Neutron Series GTX SSDs: extreme-performance solid-state drives

Designed for high-end desktop and notebook PCs, the Neutron Series GTX is delivers a significant boost for your work and play with its blazing fast data access. Powered by an advanced Link_A_Media (LAMD) SATA 3 SSD controller, the GTX excels at both random read/write speeds and sequential write speeds, and provides amazing responsiveness for all types of data-intensive work - video production, large-scale graphics editing, or running multiple office applications could be easy and fast. The 7mm form factor fits both standard notebooks as well as the latest generation of slim notebook designs. If you’re considering upgrading your notebook to something slimmer, your Neutron can move with it.

  • newegg Professional-grade LAMD SSD controller The LAMD controller is designed to deliver both super-high IOPs — important for data-intensive tasks like video and image editing — as well as superior sequential read speeds for lighting fast file access.
  • newegg Great sequential read speeds, regardless of file type SSDs compress and decompress files on the fly. Some solid-state drives hit a performance bottleneck when opening files that can’t be further compressed. This includes video, audio, and image files — and if your PC is also your entertainment center or you work with media files as part of your job, lesser SSDs can slow you down. Neutron’s real-world performance design focus means impressive file loading times even with non-compressible data.
  • newegg Install it almost anywhere Neutron follows the universal 2.5” standard, for quick installation into most notebooks. It fits into place on newer PCs which have built-in 2.5” drive support. Many newer slim notebooks get that way at the expense of height restrictions for SSDs. Neutron is just 7mm high, so it can go where some other SSDs can’t.
  • newegg Built for SATA 3 6Gb/s Neutron Series is designed to support the latest high-speed standard to get the most performance out of the latest PCs. It’s also fully backward compatible with SATA 2.
  • newegg Maintains its Performance Over Time Neutron Series SSDs support the Windows 7 TRIM command. This allows them to store only the data they need and perform memory optimization to ensure the fastest possible write speeds.
  • newegg Solid-State Reliability Because SSDs have no moving parts, they can handle shock, vibration and temperature changes far in excess of traditional hard drives. That's important for desktop PCs, and essential for notebooks.

2 out of 5 eggsWierd lag which persists

Pros: Fast when it does not lag

Cons: See other thoughts

Other Thoughts: We purchased this as a 'tester' for our CAD machine. We somewhat randomly selected this SSD for the specs and price. I did a raw Win7 HomePrem install which went fairly smoothly. From the beginning, there seemed to be a 'lag'. You would move the mouse to a menu and it would take about 5 seconds for it to 'recognize' and highlight the button. Apart from this the drive works fine, including installed software, but the lag persists. We have tried the drive in several machines both desktops and laptops and the problem continues on each platform. It is past its return time to Newegg because I spent too much time trying to troubleshoot it myself with my considerable tech skills, but in the end it appears to be some kind of inherent latency, in the order of 10 seconds, which makes it useless as a root drive for an OS. However, it works fine for saving data, as long as you can wait ten seconds or so for a command to be carried out. It is lightning fast in between lags which seem to be every 10-15 seconds. I work in SolidWorks and you will issue a command, and if you wait, boom it does what its told but it is FREAKIN annoying!
Should have just sent the thing back….. $100 down the drain. I guess we will use it in a machines as a backup drive or something. The other SSD I purchased (OCZ) makes my intel desktop open Win7 in 5 seconds! and there is no lag!

1 out of 5 eggsRecertified?

Pros: I bought one of these, and it has worked quite well, so I decided to purchase a second drive. While the first drive works well to this day, the second acted suspicious right out of the gate.

Cons: One of the two drives that I purchased didn't work quite right from the start, and several months later, it is no longer recognized by the computer.

Other Thoughts: You roll the dice with any computer associated device nowadays, but I'm not convinced that recertified is the way to go.

5 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Fast, cheap.

Cons: First pair had different hardware versions (indicated by different firmware series: M206, M311), and the older one refused to update the firmware (M206->M208) no matter what I tried. I viewed that as a bad sign, so RMA'd it. Received another M311 drive, and both are working great.

Other Thoughts: I didn't have much luck putting these in RAID. Tried both hardware and software RAID, and although the initial numbers were very good (>1GB/s read), read speed quickly dropped to 400 MB/s, which is slower than a single drive on it's own. Oddly enough, write speed stayed good in RAID (850-900 GB/s), only the read speed dropped off. Don't know what the problem was, maybe just some stupid thing I did.

They work great solo, though! Both drives get consistent 525/450 with random-data testing in CrystalDiskMark after several TB of lifetime writes.

1 out of 5 eggsWindows crashes & takes 10min

Pros: Well, it boots up fast.

Cons: Set up the trim, updated everything I could, made sure to use a 3.0 data cable and windows just constantly crashes after boot up. I reformatted and did another clean install with the same outcome. I wouldn't be surprised if the item wasn't even refurbished and just sent back into circulation as is. Also being told I will not be getting a refund. Fantastic! Thank you Corsair! I will never buy a SSD from you again.

4 out of 5 eggsCorsair Rocks

Pros: Came exactly as described. Plugged in and formatted and installed Windows 7 and Ubuntu 13.10. Booted to Windows and Ubuntu really fast.. Tested and the Read and Write speeds were incredible coming from a old school HDD. Windows Index went from 5.9 to 7.9.

Cons: No Cons I installed and formatted and it worked

Other Thoughts: I bought this refurbished and know they are highly tested and most of the time better than brand new as testing is stringent. I was aware of the possibility of getting a defective one but didn't care

5 out of 5 eggsFinally 7.9 in WEI

Pros: I really didn't want to clean install (yet) so I used my very recent Acronis backup and cloned!
IMO it paid off . . . . as in big time.
30 minutes, case open to close, and WEI 7.9 on boot drive in Windows 7 64-Bit flavor.

Cons: I don't have any "Cons" as I knowingly bought a "Refurb", and then took way to long installing?

Other Thoughts: Once I finally got around to installing/inspecting I did notice a piece of the drive power connector "guide tang" broken. Since I know the correct orientation for connecting a SATA power cable I took that chance and it worked fine.

My point is that one should do, at a minimum, a good visual inspection immediately upon receipt.

This is my 15-20th SSD install (mostly for others) and the first install withlout some form of major hiccup or secondary imaging!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: *Very Fast in Raid 0 configuration
*Very Fast without Raid 0 configuration
*No Heat
*Low Power

Cons: *Drive Failed

Other Thoughts: I bought one hard drive for my new gaming laptop and was blown away so decided to buy another and raid the two. After setting everything up and reinstalling the second drive died after 20 minutes. Since windows 8.1 only took 10 minutes to install I wasn't upset at all. Newegg sent me a replacement in two days. after receiving the bad one. All is well again.. worth the wait..

5 out of 5 eggsVery Fast, So Far So Good

Pros: I consistently get 500MB/s read and 480MB/s Write on sequential tests with CrystalDiskMark. This is also my boot drive so I expect as a secondary drive it would test out just as described. Blows my Raid 0 of Kingston original V series SSDs (2x128gb). Very happy with the purchase.

Cons: construction is a bit week. It looks like sheet metal wrapped around the PCB where as my Kingston original SSDNow V series are machined aluminum frames. A bit disappointed in that aspect but once it is buried in my laptop, who sees it?

Other Thoughts: I have been running this as my boot drive for about 2 weeks. I had one BSOD and had to re-image with Norton Ghost. not sure if it was the drive so not counting it yet. will update review if anything changes over time. So far, glad I saved the money on the refurb.
