3 out of 5 eggsGreat as long as it lasted

This review is from: HyperX 3K 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive) SH103S3/120G

Pros: Great as long as it lasted. Great price at the time I bought it.

Cons: Only lasted a little over 3 years of VERY light use. This drive was installed in a PC at my home that is used only rarely because I use Apple products most of the time. I guess I'll stick to Samsung after this. I have installed multiple Samsung SSD's at the small city hall where I live, and not had a one of them fail, even though they're used every day, and left on 24/7.

Other Thoughts: Wouldn't recommend, and will replace with a Samsung

1 out of 5 eggsBought this drive to speed up my rig (Disappointed)

This review is from: HyperX 3K 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive) SH103S3/120G

Pros: It hasn't died yet

Cons: This drive is way over rated. Average read/write is about 120MB/s using Hd Tach and HD Tune. This drive was cheap when other SSD's were not (about 2 or 3 years ago), and now I see why, it's about half the speed of the Samsung Hard drive I replaced with it.

Other Thoughts: I would never recommend a product that is blatantly over rated

3 out of 5 eggsRIP Kingston HyperX 120GB - A sudden and shocking loss.

This review is from: HyperX 3K 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive) SH103S3/120G

Pros: Worked fine since I received it in 09/12. Had 100% Health 3 days ago.

Cons: Out of nowhere computer crashed. Reboot wouldnt get past SMART check. Connected to USB and passed WD Lifeguard but shows a capacity of 0Gb (zero). Cannot access and cannot recover.

Other Thoughts: No warning with a CDI showing 100% Health. So sad, so frustrating.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat an SSD Should Be

This review is from: HyperX 3K 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive) SH103S3/120G

Pros: - Good $/GB
- Proper read/write specs for an SSD
- Lasts forever! I'm going on almost 4 years and loving it!

Cons: - Not a well known brand? I don't care, quality product is quality.

5 out of 5 eggsRunning strong since 2012

This review is from: HyperX 3K 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive) SH103S3/120G

Pros: -Very Reliable

Cons: -None

Other Thoughts: I even put these in RAID-0 and just kept Steam games and temp downloads on the array. Never once had a failure or issue with them. They're still going actually, just not in the array anymore due to a computer switch.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Customer Service, Great SSD

This review is from: HyperX 3K 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive) SH103S3/120G

Pros: Amazing SSD, been using it for more than a year know and have loved it. I've had a few errors with the first one I had, culminating in a complete loss of function, but I was able to recover all data and was sent a replacement. Kingston is an amazing company and highly recommend this.

Cons: -Sometimes will be inaccessible, requiring PC restart

Other Thoughts: Highly recommend

2 out of 5 eggsSATA connector broken

This review is from: HyperX 3K 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive) SH103S3/120G

Pros: Was good while it lasted, was fast

Cons: The SATA connector is too fragile, moderate force broke the SATA connector and now the drive is useless because the SATA connector will not stay connected.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsSecond review after initial RMA

This review is from: HyperX 3K 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive) SH103S3/120G

Pros: Good fast SSD

Cons: First one I had died on me after a few months, no warning. Reason I NEVER use these for storage, just OS and games.

Other Thoughts: I must have just got a bad one because the second drive is still blazing fast after a year and no issues. Had it in my laptop for awhile but just moved it to a secondary gaming rig/media PC I built as the OS drive and for games like SC2/PoE/D3/LoL etc... Fired right up with a fresh OS and that computer moves at Ludicrous speed (sometimes at Plaid) with my old Phenom II Thuban 6 core and 32 gigs of 12800 ram and an old HD4850 GPU on an ASRock Extreme3 mobo. Nothing to write home about but it will run the games I listed and stream any media I want like a boss.

However, for running an OS... a 60GB Mushkin is $36 right now and 120GB is not exactly enough to hold an OS and a bunch of games.

5 out of 5 eggsFlawless drive

This review is from: HyperX 3K 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive) SH103S3/120G

Pros: Most everything is great about this drive. Installed Windows 7 Home Premium without a hitch. Much better than conventional HD's in that there are no moving parts which of course makes them silent in operation and cooler operating temperature. Very pleased with my purchase.

Cons: Only cons I can think of is it is a pretty small sized HD. At the time of purchase was pricey considering it's size. Price has dropped considerably since my purchase, which is to be expected two years later.

Other Thoughts: All things considered, I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. I had never gotten a regular HD to last maybe a year before I started having problems with it. Needless to say, I will not be using anything but an SSD HD from now on.

4 out of 5 eggsGood drive went bad - GREAT CS!

This review is from: HyperX 3K 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive) SH103S3/120G

Pros: Great addon for any workstation. SATA3 support, decent capacity and great performance for a reasonable price point. Excellent build quality (externally). The drive was a great performer while it worked.

Customer care from Kingston was a real surprise here, read below.

Cons: I usually do a follow-up review for a product after at least 1 year of service. This particular unit died on me last night . Fortunately it has died within the warranty period.

Other Thoughts: I used this drive for booting and program storage, no sensitive documents, pictures, or movies. While it's unfortunate that the drive died, I haven't lost anything except for some time to rebuild / reinstall my OS and related programs.

Customer care from Kingston (so far) has been fantastic! The support phone number on their site gets you to a real English speaking person with only 1 key press (option 2 for support). I explained the trouble shooting I'd already completed (multiple SATA ports, multiple mother boards, not recognized by bios in any) and the support person agreed that it had likely died and would be eligible for replacement.

While it sucks the drive died, these things happen. Kingston is making good on their warranty and assuming all goes well, I'll have a replacement drive soon.
