM slots drive me mad!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks, and Fast

Pros: I checked the GSkill web page and it mentioned it was compatible with the ECS Z87H3-A4(1.0) MB. I bought and was pleasantly surprised that it too minimal effort to get them to run at 2400 in my system. Will get another set when I am lucky to find them on sale.

Cons: None. Still expensive and wish they go on sale.

Other Thoughts: These work great, no issues, easy to work with.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate to my review on 2/15

Pros: Works

Cons: Not working at 2400

Other Thoughts: Got this working at 2133 with the help of the pleasant Gskill tech support person I worked with. I would like it to work at 2400 using XMP but 2133 is good.

BTW, do these modules support AMP? I'm not an overclocker so setting timings and voltages is something I know little about so these settings profiles are important. I see an option for AMP in my BIOS but I don't see it mentioned on the memory.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear you were able to get the memory working well in your system. If the G.Skill Tech Support person was unable to help you reach DDR3-2400, most likely it was a limitation with your hardware. DDR3-2133 can be just as fast with lower timings, so the system should be configured optimally. For AMD systems, it is best to use manual settings, and don't forget to adjust CPU settings to stabilize extreme frequencies. For any questions or assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us directly. The G.Skill support team is readily available to help any one in need!

2 out of 5 eggsNot working at advertised speed

Pros: Decent price for 16GB
Fast (if it works)

Cons: Not working at advertised speed

Other Thoughts: Bought these to use in my new build with a Gigabyte
GA-F2A88XM-HD3 mobo and AMD A10-7850k CPU. Problem is PC won't boot with anything other than the default 1333 setting. First thing I did was Enable XMP but no boot. I tried playing around a little with other settings but bottom line was only 1333 would boot. Very upset since I know my APU will be impacted by this.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We can surely help you with this problem. XMP is for Intel platforms; for AMD, you will need to manually configure settings in BIOS. The AMD A10-7850K CPU is capable of DDR3-2133 max, so anything higher will require overclocking. In addition to the basic DRAM settings, you will need to increase the CPU/APU-NB Voltage to boost the memory controller. Once you input the necessary values, the memory will work flawlessly with your motherboard and CPU. Should you need direct assistance, please feel free to contact us directly.

5 out of 5 eggsBest in class and value for DDR3 2400

Pros: - Worked out of the box on my new ASUS-Z87 PRO Linux box
- With XMP set - bios identified it as faster memory and automatically increased frequency to 2400 MHz
- Price was lower than any other option (for this memory speed)
- Heat spreaders around the chips both physically protect the SIMM, and dissipate heat better and more uniformly
- Nice color
- Lower profile than similar product from G-Skill

Cons: none really.
Best memory I ever bought.

Other Thoughts: At the higher freq, voltage needed to maintain the higher speed jumps from 1.5V to 1.65V - can't have a free lunch.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what it says it will -- Right out of the box.

Pros: 1) 2400 DDR3 RAM,.. this exceeds even the 4th Gen Intel specs for supported Ram speeds by almost 1Ghz.

2) G.Skill -- Reliable company.

3.) Works out of the box. Especially if you are using an ASUS motherboard. There was no need to change voltage, clock speeds, etc. On first boot it reported as 2400, and is stable and performing as such.

4) Fast!

5) The heatspreaders are not TALL. While it is not advertised as Low-Profile RAM,.. it is below what most Ram sticks I've gotten that have Heat-Spreaders on them as far as height. So it's somewhere between say Low profile RAM and Corsair Vengeance RAM, in height.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: The price as of this writing is $149.99 -- For 16GB of RAM, 8GBx2.. This is very fair price. Remember this is 2400,.. Not 1333, 1600, etc.. It's fast!

RAM makes a difference,.. and while 16GB's may seem a touch "overkill" we are definitely heading in that direction of needing more RAM on systems. It isn't uncommon to see 6GB RAM (or more) in computer systems you see in regular retail stores.

No matter what you hear or read.. too "much" RAM is not a problem. Just make sure you have hardware and an Operating System that makes proper use of this large amount of RAM. IE: Do your homework.

At this point in time you can get away with 8GB just fine to do pretty much everything. If you want to future proof your rig a bit.. at this price.. 16GB of highspeed RAM from G.Skill is definitely not a "waste".

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with AMD

Pros: 1) Yes, the specs do say it's compatible with Intel, but their is some good news, these are also compatible with AMD, given you hve the right Mobo.

Even though my mobo "officially" only supports memory up to 1866 mz, I was able to get this up to 2332 with stock timings. It wouldn't boot up at 2400 but I tweaked it a lil bit. My settings are 18.00 x 219 (ithink). It's not the full 2400mhz, but I'll blame my mobo for that, then again, maybe I could get it that high with my current mobo, but I'm not skilled enough to try.

Using Crystal Disk64 here are my benchmarks. I have a 12gb Ramdisk set up

Crystal Disk Mark 3.0.1 x64

Crucial M4 512gb

Read/Write

Seq 472.9 / 259.0
512K 398.8 / 202.0
4K 16.79 / 12.53
4K QD32 132.6 / 12.47

Agility 3 240gb-

Seq 207.7 / 155.6
512K 195.8 / 142.5
4K 20.60 / 36.54
4K QD32 156.7 / 123.0

WD Raptor 600gb-

Seq 154.6 / 139.8
512K 64.35 / 91.02
4K 0.956 / 2.008
4K QD32 2.610 / 2.333

SKILL 2332 12gb Ramdisk-

SEQ 4226 / 5046
512K 3604 / 4442
4k 237.2 / 218.8
4k QD32 228.9 / 213.6

My benchmarks when I had my Crucia raml running at 1866 Seq was something like 3336 / 3800. I'm not exactly sure but it was around there.

2)I had a 15% off coupon so I got these pretty cheap, about $130 a set.

3) Fits underneath my massive Vigor Monsoon III cooler with ease.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I had 32 gb of Crucial Ballisix, but they weren't overclockable, or at least, they weren't stable above 1866mhz, but even then I frequently had crashes, so I decided to buy something that had a lil more "ooomph." I had nothing against crucial, but since my processor does work better with faster memory, and since I have a Ramdisk I felt the switch was worth it.

Ihave my temp, and tmp folders on my ramdisk, as well as my IE and Firefox temp folders saved to there as well.

My system is much more stable with this new memory. I'll just sell my old memory (four months old).
