4 out of 5 eggsGood capacity, tough little drive

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: -Tough flash drive
-Holds up to 16 GB of data
-Reliable (5 months, rides everywhere on a key ring in a pocket)
-Solid metal hole for key ring, lanyard, etc. (no plastic/glue here)

Cons: -Poor relative price/GB ratio
-32 GB models are already about the same price
-Slow transfer rate (I know it's only USB 2.0... it's still a little slow)

Other Thoughts: This is a great flash drive. I don't mind its relatively slow transfer speed. I formatted this drive exfat so I could use it with Mac and PC and store files larger than 4 GB (FAT32 no like >4 GB). The hole for your key ring/lanyard/etc is solid metal and plenty large for whatever you're hooking it on. It's a little slow at transferring large files (500 MB and up). If you need 16 GB on your key ring right now, get at least 32 GB instead. If you need 32 GB on your key ring now, get 64.

5 out of 5 eggsDiscreet storage for pocket or keyring

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: These simply work. Worth the dollars. They are small enough to go through airport security and not setoff the TSA bells and whistles. I forgot them twice in my pocket at Burbank.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsIt's a USB drive

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: It seems to work well, and I never had any problem with it so far.

It looks really nice.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: The end of the key tends to get scratched when you plug it in the usb port.

1 out of 5 eggsSLOW transfer rates

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: Great form factor.

Cons: The transfer rates are in the 2-4MB/s range for a big transfer.

Other Thoughts: I bought 3 8GB drives and this 16 GB and they are all brutally slow to write to. These are significantly slower than other older Kingston flash drives that I have.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue experienced with the DTSE9 flash drive. This model is an entry-level USB 2.0 drive and does not provide performance transfer speeds. If you are looking for a performance speed drive, please consider one of our USB 3.0 performance drives such as the DTR30G2 which offers a write speed of 25-45MB/s depending on capacity. For any further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

4 out of 5 eggsNice. Compact. Functional

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: Very small and durable. The aluminum (?) finish and body is tough and light. The unit itself is very small and works perfectly. The body itself fits into a USB port and is ~1.5" long.

Cons: The speeds aren't terribly fast, but it does the job. I've had other flash drives that were way faster, but I wonder if this device's size has a hand in that. Dunno.

Other Thoughts: Get it. It's an incredibly compact USB that will not fill your pocket when on your keychain.

5 out of 5 eggsworks great for my needs

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: It's small, unobtrusive and hearty. The one-piece metal housing is fantastic for keeping it working regardless of the average manhandling and drops - and I've been through several SanDisk Cruzer Titanium drives. The finish on the cover is nicely brushed, and doesn't ding up very easily.

Cons: Don't expect data transfer to be super fast (it is USB 2.0 afterall). The drive can fit snugly in some USB ports, but nothing that I felt might be damaging to the USB port.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat a gem

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: Price, Quality + Free shipping.

Cons: None so far with Kingston quality and I don't expect any either.

Other Thoughts: Won't set any speed records for reading and writing because it's USB1. For the ruggedness and amount of storage you get for the price you can't go wrong. Big transfers? Go get a soda, sit back and relax while the read/write happens. Life goes by way too fast anyhoo!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: It does what it needs. I currently have 2 actually, and 8 and a 16, and they both reside on my key chain. They suffer from extreme abuse and regular data writing and erasing. Never had any issues.
the things are
-strong
-lightweight
-key chain ready
-basic
-easy to use
-noting too fancy.
-Not expensive at all

for less than 10 dollars, if you hate it immensely, its only <$10 lost.

Cons: I wish this exact model came in a 3.0 version, as far as I can tell it doesn't. I think Kingston makes great portable drives but I love the design of this one.

Other Thoughts: If you just need a basic easy to use lightweight portable drive. Go no further. You cant beat the price.

If you are looking for unmatched speeds and exceptional size, go for a newer USB 3.0 drive.

3 out of 5 eggsNice..but slow..

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: nice compact design
price was good
fits on a key ring

Cons: slow..
slowwww..
slowwwwww...
gets warm with consistent reading/writing.

Other Thoughts: i bought two of these (16gb and 32gb). i had read the reviews about the speed of these drives but bought them anyway as i've always had good experiences with kingston flash drives. to say that this drive is slow is a great understatement. i'm using it for purposes of storing mp3's so the read rate isn't much of a big deal. but writing tons of files takes forever.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We are here to help and can troubleshoot with you to determine if the DTSE9 is performing properly, if not it can be replaced under warranty. Please keep in mind the DTSE9 is not a performance drive and does not offer performance transfer speeds. If you are looking for a performance transfer speed, please consider our DTR30 which offers 25MB/s write in USB 2.0 and 30MB/s in USb 3.0 ports. For any further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.
