  • newegg Engineered for Cost-effective performance The Kingston HyperX 3K Solid State Drives are designed and built for cost-effective performance. By leveraging the latest SATA 6Gbps interface and the second generation of SandForce SSD controller (SF-2281) which features the award winning DuraClass Technology, the HyperX 3K 480GB version pushes the limits in both sequential and random data transfer rates with up to 540MB/s read and 450MB/s write, plus incredible sustained 4KB read/write performance of 60,000/45,000 IOPS. This significantly improves your productivity, gaming, multimedia, and overall computing experience. It is backwards compatible with SATA II / 3Gbps. (Rated speeds may vary slightly depending on the benchmark used, drivers, windows version, bios version and file size.)
  • newegg SSD Benefits Unlike traditional hard disk drives, SSDs have no moving parts, resulting in a quiet, cool, highly reliable storage solution that also offers faster application loading and system responsiveness. And for laptops and netbooks, the lower power needs of SSD’s translate to extended battery life. Higher performance with more durability means you can be truly mobile with confidence.
  • newegg TRIM Support The Kingston HyperX 3K offers native TRIM support featured in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.
  • newegg S.M.A.R.T. Technology The Kingston HyperX 3K adopts Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) Technology which enables the PC to predict the future failure. Through the SMART system, the solid state drive incorporates a suite of advanced diagnostics that monitor the internal operations of a drive and provide an early warning for many types of potential problems. When a potential problem is detected, the solid state drive can be replaced before any data is lost or damaged.
  • newegg 3.5” bracket included The HyperX 3K solid state drive features a standard 2.5-inch form factor for compatibility with notebooks and select desktops. Kingston HyperX 3K stand-alone drive also includes mounting screws and a 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch mounting bracket for compatibility with standard hard drive mounting.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat SSD for the price

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: Bought for my first non Intel build. Covers the A5800 AMD's bum for sluggish speed. Not a single hiccup..

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card even after 2 years.

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: Great SSD that has been rock solid for the 2 years I've owned it.
With a fresh install of windows, this thing would boot from full power off to ready to go on the desktop in under 20 seconds.

Cons: It's not a con for this particular card, but anyone wanting to game with this, I recommend going at least 240G or higher.

With the 120G version, I can only have either SC2, WoW or D3 installed on the SSD, with the other 2 needing to go on the HDD secondary.

I was on a budget at the time of buying this, but it is my one regret.

Other Thoughts: From Kingston SSD Toolbox V1.0 after 2 years of ownership:

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: This is a very very fast SSD, and the absolute best value. This has served me as a boot drive for almost 2 years. This is basically a monster. It flooded in my basement. This SSD survived while my HDD did not. Well worth the money, don't think twice!

Cons: None that I can't think of. Possibly at 7mm form factor? That's a personal problem though.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best by far.

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: Get this for you're OS and you're top played game's. This is the best SSD you can get for the money. Yes there are cheaper SSD's but this one is only a few buck's more and well worth it.

Cons: Not any so far.

Other Thoughts: I just did a upgrade from a Core2Quad to a i5 4670k and if you can afford it. Go with 120GB for you're OS and top played games and then get one or two more 240GB and get a nice 2TB USB 3.0 drive for backup and other large files.

I plan on getting either one more so I don't have any HDD's in my case only SSD's. It make's you're case so much cooler and not as heavy. Along with SSD's being so crazy fast you could never go back to a normal HDD as you're OS/boot Drive.

5 out of 5 eggsOne of the best SSDs I've owned

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: -Fast
-Reliable
-Good looking
-Durable
-Good amount of life on it, lots of data can be written before the controller dies
-Good support from Kingston

Cons: -Outdated
-Pricy
-Better options now available

Other Thoughts: I have several of these in RAID0 config. They have been set up this way for a very long time and I have yet to have any issues.

This SSD was the best during it's time, but now is outdated and outpriced by newer SSDs like the newer Crucial and Samsung EVO SSDs.

This is is fast!

5 out of 5 eggsLightning Fast, Sleek-Solid Design, Kingston HyperX!

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: This is my first Solid State Drive and I love it!

Very fast speeds as expected, and the design is professional. Kingston has always been my go-to brand when it comes to flash drives and hard drives. Very comparable to the Samsung 840 Evo.

Cons: None!
