1 out of 5 eggsCenton is Garbage

Pros: good size

Cons: Like most reviews here, these are garbage. Constantly needs to be reformatted. Works good foe a day or two, then locks up. Save yourself some headaches, and go with anything other than Centon

4 out of 5 eggsWorked Quite Well ("worked" that is)

Pros: Average speeds for read/write. Lasted nearly 5 years of heavy service. Good aluminum body felt more high quality than most other sticks. Warranty was valid even after 5 years!

Cons: Average speeds for read/write (yep, that's a con too). Removable cap is easy to loose. I much prefer sticks that allow me to stick the cap on the other side of the stick. There is also no keychain/strap loop for a wire/strap - easy to loose.

Those negatives above is the only reason I knocked an egg off of the rating.

Other Thoughts: I have to give a review of this because of all the negative comments here.

My previous work gave me one of these, as they do all employees, back in 2010. I made very heavy use of it: mostly formatting time and time again loading up different Windows, Linux and Bitcoin boot ISOs (which always changes the MBR). I also copied very large mkvs (8 to 12 GB) to move around from time to time. Constantly formatting and copying again. I also copied 1000s of small files for drivers for those OS installs.

Only recently, in late 2014, did it fail me. And I think this was partially my fault: I was trying to format it with ext4 for Linux (for the first time! all other times was either Fat32 or NTFS). It would work some times, but not all the time. When I decided it wasn't working, I went back to format it with NTFS - this is when the drive was not detected any longer. Putting it back into the Linux machine, I removed all partitions - only to get errors such as "WRITE Protected." Windows now sees it, but won't let me format it saying a similar error, "Unable to write."

Note, I've had this for nearly 5 years... I went to Centon's website and filled out their RMA process - and they are sending me a new one. Wow.

1 out of 5 eggsAbsolute Junk, worked once

Pros: Slim form-factor

Cons: Stopped working on first-use
absolute junk

Other Thoughts: I bought this USB memory stick locally because it was on-sale super-cheap. It literally worked for about 4 minutes when I plugged it into my machine, and won't work at-all on any machine since then. I'm kicking myself because I already lost the receipt so I'm stuck with this garbage thing. Should have used Newegg instead, the reviews would have kept me from buying it in the first place, and if I had lost my mind and bought it anyway, at least I'd be able to return it. JUNK.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst flash drive i've owned

Pros: inexpensive... looks cool i guess

Cons: This IS the worst flash drive i've ever bought. Up until today no flash drive has ever given me problems as this one. I bought it to replace my 4 4gbflash drives... after MOVING my data to it... I unplugged it, then I remember I forgot to put something else, and when I plugged it back in... it said it needed to format. Thankfully I have a software which recovers data, which I did. So I formatted the drive thinking that this was my fault since I didn't do it in the first place. but it happend again!!! I tested it in other PCs, other files and it would keep the data for some plugs and unplugs session but it would ultimately lose it. I exchanged it in the store and the second one did the same thing.

Other Thoughts: I'm never buying any usb drives from Centon, i'm stiking with the ones i know who work, Patriot, Sandisk, PNY and Transend.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible device

Pros: small, lightweight, easy to carry around (but who wants to carry around a useless device?)

Cons: Just a pocket filler, because after about 3 months it died. Completely blitzed out. No computers even recognize it. I lost a lot of critical work information because of it.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT!

1 out of 5 eggsNot Reliable

Pros: Low price, nice slim look

Cons: I've owned 3 of these nasty drives and they all went bad within 3 months of moderate use. Even the drives that were replaced by the company went bad within 3 months.

Other Thoughts: Centon is one brand that I would definitely stay away from.

2 out of 5 eggsVery Slow

Pros: Storage size and aesthetics.

Cons: Very slow transfer rate. Easily three times as slow as my 1GB USB flash drive.

1 out of 5 eggsNothing "pro" about it

Pros: Small form factor. Shiny.

Cons: Loses data on a whim. Not Xbox360 ready. Unable to copy large files to it.

Other Thoughts: I've gone through two of these with the same results. It appears to just be the device itself. I've copied files to it, moved it to another machine and it detects it as blank. It wouldn't even let me transfer something over a gigabyte saying the drive was full when there was nothing on it. Tried to use in the the Xbox 360 and it said it failed data transfer. Guess it knows better than my PC and Mac. It may have a lifetime warranty but you just get another broken device.

1 out of 5 eggsHunk of Junk

Pros: At least it worked long enough to retrieve my pictures.

Cons: I bought this for a trip to Costa Rica where I moved my pictures to it, I returned, retrieved my pictures from it, and it never worked again. Of course, this was 35 days after I bought it so, the return policy was void. Do not buy this product.
