4 out of 5 eggsSolid State Item

This review is from: CORSAIR Survivor 64GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSV3-64GB

Pros: Solid construction, rubber gasket seal, water resistant up to 200m? Aluminum tube construction like a good flashlight. No driver was needed, USB 3.0 worked just fine.

Cons: Nothing is perfect! The cap that opens the tube is a twist cap, when removed it gives access to the usb port. The cap is not attached to anything, so it could be lost. I'd suggest they add a rubberized chord to attach the cap to the rest of the device to prevent misplacement.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Flash Drive

This review is from: CORSAIR Survivor 64GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSV3-64GB

Pros: Very nice little drive, design done well, feels very safe enclosed in the aluminum canister. Very rugged and everything feels structurally sound. Very fast transfer speed over USB 3.0.

Cons: Inside of aluminum canister scratches very easily. (don't look inside it)

4 out of 5 eggsRugged Drive, mostly good

This review is from: CORSAIR Survivor 64GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSV3-64GB

Pros: Extremely Rugged
High Capacity

Cons: Slows significantly when full

Other Thoughts: I've had this drive for a while, and I've filled it up to about 40gigs or so. It's easily the best flash drive you can buy in terms of Durability. It's also pretty good as far as performance goes, with one issue.

Performance was very good until I started filling it close to the half-way mark. After I hit about the 25-ish gigabyte mark (About half full), the drive started to become sluggish. While browsing files on it, or just moving things around, there are quite a few times where the drive stops responding for a second or two then comes back. This was not the case back when it had less than 20-ish gigs of data on it.

This is my first 64gig flash drive, so I can't say if this is an issue with just Corsair, or if it's an issue with all high-cap flash drives. All I can say is that it performs well until you start filling it up. Ultimately though, I bought it for the durability and not the speed, which makes this issue bearable.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: CORSAIR Survivor 64GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSV3-64GB

Pros: So far it beats any of the older drives I have. great carrying case which I can tell you has gone thru quite a few drop tests. so far this is a very good purchase for me, speeds on 64bit systems is fantastic and windows 8 has been great I have not had a system which cannot read the drive yet. I actually put it in a jar with water over the weekend to test its water tight case .......Monday, up and running like a champ.

Cons: read write speeds could be better, but for the price you pay you cant beat it.

Other Thoughts: I am not sure why some users cannot use it on Windows 8, but we have used it extensively for our Windows 8 and 64bit migrations with no issues at all. so far a great purchase for us.

4 out of 5 eggsReliable Drive

This review is from: CORSAIR Survivor 64GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSV3-64GB

Pros: Durability, speed, reliability

Cons: speed, size, rubber ends seem "grimy", limited size

Other Thoughts: This is actually my third Survivor drive, but for good reasons. I've never had any fail on me. I started with a silver 16GB, then upgraded to a Black 32GB and sold the 16 to a friend. Now I sold my 32GB and picked up this 64GB. All three have worked flawlessly.

As for speed, it's reasonably fast. It blows away most cheaper drives. I would, however, like to see it be a little faster. Ideally, I would like a larger 128GB survivor with speeds above 100MB/s up and down. Having speeds closer to 150 would be wonderful. The only reason I knocked off an egg is for the lack of a 128GB version, and speeds that still stay under 100MB/s when the rest of the market is nearing 200MB/s. Given that, I understand that this drive has durability in mind, not just performance. So maybe I shouldn't have taken away that egg...

Speaking of durability, this drive would have survived 2012 if anything had actually happened. While I've smashed and destroyed cheaper plastic drives, this one has protected my data valiantly. If you have an active lifestyle and need to carry projects and files, this is the drive to get. Also, if you tend to be clumsy with your delicate electronics, you need this drive.

One last thing, the rubber ends seem to give off a black grime in some cases. I've noticed it in the heat of summer a lot. This could be the dye used in the rubber, although I'm not really sure. I'm just getting nit-picky here though. I won't take away an egg for something as minor as that.

Overall, it's a great drive. What it lacks in high-cap storage and speed, it makes up for by surviving everything you can throw at it.
