4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: Fast, great drive for windows and maybe larger game (bf4).

Cons: died after 2 year 11 months. It was a slow death with driver stating not to loading ... other weird thing also started to happening...Bios motherboard flash was the killer...

Other Thoughts: Glad it came with a 3 year warranty. RMA was very easy, very fast. I'm in L.A. so my turn over time was 4 days!! Kingston very easy to deal with.

2 out of 5 eggsBlue Screen, Memory Dump, Crashes

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: Much faster than HDD

Cons: After few months, started getting a blue screen, memory dump or something. Didn't occur so frequently until the 2nd year of use. Now I get this blue screen almost every day: on good days (perhaps once a week)--none; on some days multiple times just 10 - 30 minutes after startup. The system would force a system check like every day or two due to all this blue screen crash, and it would report nothing is wrong. After reading other reviews, I really think the problem lies with the SSD as I still get the blue screen after a fresh install of Win 7.

Other Thoughts: Would be willing to try a replacement drive if the process is simple. If not, I will not pick one from Kingston this time. Other reviews have convinced me on this aspect.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsKingston HyperX 3K SH103S3

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: Nice looking design, mine came with a nice mounting bracket also, Runs According to specs. fast bought it for windows 8.1

Cons: 2 eggs mainly for the fact that it Broke!!! After liking the first one so much went to buy a second one well re-installing the old one.after second time plugging in sata plug, sata port on ssd snap. "With typical & Careful installation of product." Most likely a small defect in the plastic but still 130 $ down the drain.

Other Thoughts: .

2 out of 5 eggsThere's better drives...

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: Very fast drive, made by a 'trusted' manufacturer.

Cons: not very reliable... this drive only lasted 8 months on a machine that is turned off every night. it was used only for windows files and was kept cool.

Other Thoughts: don't bother with this drive. i had an ADATA drive in my other computer that's around 2 years old that's still working without any issues.

5 out of 5 eggsSSD best bang for the buck

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: did a big upgrade, cpu (8350), HD, memory, video card, over an older AMD Athlon 240 with 4 GB of memory

Mostly there is not a huge difference in the performance, except for the SSD in the new configuration. I probably should have keep my old stuff going for a while longer and just got the SSD It really does make a difference in boot time, disk speed, programs loading, ect... I tried the system with a HD for comparison and had other boots on the HD too that were way slower then the stuff on the SSD
I don't really know if it's just this particular SSD or not but this one does work well.

main OS is fedora 20
also booted Crunch Bang! and Mint LMDE, worked fine.

I don't have Windows or games so I can't say anything about them with the SSD.

Cons: had to wait for it go on sale

4 out of 5 eggsFailed after a year

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: Very solid good looking drive. Speed of the drive was exactly what I expected. Not much faster than regular hard drives under normal use, but any compressed data or downloads... Start up times were nice

Cons: Very unreliable drive. I do not use my computer as much as I used to. Working and going to college really put a damper on my gaming.
Come home last night to a failed SSD...
Drive was 1 year, 5 months old (most of that time the pc was off)

Other Thoughts: Even though this drive did fail I still have to give it 4 stars. I took one off for it failing... but still giving 4 just because of the customer support.
I called them this morning, instantly got a human, asked some simple basic questions. Told him the drive was no longer recognized in the bios . At that point he said looks like its dead. Send it in, we will overnight you a brand new one.

I have never had such a good experience when dealing with customer support... No words can describe it.

Do not hesitate to pick one of these beasts up. I would recommend backing it up every month or so just in case it does happen to fail (all electronics are prone to it...)

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: *Fast
*Cheap
*Rock-solid

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have one of these installed in each of my desktops as a boot drive, as well as my Macbook Pro. They are very fast, and they boot to the OS very quickly. They were an excellent deal at the time, although I wish they were larger now (120gb doesn't quite cut it anymore, unless you get creative with where you store things).

1 out of 5 eggsI thought Kingston brand meant Reliable products??

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: Dead After less than a year limited use. This was part of a dual boot PC I built for my sister. Running win8 on this SSD Win7 on other HD. They preferred win 7 so only used the win 8 every so often. I told her SSD would be much faster and more reliable than a reg HD to do her Nursing classes. That was a joke go to boot one day Nothing!! Tried new sata cables, different psu. Doc stations, other pc's/Laptops. Nothing dead. She would of lost all her work,Term papers, etc. If not for backing up to flash drive. I felt like an idiot. So came out of pocket to buy a new HD. After years of using there products with no problems . I was let down by this Kingston brand SSD.

Cons: Dead!!

Other Thoughts: Not sure if design has changed on SSD but most have a set number of hours they will last. Maybe that's what killed my SSD. Even though it was used very little. Win 7 was running Hibernation/sleep putting pc in a stand by state. Leaving HD's to not power down 24/7.

Pros: Died after 2 months.
The performance degradation was apparent after the first week. \
Still waiting on responses from Kingston.
Slow write speed even with one large file.

Cons: Boots faster than a HDD and my Intel X-25V 40GB
After installing Windows on the Kingston Hyper X3k 120Gb I had a terrible experience with my PC.

Other Thoughts: $%&*...why. oh why did i pick this one?
