Step Up To Solid-State Speed with Force Series 3

One of the best PC performance investments you can make.

You'll be amazed at the improvement over traditional hard drive access times the first time you turn on your computer, and for virtually everything you do with your PC. System startup, game and application load times, file loading, data transfers, and even shutdown times are all faster.

Your system will be more responsive, and you'll be more productive.

Add up all the time you spend all day waiting for your computer — starting up, loading game levels, saving large files and documents, and just moving data around — and it can be significant.

Using a PC can be a lot more enjoyable when it's not always making you wait.

The power of SATA 3 6Gb/second performance

The SATA 3 connection on the Force Series 3 offers up to 6Gb/s speed vs. SATA 2 drives that top out at 3Gb/s.

Great for the latest high-performance PCs.

There's fast, and then there's fast. Force Series 3 SSDs have even quicker read and write times when they're installed in PCs that use the latest SATA 3 interface.

Compatible with SATA 2 3Gb/s.

Haven't yet moved to SATA 3? Like all Corsair components, Force Series 3 SSDs are designed to last through several system upgrades. Adding a Force Series 3 today means that you'll still get incredible storage performance now, and your SSD will be ready for your next upgrade.

Force Series 3: Get more for less.

Choosing a Force Series 3 SSD helps your computing budget go farther. Powered by the SandForce SF-2200 controller, they deliver outstanding SATA 3 6Gb/s performance, with prices that are comparable to lower-performance SATA 2 3Gb/s solid-state drives.

Corsair SSDs: Designed for Performance and Durability

Corsair SSDs are 2.5" wide, the same size as notebook hard drives. An adapter is included for mounting in standard desktop PC 3.5" drive bays.

TRIM Support

Force Series 3 SSDs feature support for the Windows® 7 TRIM command. This allows them to store only the data they need and perform memory optimization to ensure the fastest possible write speeds.

Reliability

Because SSDs have no moving parts, they can handle shock, vibration and temperature changes far in excess of traditional hard drives. That's important for desktop PCs, and essential for notebooks.

Cool and Quiet, with Low Power Consumption

Traditional mechanical hard drives spin at thousands of revolutions per minute. This takes power, and generates noise and heat. Since SSDs have no moving parts, there's no noise or vibration, and the lower power consumption helps keep things cool inside your PC.

3.5" adapter

The 2.5" form factor allows for installation in most notebook PCs with no adapter required. If you're adding a Force Series 3 SSD to your desktop PC, use the included 3.5" adapter to mount it in any standard hard drive bay.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat SSD

Pros: This SSD is the best one I have tried to date, I have tried OCZ and it was fine on my laptop, but for my desktop I wanted more space and hated the noise my old mechanical hard drives made.

Cons: The first one I got was DOA and RMA was great. The second one (currently in my system) was having the hang issue for the first few days, after getting all the updates it was only happening a few times a week. Eventually I figured out that restarting the drive caused the hang, and powering off the system then starting it basically fixed all problems for me. I am running it on a Sabertooth Z77 with an I7 3770k, Been running smooth for well over 3 months.

Other Thoughts: Despite the hang this drive had for the first few weeks, this drive is a great one for the price, especially since it dropped since I purchased it. I would recommend this SSD to anyone who knows about firmware updates, however don't update if you are not having any issues.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate: 5.0.3 Seems to have Fixed the Pausing

Pros: Corsair seems to have fixed the pausing with the release of 5.0.3

Cons: I had a lot of pausing with these 480GB SSDs. Since upgrading to 5.0.3 a week ago, I have not experienced the pausing.

Other Thoughts: This is my 3rd review of this product. I wish there was a way to edit my previous reviews.

1 out of 5 eggsUpdate to my Review

Pros: The CSSD-F480GB3-BK is fast when it's not stuck in a hung state.

Cons: Unfortunately, I just spent 15 minutes trying to get my laptop back and running because this drive was in a hung state.

Corsair will post their canned-reply to upgrade the firmware. Had they read the version I'm using, they would see that it's the same one they're trying to pawn off as a solution. It's NOT a solution and the intermittent pausing persists.

Other Thoughts: Corsair needs to step it up and create a permanent fix for this instead of their canned-responses to issues.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We're sorry you're having issues with the SSD, you are welcome to contact our Tech Support or post the Corsair Forum and we'll be more than happy to help you.

