3 out of 5 eggsNice..but slow..

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: nice compact design
price was good
fits on a key ring

Cons: slow..
slowwww..
slowwwwww...
gets warm with consistent reading/writing.

Other Thoughts: i bought two of these (16gb and 32gb). i had read the reviews about the speed of these drives but bought them anyway as i've always had good experiences with kingston flash drives. to say that this drive is slow is a great understatement. i'm using it for purposes of storing mp3's so the read rate isn't much of a big deal. but writing tons of files takes forever.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as expected

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: Bought this to use as the boot device for a paid version of unRaid. It has a flash UUID so can be registered and is a lot faster than the 1GB stick I was using previously.

This isn't a USB 3 stick so don't expect USB 3 speeds out of it, but you're only dropping 10 bucks on it and at that price, it's a steal.

Cons: None.

2 out of 5 eggsbest looking but slowest usb drive EVER

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: Excellent build quality. Metel design is great.

Cons: SLOWEST USB DRIVE I'VE EVER OWNED. I know it is USB 2, but of all the usb 2.0 thumbdrives I have ever owned....this one is the slowest, by far.

Other Thoughts: why, why, why can't it be faster?!?!?!?!

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. Please understand the DTSE9H flash drive is not a performance drive and does not offer high speed transfer rates. If you are looking for a moderately faster drive with a similar form factor you may want to consider one of our entry level USB 3.0 drives the DT Mini 3.0 (DTM30/16GB). This drive offers a 10MB/s write speed in USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports. For any further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

1 out of 5 eggsFun while it lasted

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: Very nice sleek design with useful features (key ring) One of the best looking and compact flash drives I've seen.

Cons: Bought two. Only opened the package to one. 2 to 3 days into ownership it has already failed. I should've known the price was too good to be true. This was my first kingston flashdrive and it has already failed under normal use, with only 1gb worth homework assignments.

Other Thoughts: I'm very dissatisfied with my purchase. What I thought was a good deal went sour on me

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue that has occurred with the DTSE9H flash drive you received. We stand by all our products and the DTSE9H is warrantied for five years. Contact us and we can work with you on a warranty replacement. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

2 out of 5 eggsIs this USB 1.0?

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: Physically, it's a pretty nice flash drive.

Cons: This is one of the slowest "USB 2.0" drives I've ever owned. Even though the price is pretty cheap, I wouldn't bother purchasing another one of these. In the amount of time you will spend waiting on files to transfer, you can probably find enough change in your couch and on the ground to purchase a more expensive, faster thumb drive.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Gregg,
I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. Please understand the DTSE9H flash drive is a basic USB 2.0 drive, not a performance drive and does not offer high transfer rates. If you are looking for a performance drive, please consider our DTR30 which offers 25MB/s write is USB 2.0 and 30MB/s write in USB 3.0 ports. For any further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

1 out of 5 eggsdied after 2 weeks

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: at this point, none

Cons: in addition to being the slowest flash drive I have ever had, one of the two I purchased now fails to transfer large files at any reasonable speed, it sinks as low as 250 bytes/sec. Yes, that's bytes. Performing such mundane actions as right clicking a file on the drive causes windows explorer to lock up and become non-responsive as tested on 8 different computers. Plugging in the drive at all now causes windows 7 to lock solid for 5-10 minutes as it tries to figure out what in the world I just plugged into the usb port. The other one is still agonizingly slow but at least still works with 3MB/sec write... for now. meanwhile my 7 year old thumbdrive from another manufacturer is delightfully reliable and much faster.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue experienced with the DTSE9H flash drive. It definitely should not be freezing or locking up your computer when just plugged in. That particular drive is not performing properly at all and we can replace it under it's five year warranty. The other flash drive does sound to be performing properly even if slower than desired. The DTSE9H is not a performance drive and does not offer high transfer speeds. If you are looking for a faster drive, please consider our DTM30, an entry-level USB 3.0 drive with a similar form-factor to the DTSE9H and offers a write speed of 10MB/s in USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports. For an even faster drive, consider one of our USB 3.0 performance drives such as the DTHX30 offering write speeds of 30MB/s in USB 2.0 and 135MB/s in USB 3.0. For any further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Form & Function

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: I bought these USB keys because they are sturdy and fit on my key chain. I do computer consulting and would frequently leave a customer site and forget to take my USB key with me when I left. This gets very expensive after a while. This all metal USB key fits on my key chain and I can't drive away without taking it with me. They are light weight but very sturdy little drives.

I have used one of these drives for almost a year now and it has been very reliable, no data lost, even when its pulled without first using the remove applet in Windows.

Cons: I wish Kingston would offer this in a USB 3.0 model I would snap it up in a New York minute. Not the fastest USB 2.0 device out there.

Other Thoughts: The slim design of this USB key allows it to fit into tight places on ultra-light laptops and certain Dell desktops where other drives will interfere with USB mouse plugs, Etc.

The flash memory in these runs at a moderate speed. There are faster USB keys available, but they often lack the reliability of this model.

2 out of 5 eggsSmall, but very slow

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: I purchased the 16 GB version of this Kingston DataTraveler. It is very small, looks decent, is pretty durable, and fits securely on a keychain

Cons: A massive con for this drive is the extremely slow write speed. This thing is the slowest flash drive I have ever owned. It writes even slower than a bargain bucket 512MB Sandisk usb thumbdrive that I bought for $9.99 eight years ago. The sustained write speed for this drive is approximately 3 megabytes per second for LARGE files. Writing large numbers of small files results in agonizingly slow speeds. have tested this thumbdrive in a variety of computers and ports to confirm that the write speed is on par with the worst I have ever tested. And yes, the finish does wear easily but that should be secondary to speed and reliability. the write speed is so abysmal that the massive discount (bought two 16GB for $20 total including markdown and coupon code) that I received on this drive is meaningless, and I would have rather paid a higher price for something faster.

Other Thoughts: Read speed is nothing to write home about, but it is decent enough. about 15 megabytes per second for large files.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the incovience caused by the DTSE9H flash drive. Please understand the DTSE9H is not considered a performance drive and does not offer high transfer rates. One of our USB 3.0 Performance drives would most likely serve your needs better. Such as the DTR30 which offers 30MB/s write in USB 3.0 ports and 25MB/s in USB 2.0 ports. For any further assistance with Kingston products, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. 5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: Sleek design
Small
Good amount of space
Durable
High quality

Cons: Finish scratches easily (if you care about that)

Other Thoughts: I don't normally go out of my way to review products but I had an experience with this device that forced me to. I love this flashdrive. I have never had a problem with it. Last night i accidentally left my keys (with the flashdrive) in my pocket and it went in with my laundry into a wash and dry cycle. To my surprise when I tried it after it worked fine. I don't know if it would work if this happened more than once but i was impressed at how durable it was. Just wanted to mention that.

1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Pros: - looks good
- hard metal, can't see how it could break *physically*

Cons: - Died after a few weeks. Now whenever I reboot my computer and the thumb drive is plugged in, the POST freezes for 3 minutes. It also freezes when I try to write/read on it.
- was painfully slow when it was still working

Manufacturer Response:

Hi, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We are here to help and can replace the drive under it's five year warranty. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.
