This review is from: Manufacturer Recertified Corsair Force Series 3 CSSD-F240GB3/RF2 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Manufactured Recertified

Pros: Price (picked up durring sale)

Cons: Does not work with alot of motherboards.
No drivers to suppord any form of legacy support usually resulting in your BIOS not even recognizing it is installed.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you do your research on this SSD with your specific mother board or you may be disapointed.

4 out of 5 eggsPerformance "Up To"

This review is from: Manufacturer Recertified Corsair Force Series 3 CSSD-F240GB3/RF2 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Manufactured Recertified

Pros: I would say the best thing about these drives and the reason I bought two of them, is the price. Less than $100 for a 240 GB SSD is dirt cheap. Especially given the performance and capacity. The price of SSDs is finally getting to a point where they're becoming affordable. At this point in time 240 GB is the minimum size you'd want in a primary system drive unless you have a larger secondary drive. Two of these in RAID are about as fast as a high end SSD and twice the capacity for the price.

I bought two of these to run in a RAID 0 configuration. My z97 recognized them right away and I was able to set up my RAID array with ease. For what you pay, these drives are perfect for RAID setups. Using AS SSD and Crystal Disk benchmarks I achieved an average read speed of roughly: 400 MB/sec

And average write speeds of roughly: 500 MB/sec

Which I thought was backwards, I expected to have faster reads than writes.

Installation times have been dramatically improved from a mechanical hard drive. Load times in games are faster. I'm able to record higher quality game videos due to the quick write speeds. Which is especially useful for anyone wanting to record in game videos at 4K resolution.

Cons: I expected this drive to at least come close to the specs listed on the store page. 530 MB/sec reads and writes would have been nice. But even in RAID 0 with two of these I can't achieve those speeds. Yes, it's close on the write but it's read speeds that really matter to me. I never actually benchmarked a single drive, but I'm certain it's not faster than two in RAID.

Nothing special comes with these. Just a small cardboard box with a plastic tray and that's it.

Other Thoughts: Ordinarily I don't hesitate to buy refurbished. I've had extraordinary luck with refurbished hardware in the past. But, being my first experience with SSDs it's hard to say whether buying an SSD refurbished is a smart move or not. I've read a number or reviews based on this product new and many of them were RMA'd due to a simple firmware issue. Which means they would have had minimal usage before being recertified.

Various manufacturers of computer related hardware, and many other examples of electronics (car stereo amplifiers spring to mind), have been leading consumers on by labeling a product as being capable of performance "up to" a certain point. That certainly doesn't mean it will run there all the time. And in this case, Corsair tells us these drives will read and write up to 530 MB/sec, roughly. But if they won't achieve those speeds with two drives in a RAID 0 config I'd say its safe to say a single drive definitely wouldn't.

Even though these drives may not be as fast as if hoped, they're still way faster than what I had, cheaper and higher capacity. I bought a 300 GB Raptor way back when they first came out and paid $300 for it. And I wasn't particularly blown away with its performance.

So, I guess I'll just view this as a lesson learned and remember to research benchmarks for any particular drive I may be interested in buying in the future. I'm not saying I'm not satisfied with my purchase. Because for what I paid, you really can't go wrong. Especially considering the average price of a 240 GB SSD. I just have a couple questions I've been wondering about. Do these drives perform slower than new drives because they're refurbs? And how long will they last? Valid questions for any refurb. But, given all the various debates regarding SSD longevity. A person tends to get curious.

I've owned a number of Corsair devices over the past few years. Several set of memory, 2 power supplies and these SSDs. I did end up having to RMA a stick of RAM a few years back, but Corsairs customer service was quick and painless. Based on previous experience with Corsair I'm pretty confident these drives will last a reasonable amount of time and if they don't I'm also fairly confident Corsair would work with me to get it fixed.

This review is from: Manufacturer Recertified Corsair Force Series 3 CSSD-F240GB3/RF2 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Manufactured Recertified

Pros: Nice price, but . . .

Cons: Does Corsair even test their returns?!
Labeled as 'Re-certified'. How do they do that?
Purchased two and two DOAs.
Tested on two of my systems. Not recognized at all.
Could not be more DOA!

4 out of 5 eggsHeres Hoping

This review is from: Manufacturer Recertified Corsair Force Series 3 CSSD-F240GB3/RF2 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Manufactured Recertified

Pros: Quick, (has been) Reliable

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I got this because my 60gb force 3 has been a welcome addition to my pc for years. It is my OS/Main drive and it has never had a problem as far as I see. I have seen MANY negative reviews on them as of 2 nights ago, and now I am pretty weary.... however, i ordered this prior to reading all of that. Regardless, i just hope mine doesn't poof out 7-10 months into ownership, like i said the 60 gb has been just fine, through 2 setups. So i say, despite the reviews, give em a try if your on a budget, if you get a bad one, send it back. Price is right.
