2 out of 5 eggsCheap Construciton

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Mini 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFMINI3-16GB

Pros: Fast, works

Cons: Cheap construction. The aluminum casing dents and bends very easily. At one point the electronic bits pulled out of the aluminum case when I pulled it out of a computer.

Other Thoughts: Poorly made, but it still works

3 out of 5 eggsMight not work on MAC OS X

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Mini 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFMINI3-16GB

Pros: I bought two of these but they did not work in any of the two MacBook Airs or the one MACBook Pro that I tried. I returned them both to Corsair without any trouble. They asked me to take a pic of the lot number and then approved my RMA right away. They sent replacements that do work with MacBooks.

Cons: The description said it would work with Mac or PC without drivers. I did not find any issue in Windows or Ubuntu. But not with my MBP.

Other Thoughts: Some of these had a firmware problem, buyer beware if you plan to use with a Mac

2 out of 5 eggsWhat a joke

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Mini 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFMINI3-16GB

Pros: -It holds data
-It's small

Cons: -No protection for when it's in your pocket, even though it's made to be on a keychain. Bends too easily, making the keychain idea a horrible one
-It's horribly slow. Actually slower than a 3 year old Toshiba 16GB USB2 drive I have.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my truck, just for music. Unfortunately, my truck really doesn't like it, nor does my wife's BMW. Works fine on the computer, but that's about it. I was hoping for USB 3 write speeds, but the USB3 interface is completely pointless since it will hardly write at USB 2 speeds. I've gone back to my old USB stick, and will keep this for other tasks.

Buy something else, seriously.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Mini 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFMINI3-16GB

Pros: Small, yet good amount of storage. Strong rubber holding it to the very solid key ring.

Cons: After carrying around and using it for a few months now, I only have one complaint. The casing at the tip where you have to plug it in, gets bent inwards, making it impossible, or very tight to plug it in. Easy enough to fix, can bend it back out with your finger easily enough, was just hoping it would be more solid.

3 out of 5 eggsNot for Mac user

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Mini 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFMINI3-16GB

Pros: Nice looking design who fit nice with keychain. Quality build. Fast. Works nicely with a PC

Cons: I would wish to know that product is PC only.

Other Thoughts: Not working with my Mac even i format it in FAT32. Blame Apple for this.

1 out of 5 eggsMac compatibility = NO

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Mini 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFMINI3-16GB

Pros: Not Many

Cons: Rubber strap feels scarry and seems to be able to break easy. NO MAC COMPATIBILITY on Mavericks. Tested on two Macs and one Hackintosh.

Other Thoughts: Just skip it.

1 out of 5 eggsSlower than USB 2.0

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Mini 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFMINI3-16GB

Pros: Perfect design, aluminum case, nice rubber fob with key ring. I purchased the 64gb version.

Cons: Extremely slow read and/or write. Have tried it in 3 different computers, all less than 6 months old, all with multiple USB 3.0 ports. This device is slower than my 5 year old USB 2.0 Lexar. Would not recommend or purchase again.

Other Thoughts: I'm an IT professional and I use several different USB drives in my daily work. This drive is slower than any usb drive I have.

4 out of 5 eggsNot the fastest USB 3 drive out there

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Mini 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFMINI3-16GB

Pros: The best thing about this USB drive is its appearance. I love how it looks. It's nice and sleek, and protected by a brushed metal casing. The top black clip is made of flexible rubber and has a mini-keyring attached so you can attach it to something so it doesn't get lost. Also I actually don't mind that there isn't a USB cap. Most of the time they get lost anyway and even so they manage to stay fairly clean inside. If you're abusing a drive so much that the plug needs a cap, you're handling it too roughly- USB plugs do not need caps- cables don't have them, why do USB keys need them?

Performance-wise however, things are a different story- see cons for analysis.

Cons: Performance is nothing to write home about. As other reviewers have stated, although faster than USB 2.0 drives, it lags behind a lot of USB 3 drives. To verify a previous reviewer's benchmarks, I fired up CrystalDiskMark and tested a 500mb sequential read and write, typical of a large file that you would use the drive for. I got similar results, with 46.10MB/s read and 12.30MB/s write. This is pretty mediocre performance. However, I don't consider this to be a dealbreaker (see other thoughts).

Other Thoughts: Two points I want to address: firstly, while not an outstanding drive, I don't believe the mediocre performance means you shouldn't buy this drive. When it comes to USB flash storage, most of the time I use a key drive for small files where speed isn't a big deal. For larger files I mostly use a portable hard drive anyway to sustain performance and reduce wear on my USB drives. So I don't find the performance to be a deal-breaker.

Secondly, when formatted, it appears as 14GB. However, I want to clarify that this is not because space is being used for formatting. This is because when advertising, 1GB is considered 1000MB. However, since computers work in binary, 1GB is actually 1024MB to the computer. No memory is "disappearing" due to formatting, it is simply a difference in the way the units are calculated. Of course it sounds better to say 16GB rather than 14GB so it is industry practice to do this. Just putting that out there.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat design, but underperforms

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Mini 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFMINI3-16GB

Pros: Small, yet sturdy build. Sleek.

It comes with a keyring. It's extremely small and I have no doubt that those of us who are prone to losing things even twice this size will be able to lose this drive in no time. The keyring is attached to a rubber piece and would be easy to attach with your keys, but not easily removable (see cons.)

USB 3.0, in theory. But not fast at all.

Cons: Not a detachable keyring. The ring has no clipping mechanism or anything to easily remove it from your keyring. It's good in that it'll never fall of your keychain. But if you happen to have a bulk of keys then you'll have to deal with them hanging from your USB port while it's plugged in or you'll have to remove it to use it, which isn't convenient.

Didn't come with any USB cap.It seems the selling point was to have a drive you can put on your keyring and take everywhere. If so then they should have included a dust cap for the USB drive. Keys get pretty beat up, and this drive seems to be of a sturdy metal build. But you wouldn't want to put it through what your keys endure without protecting the contacts that plug into your computer.

Speeds: Although it's USB3.0, in CrystalDiskMark a 500MB sequential read was 44.30MB/s and write was 9.14MB/s. Needless to say, at these speeds you won't be doing anything requiring quick speeds.

Other Thoughts: It only has a total of 14GB storage. I didn't want to put that as a con because I know that game. Storage isn't ever as big as advertised for technical reasons. Just throwing that out there, though. The drive comes formatted as Fat32. If you're an avid Windows user then I recommend formatting to NTFS when you get it. The write speed increased a bit after doing so, but were still extremely slow. Mac could format to HFS+, and linux users could do whatever they'd like be it BTRFS, ext4, ext3, whatever. Bottom line, Fat32 has reigned over the years but I have found that modern filesystems perform slightly better.

Cosmetically, it's a really decent drive being small and sturdy. If you plan to use it for high portability and to keep it mostly out of the way then I recommend getting a USB cap/cover and some sort of keychain clip if you don't want to risk getting it wet or don't want to hang your entire keyring from your laptop/desktop while you use it.