Thank you,
Corsair Customer Support

Pros: Very fast SSD (when it's working).

480 MB; D:\Test; 503316480 bytes; 2647 ms; 181.337 MB/s

Cons: Like someone else mentioned, this Corsair SSD stutters. It would freeze a few times an hour for about 10-20 seconds. I have two of the 480GB SSDs and they both do this. They are also on the latest 5.0.2.

Since NewEgg cannot swap these out for a different brand, I will have to purchase replacements myself.

In summary:
DO NOT BUY the Corsair SSD series until we get better answers from Corsair.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We're sorry to hear about the SSD causing issues. Please visit the Corsair website to download the latest firmware for this drive, this should solve the issue of "stuttering". If you have further questions feel free to contact our Tech Support or post on the Corsair Forum and we'll be more than happy to help you.

Thank you,

5 out of 5 eggsJust bought my second one...

Pros: Pretty significant amount of storage for an SSD. Relatively decent pricing.

Cons: Bit more expensive on newegg than other sites.

Other Thoughts: I'm running mine on my vmware esxi 5 whitebox... working great so far... just ordered another, which will take over as the main hdd on my personal computer. I bought from another site for 485, which is quite a bit lower than here.

5 out of 5 eggsFMS10 review sofar so good

Pros: I just bought and installed a Corsair Force Series 3 CSSD-F480GB3-BK 2.5" 480GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD).System found it no problems so far. Its 3 days and so far so good
migrated windows 7 to new ssd from an image I made using windows7 image maker
It works great, don't let anyone tell you that you have to do I clean install and waste 10 hours of you time to get your one year old machine back up and running with all of your stuff.
Search on web migrating win 7 to new ssd and you will be set.

If theres any problems I will redo my review like I did with the Muskin drive

Cons: my system
GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366
12gigs 1560 7,7,7,24 ocz 1.65v
i7960 3.2 overclocked to 3.9 with turbo on 1.315V all other volts on auto
gtx 680 & gtx 470 for PHYX
1000 watt power supply
samsung HDD1TB for backup only
WD 640 HDD 2nd drive

Other Thoughts: My first ssd was a Mushkin Enhanced Chronos MKNSSDCR480GB 2.5" 480GB SATA III MLC, died in 2 days. my new RMA Muskin drive was also DOA, my system won't see it in the bios. Called newegg for refund and they are great, they gave me store credit, I did not want another one of these drives so I bought the corsair.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and Just Works

Pros: Just like the title says - they are fast and just work. I like it when you buy something and it just works. I bought 2 of them.

Cons: As with everything the price will come down.

Other Thoughts: Using 2 of them under Linux in Raid 0 configuration. Using it as a monster web server with Asus MB, 8 core AMD CPU and 32 gigs ram. So - works fine under Linux.

5 out of 5 eggsSpeed, Value, and Performance

Pros: It is really fast, price point compared to other products is great. breeze to install. Overall I have had a great experience with this drive. I own 2 for, 2 different setups, and installed a 3rd for a family member. Not a bit of trouble.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Wish the sled was a little longer for desktop installs, not really any trouble, just looks nice in the case.

5 out of 5 eggsI like the Corsair Force drives...

Pros: I now have both the 240 GB and 480 GB Corsair Force Series 3 drives. I can say without a doubt these drives are incredibly fast and reliable. I've had zero firmware related issues, and performance has stayed strong on my 240 GB drive for the past several months. The 480 is just like it, but with more capacity. I've ran the drives on SATA 2 and 3 ports with no issues. Why pay more for drives that perform about the same?

Cons: NONE!

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing SSD

Pros: Speed of the device is very high. It's wicked fast. Boots a 17" MBP w/ 16GB of RAM in < 13 seconds. Apps open instantly. I am very happy with this drive.

Cons: The price is high, but its a new piece of technology - we're still funding R&D for it.

TRIM support is disabled by default. Simply Google enabling TRIM support and you'll find some terminal commands you enter into Terminal (Mac OS X Lion Only).

Other Thoughts: Would I recommend this drive? Yes.

I used Blackmagic Disk Speed Test and got a score around 260MB/s on a 5GB stress. My 5400RPM scored around 60MB/s and the 7200RPM scored around 96MB/s. Four 7200RPMs in RAID 0 will score around 120MB/s. So - it's considerably faster!
