3 out of 5 eggsNo game ?

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: Good price on a good drive.

Cons: No mention of the Free Watchdogs game anywhere.

Other Thoughts: I could have bought the Samsung SSD but the free game swung my vote. Now I find I have no game.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: Very fast drive. Upgraded from an older SSD and immediately noticed a difference.

Cons: Could only afford one.

Other Thoughts: The drive is packaged well and comes with all the necessary screws. I was so pleasantly surprised with this drive that I bought a pair of 120 gig versions at a later date for other machines.

1 out of 5 eggsVery Dissapointed

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: Very fast SSD, in contrast to this review this SSD is actually really good. It works really well so far and it boots windows 8 in roughly 10 seconds. I really like this SSD.

Cons: HOWEVER. I am extremely disappointed that I did not receive my copy of Watch Dogs. I got this SSD mainly for the fact that when I bought it, it promised a copy of this game. I did not receive it when it came in the mail, even when I contacted newegg customer support they didn't do anything to compensate me and I feel cheated. So this rating does not reflect the product, it reflects my experience with receiving an incomplete order.

Other Thoughts: I do really think this SSD, but I feel that I have recieved an incomplete order. This experience has made me an unsatisfied customer...

3 out of 5 eggsWorst SSD Experience

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: It is an SSD, falls in the middle of SSDs for speed. Drive does come with a tray for mounting in a 3.5" slot. Good for rejuvenating older systems that support AHCI. Will work in standard SATA IDE mode, but you do lose some performance.

Cons: No software, nor any links on the website for migration software or SSD optimization software. Uninterested tech support, called to ask about where to find optimization software and was told I had to by the drive Kit. Huh!! I have purchased about 30 SSDs of various brands, Kingston is the worst if you are migrating systems.

Other Thoughts: Samsung is the only SSD that comes with both migration and optimization software, the other brands I have purchased at least had links on their website to migration software (usually Acronis, but I recommend EaseUS. It is free and works better) and some have downloadable optimization software. I purchase these drives to extend the lives of PCs for charitable organizations, so I shop price. With the time spent looking for migration and optimization software, this was no longer a good value. Should have spent and extra $10.00 for Samsung.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue experienced with our HyperX 3K SSD. As you found, the SH103S3/240G is the stand-alone drive. Due to licensing we are restricted and can only provide Acronis on a bootable DVD with our bundle packages, like part number SH103S3B/240G. In cases like yours, we can recommend cloning software that is freely available online, such as Macrium Reflect Free. We are here to help and can always work with you when issues like this come up. For any further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

5 out of 5 eggsAverage Gamer

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: Price ($135 with coupon when I bought it). Speed (boots windows 8.1 in less than 10sec on average and I can open Firefox or IE instantly). Reliability ( really good reviews for longevity on newegg).

Cons: When I came to write this review I found it now comes bundled with Watchdogs. None so far. If I do I guess I'll be angry enough to update this review.

Other Thoughts: I used this as the OS disk for my new build. I decided to upgrade to SSD and this drive was both highly reviewed and came with a recommendation from someone I trust as just about the fastest SSD on the market, especially for the money since I got it for $135 instead of $200. Works great and I love having an SSD, now I just kinda wish I had the extra money to get the 480gig AND a new monitor, video card ect. Maybe in a couple months.

1 out of 5 eggsNot a happy costomer

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: none

Cons: DOA- DEAD ON ARRIVAL

Other Thoughts: Tried different sata3 cables and different sata3 ports and different power cables, even tried to use the cable and port from my Samsung SSD, still nothing.
I never ever bought Kingston product before... so it could be just this one time.
Gonna request replacement and see what happens...
But I have to say....this is not a good start for Kingston to gain my trust in their product.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and Stable

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: I've build 3 3rd gen intel machines, each with a different brand of SSD including, Samsung, Crucial and Kingston. The Kingston drive is by far the fastest, especially when booting windows. I've owned this for almost 2 years and the drive health is still at 100%. My HDD I bought at the same time has a caution exclamation next to it's health bar. I am actually going to buy another one to RAID since it's price has dropped $70 since my purchase.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: Great drive as stated below.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Raymond T. you think bad mouthing someones review dose you any better, I hold a bachelors in engineering technology and computers, I would not bother to post a review and state my view of it if I did not know any better, I describe trash as pics, music and documents as trash not because I think there actually trash but because of the shear number of files that exist when you have those library's built up on your computer, kind of like when you go to your pic, doc, or video folder and you computer gives you the loading bar up top when you have 200+ files in the directory, this results in large file hatchery's that slow down your system, and its response time. Thus these items should be stored on a disk drive as disk drives your not really looking for speed with them, but you can still get it if you go 7500RPM+ if you need speed but space.

