5 out of 5 eggsCant go wrong

Pros: Plug'n'play into an older Gigibyte board with a x4 955, blue, 2400, overclockable, need i say more?

Cons: none so far.

Other Thoughts: Never had an issue with G.Skill ram, it seems to be very 'flexible' far as board/cpu combos. Overall quite happy with my purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsA fast memory kit can make a big difference in cpu bound sections of games

Pros: I have to say I'm extremely impressed by this memory kit. If you follow Digital Foundry's youtube channel they show just how much faster memory can help when cpu bound (see their i3-6100 reviews). Memory speed isn't going to offer much in the way of performance when you're gpu bound, but in games or sections of games that are heavy on cpu usage it absolutely can make a noticeable difference. I'm using this kit with a Xeon E3-1231v3 cpu, MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition board, and EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0 at 1080p. Using the XMP profile for 2400 MT/s at the advertised 11-13-13-31-2T timings I have found a very significant performance increase in GTA V. If I turn 2xMSAA on there was one place I could almost always guarantee a drop to 52 fps or so, and that is on the road near Mount Chiliad where there are lots of trees casting complex shadows, and it would do it any time of day with my CAS 11 DDR3-1600 kit I was previously using. Now with this kit of CAS 11 DDR3-2400 when I run those same settings the only time I can get my framerate to drop below 60 fps is near sunset when you have complex godrays coming through the trees in this area. But I only drop to around 57 fps instead of 52 fps (I also run the shadows at the Nvidia PCSS level and grass on Very High but not Ultra on my 970). People might say who cares about 5 fps, but it makes an enormous difference in GTA V. A drop to 57 fps is something I would likely not notice if I didn't have the fps overlay on, but a drop from 60 to 52 fps can be pretty jarring. That 5 fps is the difference between running 2xMSAA and instead just running FXAA for me, since I always want to be near 60 fps. Minimum framerates can be pretty important for smooth gameplay and all too often people only want to pay attention to average framerates.

On a side note, the kit looks great through the window of my case. I know it's not the big reason to buy a memory kit like this, but it's still nice. And RAM is so cheap right now (Dec 2015) that it makes sense to go for a really nice memory kit like this.

Cons: G.Skill's tech support told me I might need an overclockable processor to run fast RAM at full speed, but I figured what the heck and ordered it anyways since I have seen people run this kind of RAM full speed with much weaker CPUs than my E3-1231v3, I guess the silicon lottery applies to the memory controller on your cpu too, but it seems like my 1231v3 did pretty well (I also bought that from newegg). Note you'll need a Z-series or X-series chipset to overclock this RAM to its full DDR3-2400 speed if you're on Intel. I don't know much about using fast RAM with AMD other than I have heard it can be a pain sometimes. This RAM is too tall if you want to use a huge air cooler like a Noctua NH-D15 unless you want to move the first fan a few cm up. Perhaps the G.Skill ARES kits would be better if you have a cpu cooler like that.

Other Thoughts: I'd absolutely recommend this kit to other system builders using Z-series chipsets. For those using X-series I'd rather go with a 4x4GB kit for quad channel support. G.Skill memory always seems to perform really well for me, the price is outstanding, and you get a lifetime warranty. Their tech support is also quick to respond when you have questions.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid buy

Pros: Works great. Workhorse RAM that doesn't disappoint. With a SSD and a 3500Mhz processor it helps boot my computer in about 15 Seconds. No complaints there. I have only ever used about 50% of these in dual channel so 2 do great and 4 would be gravy.

Cons: None to report.

Other Thoughts: I wish there was a fan that I could buy to mount on somewhere to cool the fins. They do a great job, I just wish I could help them out.

3 out of 5 eggsLooks nice, works well, but isn't 2400mhz

Pros: It does its job and offers plenty of memory. Great for multitasking

Cons: It is advertised as 2400mhz but I can't get it to run over 1333mhz on my asrock extreme6 motherboard and putting that in the product title is very misleading.

Other Thoughts: Could find much cheaper ram at this speed

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Joshua

Glad to hear you think the memory looks nice and it is working well in your system. With 16GB, it is surely a sufficient amount of memory for the most intensive multi-tasking. Whether the system is used for gaming, video streaming, virtual machines, or more, everything can remain nice and smooth during simultaneous operation. The memory specifications are absolutely guaranteed, that is what you paid for so that is what you get. The motherboard you have is on the Qualified Vendors List for this RAM so it is certified compatible. The final link is the CPU and it must be capable of DDR3-2400 in order for this RAM to operate at maximum performance. An Intel processor ending in X or K is necessary for XMP overclocking and achieving an extreme frequency such as DDR3-2400. With all the proper hardware, this RAM will work flawlessly. If you have an X or K series CPU such as i7-4790K but still have an issue reaching the rated specifications, make sure you have the latest BIOS/UEFI for the motherboard. For all further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly. The G.Skill support team will make sure G.Skill RAM is fast and stable in your computer.

Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear this high performance memory kit is working well in your system. 1 out of 5 eggsWill Not Run at PC2400

Pros: Shows up in bios as dual chanel memory 16gb.
It did improve system performance.

Cons: Will not run at PC2400 speed, will only run at 2200 in bios settings and shows as 2088.

Other Thoughts: GSkill tech support did help, but recommended fixes did not work:

-udpating bios
-switching dimm slots
-adjusting bios timings XMP & manual settings and voltage

As a buyer I am dissapointed, and will choose other memory suppliers in the future.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Hi Douglas

Glad to hear the memory is running well in your system. The RAM is guaranteed at the rated specifications, so if you have a compatible motherboard and capable CPU, you should have no problem reaching DDR3-2400. If you are unsure, request the information for a G.Skill technician because there should be a clear reason why the RAM is not operating at full speed as it is designed. For all further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let us know.

2 out of 5 eggsSHOULD HAVE BEEN 5 EGGS

Pros: Improved performance. Eliminated a stutter effect during loads of large map areas. (yes I play computer games)

Showed up as 16gb dual channel memory in bios, after instalation. Timings as indicated on the memory.

Cons: Memory in bios registered as 1333. Entered 2400 speed in XMP settings, computer would not boot up.

Entered 1800 speed in XMP settings computer booted, but showed memory speed as 1733.

Upped XMP to 2133 and memory speed read 2066. Computer ran stable.

Other Thoughts: A bit dissapointed that the computer wont run the advertised memory speed of 2400, but I have not given up and I will try and manualy set up the RAM timings voltage for stable operation.

Pricepoint average no real advantage.

Improved performance noted for my system:

Core i7
Asrock z77 pro 3 motherboard
Nvidia GeForce 970 GPU
Western Digital HD 1TB 7200 rpm 64mb cache.
OS Windows 10

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Douglas

We will be glad to help with this issue. Sounds like BIOS/UEFI settings are not set properly. You may have enabled an auto-overclocking feature causing the frequency/multipliers to be different than default. Prior to making any changes, load BIOS defaults, make sure you have the latest BIOS version, enable XMP Profile, then everything should run at full speed granted you have a capable CPU. The RAM is guaranteed at the rated specifications so you can rest assured it is capable of DDR3-2400 CL11 1.65V. With 16GB of this memory, it can fully unleash the processing power of any CPU on the market, and therefore maximize the minimum FPS for the system. With a higher minimum FPS, gaming frame rates will never drop low enough to stutter. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.
