1 out of 5 eggsmy Windows 7 cannot read this, and no update firmware from Kingston website

Pros: Cheap

Cons: my Windows 7 cannot read this, and no update firmware from Kingston website.

I will return it.

1 out of 5 eggsNEW EGG SHIPPED A FAKE/Counterfeit Drive

Pros: Fast

Cons: Kingston sent me a letter stating that the UPC I cut from the packaging is fake.

I cut this right off the packaging. It was the only one there. They are saying it is not real. I have NEVER had this before.

Either Kingston is cheating me, or NewEgg.com shipped me a fake drive.

Other Thoughts: THis is the most bizarre response IO have ever received from a rebate.

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize for the issue you experienced. Please call our Customer Sales Support team at 800-835-6575 M-F 6am-5pm PT and reference your claim ID number. Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

4 out of 5 eggsOk but not stellar

Pros: Low profile, accepted cloned copy if OS w/o issue on two different systems (see comments), decent 4K read/write performance.

Cons: Mediocre sequential read/write performance. Typical SandForce controller degradation on non-compressible data. Bare bones utility suite (downloadable from Kingston).

Other Thoughts: My first and likely last SandForce SSD. Significant performance variations depending on data type. While a big step up from mechanical drives found in low to mid range laptops this is most definitely not an enthusiast drive (nor is it positioned as such). Suspect marginal sequential performance is due to smaller capacity (fewer chips) and async NAND. Don't forget to re-align partitions if cloning from a non-SSD drive; most disk imaging software can do this on restore (look under advanced options).

5 out of 5 eggsKingston is pretty reliable

Pros: Kingston SSDNow models have generally proved very reliable, and they maintain their performance over time.

Cons: Old basic model SSDNow V100 64GB model from 2 years ago had problem where "write" performance slowed down noticeably over time., but Kingston replaced it with the new model for free !

Other Thoughts: We have two of the V+100 model (96GB size) and they have been totally reliable and still have very good performance. There was that one batch of early V100's as mentioned above that maintained good "read" performance but slowed down on "write".

1 out of 5 eggsNever buy Kingston SSD again

Pros: Average but competitively priced.

Cons: I have spent nearly two days troubleshooting this brand new Kingston SSD v200+ 90GB drive and after upgrading the firmware on the drive, and making sure my brand new motherboard has the latest and greatest BIOS updates and after trying countless ideas I found online the thing still isn't recognized by a brand new retail copy of Windows 7 64 bit purchased from Newegg. The operating system will not recognize the drive as being there during a fresh installation. Its is pathetic how many times I have tried to do this now. I even went so far to install the OS on another drive and then attach the SSD and windows see it then, but not during a fresh new installation. All I want to do is install the Win7/64 on the SSC on Sata3 p0 and enjoy the performance benefits of this type of setup. But of course there is no drivers on Kingstons website as they say Windows should recognize it as a generic hard drive. Well it does not do it and I have wasted nearly two days of my time trouble shooting.

Other Thoughts: I wish I had selected the OCZ Vertex 3 drive instead. I made a bad purchase with the Kingston.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGreat SSD

Pros: Working Great. Very fast, cut my boot time more than 1/2.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I emailed Kingston before installing the drive to ask if I needed to update the firmware. They got back to me within one day and said, "no," the drive came with the most recent firmware and there was no need.

For those who don't know if you have a second drive in your system you can D/L the Acronis software free if the drive is Western Digital or Seagate. After doing this you can clone your existing drive to the SSD. It's easy.

5 out of 5 eggs*Update* Good and Bad

Pros: Same as before, super fast

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This is an update to my previous post. The SDD did not go bad on me. Turns out a stick of RAM had gone bad causing the errors the drive was kicking over. Once that issue was resolved, this drive took off. The Kingston firmware update also increased my overall throughput by about 5-10% on reads and writes.

If you have this drive, please do yourself a favor and check for firmware updates to the drive!