If you are looking for a solid state drive for speed performance then just keep the minimal on there, its okay to have some documents, videos and pics on there, but for full library of those items its better to put them on a second storage device.

If you want a solid state storage device just because its like a big jump drive and does not have a spinning disk on it, and are just going to put what ever you want on it, then yes its going to die on you, and from my own experience in an active IT environment, this is where we get the most issues and complaints.

Most users will just keep there OS on here as it provides awesome start up times and loads items at a faster rate, because it dose not have to 'seek' the data across a disk, rather then just locate on a chip, which is far faster.

There are more stats that professionals look at when buying hard drives, then just if its an SSD or HDD you also look at R/W speeds, power consumption, heat generation and so on.

Final bit
If you want a good sold drive for an OS and gaming (which is why most people buy SSD drives) then I recommend this one, if your looking for storage space then you can find far better and cheaper drives that are just the normal HDD's with much higher storage cap. on them.

Raymond T. you speak of tech knowledge and that I have nothing better then to slam others for there bad reviews, you right, I'm an IT guy, my job is to sit on a computer and order parts and handle costumer complaints all day. So when I have down time I do post reviews for others to let them know the positive side of things, not just the negative reviews of the item. Me doing my job vs a guy sitting at home - two different things here. I do like how you attempt to explain things though, me and the rest of our IT dept really got a kick out of it, and a screen shot of it now sits in our break room to show interns what not to do.

Best of luck all, and please excuses the mess, really felt the need to correct stupidity today =)

This review is from: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive)

Pros: Works as advertised. ( sorry newegg another vendor temporarily had a slightly better deal. YOu're always my favorite ftr. I try my best to dissuade b buy customers from wasting their money there and to order from YOU, Newegg, any chance i get. Sincerely. 10+ year customer here.

Cons: People who are allowed to post INCORRECT information in their reviews like " Bradley H. 5-21-2014 at 4:35 p.m. about " putting trash" on your ssd. (facepalm)

How do such reviews get approved by the newegg proof reading department? This baffles me.

Other Thoughts: Bradley H. Your tech knowledge of this product is OBVIOUSLY NOT " High" nor even " Somewhat high".

You obviously are just bragging out of almost thin air and have nothing better to do than to use newegg's review system to rant against people who have posted either their seemingly logical opinions or or facts of either them receiving faulty products or if they just never performed garbage collection to keep their ssd's running properly.

You think docs, pics, music, and videos are trash, yet have no problem putting GAMES on your ssd? Installing game into your ssd CAN put just as much if not MORE writes into it as at least half of the above combination of four types of content files depending on the combination and individual file size.

Singling out games as an exception to your idea of " trash" is as useless and incorrect as thinking drinking salt water right out of the ocean when you are dying of thirst is safe enough to save your life for the long haul vs delivering the salt water into your body rectally ( bear grillis from Man vs Wild mentioned this and I have confirmed this to be correct with more than 4 doctors amongst many fields of medicinal profession from 3 different hospital in the tri county area of my state).
Your UNhelpful comment about storing DATA ( which is the ENTIRE POINT of owning a more " permanent" coherent storage device like hard disk drives and ssds) is not beneficial to newegg shoppers and should be completely removed. It's asinine comments like this severely misinform pc tech noobs and later may cause them to chose the wrong things down the road simply because you CLAIMED you were smarter about this technology than you really are.

The reason why ssd's DIE within a year can be MANY variables including but not limited to:
1. filling up the drive to within 95% capacity and NEVER performing Garbage Collection, Diskcleanup, Cclean ( ing) from CCleaner, CONSTANTLY " restoring " a system image back to the drive daily which creates BIG writes to the drive itself, and/or any other things that causes the ssd to WRITE files ( hence constantly re installing HUGE things also). I know this FROM EXPERIENCE for the record years ago, yet I STILL don't claim " high " tech knowledge about ssd's. I only have the right to claim that high of know how about them IF i am directly involved with manufacturing the NAND flash that goes into them, or the controller, or some other MAJOR component that " DRIVES" the unit overall. ( Toshiba, for example CAN claim High tech knowledge).

This isn't 2009 where you had a 3 letter company's horrible dependability of drives to deal with with your " ssd's are meant for speed and not storage" statement.

Times have changed. Kingston is KNOWN for stability and I speak from 10+ years of customer experience with their ram and HAVE NEVER had a stick of ram die on me yet, ( even in my old single core claw hammer amd build with ddr400mhz 2GB total of ram is STILL running as good as year one).
