5 out of 5 eggsQuite fast; good for ultrabooks

Pros: The drive is quite quick, runs cool, and hasn't given me any issues. Was able to pop it in and install Linux right away without an issue. The drive itself has a good & solid casing, while also looking quite attractive and sleek. It's only 7mm thick, and would be quite a good upgrade for ultrabooks that don't already have an SSD, desktops, or any system, really. Good price for the amout of storage, too.

Cons: None that I can think of. Would be nice if cables were included for this price, though I didn't need any.

Other Thoughts: Running Linux Mint 14 on this drive.

SSD's blow regular HDD's out of the water; and comparing the speed of this on my ultrabook to that of my desktop (which runs Windows 7 and uses an SSD as a primary drive) it loads far faster than that, too. It's quite amazing.

5 out of 5 eggsFAST with no issues

Pros: Very fast, good amount of storage, and VERY FAST. Benchmarks show this drive to be very consistently fast across many different scenarios, and it is great as my OS drive

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: Installed Windows 8 on mine and away I went. No troubles. Windows 8 boots in the blink of an eye with this drive.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice

Pros: Super fast, reliable read/write..not much else to say about it.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Buy it, and don't forget to set BIOS to AHCI, I have seen some other sites with poor reviews of SSD's in general with negatives about load and install times. You HAVE to set BIOS folks. That setting is in your SATA options.

2 out of 5 eggsBe careful!

Pros: It is fast. I never got around to running benches on it. And also it was was my first SSD endeavor as well. But I could definitely see an increase overall over other HD's I've used before.

Cons: Constantly causes crashes and all kinds of problems in Windows 7 and Windows 8. Part of the problem was when I bought this SSD HD, I was putting together an almost all new system. And installing Windows 8 for the first time as well. So once I had everything up and running, I had lots and lots of BSOD's and programs freezing up, and just about every kind of problem imaginable. I've been using and building computers for going on 20 years. So after lots and lots of troubleshooting and trying to figure out which new piece of hardware, or if it was Windows 8 that was causing my problems, I finally took out my new SDD and once that was done, everything finally runs problem free! Never in my life had I been so angry at a piece of computer hardware up until now. I have bought lots and lots of Crucial products over the years, in fact I just recently bought about 50 gigs of their ram for 4 computers I recently put together, but somehow I just got really unlucky on this SSD HD from them. :( Unfortunately I am unable to return it due to it being past the RMA date. So I would really love to take a hammer to it instead. :) I'll continue buying from Crucial because I've loved their stuff over the years. But I will definitely be hesitant though the next time and from here on out. I would pass on this HD from them until it maybe has some more positive reviews. I kept my rating to a 2. I would have knocked it all the way down to a 1, but in fairness I gave Crucial a 2 due to their excellent history I've had with them over the years.

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost everything I expected

Pros: Fast, light, battery friendly; everything my first SSD promised. Haven't bench marked but just from boot time this thing is crazy fast.

Cons: Was a royal pain to install in my Sony but likely nothing to do with the product and everything to do with Sony Bios.

My laptop locked up after recent windows update a few weeks back and would not display anything on the monitor. I too thought it would not awake from sleep state and put in original hard drive which booted fine. Further troubleshooting revealed that the laptop was not sending video to the local display but I could send video to an external display. After some more troubleshooting the problem magically went away and I have not had any problems since.

Other Thoughts: I absolutely love this SSD. I don't use windows sleep or hibernate... it takes about the same time to boot the machine as it does to recover from these long problematic modes anyway so if I were sp408 my machine would have never been in sleep. Perhaps the problem sp408 describes is the same thing I experienced... how do you tell if an SSD is dead anyway? It's not like the drive spins up and makes noise. You have to plug in to a functioning system and use software to diagnose.

2 out of 5 eggsgood while it lasted

Pros: The speeds were good, just as advertised.

Cons: Put my laptop to sleep one day and it never woke back up again. I have had this issue with other corsair ssd's, but they usually just chrash and I reboot. This one just plain died which irritates me as Corsair "usually" makes decent products. So I just threw the thing away and picked up a Crucial drive. I have 4 other corsair ssd's and they all crash at some point during sleep or far crucial sits on top for stability over speed.

Other Thoughts: I am going to stray away from Corsair from now on for SSD's.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear sp408,

We're deeply sorry that you've ran into issues with the Neutron GTX. Please fill out an RMA request at and we would be delighted to replace the unit for you.

Thank you,
Corsair Customer Support

5 out of 5 eggsMeets the Benchmarks

Pros: It performs to the advertised speeds. What else can be said?

Cons: I have a suspicion Corsair failed to properly wipe my drive after their internal testing. I did not deduct an egg, because this is not a problem with the hardware itself.

The mounting screws could be longer for cases such as the Antec 1200. Again, this is not a hardware problem, just Corsair's oversight.

Other Thoughts: Run a wipe from Disk Parted before you install your OS. I had some performance issues before doing so.

If you are installing Windows 7, be sure it is post-SP1. I spent the better part of three days trying to troubleshoot a periodic system hang caused by my old installation media.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for x58

Pros: Upgraded to this drive from a Corsair Performance 3.

This drive is excellent. The drive benchmarks on my x58 setup are:

Seq. read: 501mb/s
Seq. write: 311mb/s
Windows Experience Index (Windows 7 x64) - 7.9
AS SSD score: 764

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have tried other SATA III drives (Corsair Force GT) but the x58 platform is known to have SATA III bottlenecking issues due to Marvell controller. With the FOrce GT I would get around 200mb/s seq. read speeds which was very low. Anything that is sandforce based will give the lowest speeds imaginable on this platform. This new LAMD controller performs exactly how it was intended to, very very well.

My setup is:
Rampage III Black Edition
Core i7 930 @ 4.48Ghz
Corsair Dominator GT 6GB 1600 C7
2 x GTX480 Hydro Copper SLI
Corsair Neutron GTX 120GB
